Information Systems

This document describes the FlySmart with Airbus (FSA) system that can be found in the ATA 46 Information Systems chapter.
FSA is an Ethernet based information system which provides electronic information for two user groups in the cockpit of the Airbus A330
aircraft. These three groups are:
- Flight Ops
- Maintenance
- Administrator

FSA Flight Ops functions are:

- Utilities – Status Page, Virtual Keyboard and Calculator
- Performance – Landing Performance and In Flight Performance
- LPC Browser – FCOM, FCTM and MEL

FSA Maintenance functions are:

- Utilities – Touchscreen Calibration, Status Page, Virtual Keyboard and Calculator
- A/C Maintenance – access to LPC Browser from the Flight Ops menu
- Data-loading – DLCM (Data Loading Configuration Monitor), Dataloader
- Troubleshooting – BITE Monitoring, System Log, OIT Self Test, Wiring Validation

Administrator functions are:

- Utilities
- Dataloading
- Troubleshooting

FSA will be available on three A330-300 aircraft from their entry into service at KLM in March, 2012.

Information Systems

Aircraft Maintenance Manual chapter 46 provides information about the Information System that can be installed on the A330.
These systems are the:
- Aircraft Information Network System (AINS)
- Cockpit Information System (ATIMS)
- Maintenance Information System
- Cabins Information Network System (CINS)
- Internal Wireless Datalink
- Passenger Information Network

At KLM entry into service of FlySmart the Information System will be limited to the use of the Aircraft Information Network System. As a
consequence of this AINS is also referred to as the FlySmart (FSA) system.

Note:
The AMM contains CINS and Cabin System references that are not applicable to KLM aircraft.

The FSA system allows airlines to host applications which support operations in the cockpit and maintenance domains. The AINS is composed
of two sub-systems:
- the AINS Open World part
- the AINS Avionics World part

The Open World part consists of an integrated avionics file server which provides a host-platform for maintenance and operations applications,
and a link between the aircraft Ethernet Local Area Network (ELAN) and the airline ground-based information system.
The Avionics part, which contains the Server Interface Unit (SIU), is a secured interface to the existing aircraft avionics systems.

Note:
The Air Traffic Information Management System (ATIMS) is operative on the A330-200 and -300 fleet and has no connection with AINS nor do
these two systems share information. ATIMS will not be discussed in this document.

Software Architecture
The primary functions of the Open World system is based on Software Loadable applications for both Flight Crew - and Maintenance –
functions. In general terms this means that software applications are loaded on top of the core software of the:
- ANSU, for maintenance applications
- OIT PU, for flight crew applications

ANSU

The ANSU is a general-purpose network file server. It hosts information processing applications and saves data files that these or other
applications can use. The ANSU is also a network connection for communication through the Wireless Ground Data Link System, the Server
Interface Unit and 2 On-Board Information Terminals (OITs). The ANSU also supplies a centralized BITE function to transfer BITE data from all
Open World LRU’s to the avionics BITE.

TWLU

The Terminal Wireless LAN Unit (TWLU) is a dedicated Line Replaceable Unit which can operate as a Terminal Wireless LAN Unit for FSA. Its
primary function is to provide a microwave frequency link between ground based computers and computers on the aircraft. The TWLU is part of
the WGDLS.

TGCU

The Terminal GPRS/UMTS Unit provides a wireless GSM service. It is the interfacing component for the WGDLS with the ANSU. Software
hosted on the ANSU platform enables wireless communication between WGDLS and the airport infrastructure possible.

SIU

The SIU provides a secure interface between the open world and the avionics world. The SIU has the following functions:
- Provides data from the aircraft avionics to the AINS.
- Generation of AINS related BITE messages.

OIT Maintenance Console

The OIT Maintenance Console (OIT PU) allows re-imaging of the core software.

Access
Access to the OIT PU CSW is as follows:
- connect a USB keyboard to the onside OIT DU
- energize the aircraft electrical systems
- do a reset of the OIT using the Reset button on the front face of the OIT DU
- when the BIOS data is displayed push the ESC key to show the boot menu
- use the keyboard to select IDE 4 on the boot menu and press Enter
- the OIT Maintenance Console appears

From the OIT Maintenance Console:

- select “reinstall core software” using the DU pointing device
- enter confirmation code “OIT” and select “OK”

From here follow the instructions in the AMM.

Once the OIT PU has re-started the OIT DU displays a report.
When the OIT PU “core software reinstall” was successful press “OK”.

The Windows XP screen now appears and the following message is displayed:
- “A duplicate name exists on the network” on one DU
- “there is an IP address conflict with an other system in the network” on the other DU
- “do you want to restart your computer now” on the side the core software was reinstalled
- select “Yes”, the OIT PU restarts.

Note:
For an “OIT PU core software reinstallation” a USB keyboard must be installed before the OIT PU power-up. Without the keyboard
maintenance will not be able to select the 2nd partition for recovery of the OIT PU core software. During the procedure the use of the Esc and
Enter keys is required.
