Year 10 Chemistry Revision Sheet Questions
1. Draw and label an example of an atom showing all the sub-atomic particles in an atom.
4. Name group 1:
Name Group 2:
5. What does a group number in the periodic table indicate about the elements it contains?
6. What does a period number in the periodic table indicate about the elements it contains?
8. Where are the metals and non-metals located in the periodic table?
9. Explain how sodium and Calcium ions are formed. Use a diagram that show the electron shells to
support your explanation
11. Argon has 18 electrons. When in its ground state, its electron configuration is:
12. Phosphorus has the electron configuration 2, 8, 5. What period and group does phosphorus belong to?
Group:
Period:
17. List the five ways the speed of a chemical reaction can be controlled.
b. CH4 + O2 CO2 + H2 O
19. A particular atom has 13 protons, 13 electrons and 14 neutrons. State is name and symbol.
a) Based on the trendline, determine what would happen to the time for zinc metal to fully react if
the concentration of sulfuric acid was to increase?
c) How long does it take for the zinc metal to fully react if the concentration of sulfuric acid was
0.75molL?
22. Laura is experimenting with a new process of producing aspirin. She wants to optimise the process
so that the reaction takes the shortest amount of time possible to produce the aspirin.
To do this, Laura performs six different experiments to see how different factors affect the rate of
reaction. Using identical amounts of all the reactants, Laura times how long it takes for the reaction
to complete under different circumstances. Her results are summarised in the graph below.
Use the graph to list the methods for optimising the reaction time from most effective to least
effective. Circle the best answer.
A. add a catalyst; add more reactants; increase temperature; agitate continuously; crush solid
reactants
B. increase temperature, add a catalyst; add more reactants; crush solid reactants; agitate
continuously
C. add a catalyst; increase temperature; crush solid reactants; add more reactants; agitate
continuously
D. crush solid reactants; agitate continuously; increase temperature; add more reactants; add a
catalyst
23. Sarah decided to see the effect of temperature on the reaction of magnesium metal with
concentrated hydrochloric acid, which follows the chemical equation:
Mg (s) + 2HCl (aq) MgCl2 (aq) + H2 (g)
To do this, she timed how long it took for all the magnesium metal to stop producing gas at
different temperatures. She also ensured the size and shape of the magnesium metal was always
kept constant as well as the concentration and volume of hydrochloric acid. Her results are
summarised in the graph below:
Temperature (C)
From this graph, deduce which of the following conclusions is most accurate. Circle the best answer.
A. The time taken for the reaction to complete increases linearly as the temperature increases.
B. The time taken for the reaction to complete decreases linearly as the temperature increases.
C. Increasing the temperature initially reduces the reaction time a lot but only reduces the
reaction time a small amount as the temperature gets higher.
D. Increasing the temperature initially has little effect on the reaction time but rapidly reduces the
reaction time as the temperature gets higher.
