Initialization of the ATSU Router
Handout Airbus A330 Air Traffic Information Management
General
Before the ATSU can be used for datalink communications, the ASTU requires to be initialized.
This means that maintenance needs to make sure that the ATSU is fully available for its
services after an ATSU replacement or software upgrade.
The ATSU is automatically initialized, provided a list of Service Providers has been scanned
and the following three parameters have been received and validated by maintenance:
- Aircraft Registration Number (ARN)
- Airline two-letter Identity Code (A/L ID for datalink service provides)
- Airline three-letter Identity Code (A/L ID for ATC)
If one of the four conditions is not fulfilled, the ATSU or datalink are not available.
As a result the following indications are displayed:
- on ECAM an ATSU FAULT warning message with ATSU INIT FAULT line procedure and
- the MCDU scratchpad displays a message to request crew action
Once these items above have been fulfilled correctly, the ECAM warning message will clear.
Note:
On any RMP – with VHF 3 selected, no ACARS is displayed when not initialized.
Note:
This information comes normally from the CMC and does require manual entry.
Note:
If the MCDU scratchpad “ENTER VHF3 SCAN SELECT” message does not come into view,
and the STAR “*” next to, “CONFIG ACTIVATE ” is not shown, the ATSU router has already
been initialized.
Close-up
After the initialization has been completed all ECAM warnings should go out of view and on the
ATSU VHF3 DATA MODE page the related frequency information comes into view on the top
of the page.
The RMP VHF3 indicates ACARS in the active window.
Example:
VHF3 is now tuned to 131.725 MHz
