Subject: CURRENT LOOP TESTER

We would like to inform that Wayne has developed a device capable of testing the Current Loop
communication circuitry of Wayne’s CPU boards. The P/N of this tester is BA8984:

The device is capable of testing in an easy and fast way if the current loop circuitry of the Wayne
CPU boards is operating properly.

PROCEDURE

§ The dispensers must be assigned with POS addresses in the range between 1 and 31;
§ The device only tests the CPU Current Loop communication circuitry, it does not test the POS
control box that interfaces the dispensers and the PC or the infrastructure cabling;
§ We recommend that the tester should be connected to one CPU at a time, as it operates with a
09 VDC battery and connecting more than one CPU would consume more current;
§ We recommend that both CPU board and motor are turned off before initiating the tests
procedures;
§ Open the junction box;
§ Identify the communication cable and disconnect it from the POS cabling (that connects the
dispenser to the control box interface);

Note 1: We recommend that the cable from the control box should be jumped in order to not
interrupt the POS communication with the other dispensers
Note 2: Use extreme caution with the cabling shielding to avoid communication problems;

§ After the communication is properly insulated, turn on the circuitry breaker from to the CPU to be
tested;
§ Wait for approximately 10 seconds;
§ Connect the tester to the dispenser communication cable [red (+) and black (-)];

§ Press and keep pressed the button INICIA (START) on the tester to run the Current Loop
communication circuitry test;

RESULT:
? GREEN LED ON – COMMUNICA TION OK;
? RED LED ON – COMMUNICA TION NOK;

(this is an example of connection for a 3/G pump, but it is the same for other models)

§ Right after the INICIA (START) button is pressed the red LED will turn on and stay on until the
device reaches the dispenser address with the 1 to 31 range. If the address is not found the
communication circuitry is not operational or one of the failures below occurred:
ü Communication protocol jumper(s) is incorrectly positioned;
ü Communication cable defective (cable that goes from the junction box up to the CPU);
ü CPU not operational;
§ The red LED will be steady for 5 seconds then it will blink indicating the start of a new search.
This search is continuous.

Note 3: For the 3G models before initiating this process the function 1.00 must be configured
for 01 (Remote) and 5.00 and 6.00 must be configured with addresses from 01 to 31;
Note 4: If the connectors are misplaced (+ and –), the green LED will not turn on, indicating
no communication, this will cause no harm to the CPU or to the device . In this case, change
the position of the connectors and run the test again.
Note 5: Do not under any circumstances use this device to test the POS control box or the
infrastructure cabling.

Maureni Almeida
