Introduction:
BRGHGMC Surgery Department and PSGS has a history of providing a wide variety of
life-saving surgeries with successful surgery missions conducted every year with the initiative of
the whole team. This year was no exemption, only we wished to reach out to those patients that
are immensely affected by the Pandemic. That is why the team decided to conduct its Surgery
Mission named “Operation: Minor Surgery” in cooperation with the Philippine Society of
General Surgeons Bicol Chapter. A commemorative activity for the 22nd Foundation Day
Anniversary of PSGS. The Surgery Mission was held at BRGHGMC Out Patient Department –
Minor OR last June 14, 2021, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A total of 13 patients for minor operations
were targeted for the event.
Objectives:
This activity aimed to conduct a one-day Surgery Mission to lessen the number of daily
OPD-Minor Surgery Procedures concerning the patients that are vastly affected by the Pandemic.
During the said program, we’re also aiming to promote our Institution and looking forward to
harmonious relations among the fellows of the PSGS Bicol Chapter and with their residents from
Bicol Medical Center. Hoping that this program will strengthen the fellowship and the
collaborations among the two institutions.
Activity Summary:
Last June 14, 2021, the Department of Surgery conducted a Surgery Mission named,
"Operation: Minor Surgery". Every year the team administers surgery missions through the
initiative of Dr. Moises Lowell E. Cacawa. The Surgery Mission is a commemorative activity
for the celebration of the 22nd Foundation Day Anniversary of the Philippine Society of General
Surgeons (PSGS). This activity is focused on Minor Cases seen in our OPD. During the said
program, we assure that the strict compliance of COVID-19 protocols was observed. The
consultants and candidates for minor surgery are required to issue negative results for their
antigen test/RT-PCR test. At exactly 8:00 AM we had received a total of 13 candidates for minor
surgery. We collected their names and personal data. Most of the patients had undergone
excision procedures. Fortunately, all the operations were successful. After the minor operations,

Fellows of the PSGS Bicol Chapter with their Residents from Bicol Medical Center roam around
the Hospital with Dr. Cacawa. This was for promoting the facilities, programs, and services
provided by our institutions both for the employees and for the patients.
In Fine, the Surgery Mission end up so well. We are sending our appreciation to the
whole team and also for the overwhelming support from our Chief of Hospital. For the full
cooperation of Surgery Consultants and Residents from our Institution, particularly Dr. Moises
Lowell E. Cacawa and Dr. Owen P. Lizaso, Fellows of PSGS Bicol Chapter, Dr. Roberto
Sarmiento with their Residents from Bicol Medical Center, Surgery Department Staff, and OPD
Staff without them, the Surgery Mission will not be taken place.
