I. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

II. INFORMATION ABOUT THE COURSE

C OURSE DESCRIPTION
This course deals with the study of medically significant fungi and viruses. Emphasis is placed on the
morphology, classification, pathogenesis, and diagnostic laboratory methods.

L EARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, the students can:

2 Describe the morphologic, physiologic, and diagnostic characteristics of 1
each fungal and viral agent.

4 Specify and explain the laboratory tests involved in diagnosing fungal 1,2,5,7
and viral infections

C OURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Q UIZZES – Ten-item quizzes will be administered periodically. Quizzes may cover previous topics or assigned
topics for advanced reading.
2. U NIT E XAMS – A total of three unit exams will be administered throughout the semester covering
approximately one third of the total course coverage.

3. F INAL E XAM . There will be a comprehensive final exam covering materials from all class lectures and
discussions at the end of the term.
4. W RITE -UPS/REPORTS – Periodic reports or write-ups will be submitted by each student. The topics,
instructions, and deadlines will be posted later.

L EARNING ACTIVITIES
1. V IDEO LECTURES – Most of the topics will be delivered through pre-recorded video lectures.
2. V IRTUAL C HATROOM DISCUSSIONS – students can ask clarifications or contribute information for the class
through the class chatroom.
3. V IDEO C ONFERENCES – If necessary, video conferences will be employed for a more dynamic discussion of the
topics.

BEHAVIORAL E XPECTATIONS
1. P ARTICIPATION – Students are expected to participate in online class discussions and other interactive
activities that facilitate learning through the online learning platform.
2. H ONESTY – Students are not allowed to open their notes or books, search through the internet, or
communicate with other people in any way during exams and quizzes. Plagiarism is also prohibited when
submitting homework and write-ups.
3. O RDER AND RESPECT – Students are expected to conduct themselves with courtesy and respect. Profanity,
insults, lewd language, and other offensive conversations are not allowed.
