Governor Appoints Commissioner of Labor and Industry

appointment of Sarah Swanson to
lead the Montana Department of
Labor and Industry (DLI).
“As a proven leader in both the
private and public sectors, Sarah
is a champion for reimagining
workforce development and
building sustainable public-
private partnerships to empower
hardworking Montanans,” Gov.
Gianforte said. “I look forward
to partnering with her to build a
stronger future for our state.”
Swanson assumes the role of
commissioner after serving as the
Director of Strategic Engagement
for DLI, where she focused on
bridging the gap between education
and workforce needs.
Prior to government service,
Swanson served as an owner
and General Manager for Farm
Equipment Sales, Inc. (FES), a
four-store John Deere dealer
organization headquartered in
northeast Montana. Sarah’s tenure
at the company saw record growth
with the addition of three locations,
over 100 new employees, and 1300
percent growth in company sales.

County Library is seeking a part-time permanent Library Associate who is

Smiles, smiles everywhere!

I’ve been to a lot of carnivals over the years spanning
more than five decades. Living a mile south of the
Canadian border, it was always a big deal to get down
to Glasgow, especially come Northeast Montana
Fair time. Weeding Mom’s garden all summer (and
it was a HUGE garden, pretty much a daily chore!)
was an incentive for my sister and I to make some
money to blow on the fair. So, about the carnival that
was up and running on Wednesday, it’s the cleanest
carnival I’ve ever witnessed, bar none. Sure, I miss
the Zipper, the bumper cars, bumper boats, (not the
Tilter Whirl, the corn dog could come up behind a
semi truck pretty quick), but there are some very cool
rides out there for young and old alike, as well as lots
and lots of games. And the “carnies” are all so friendly,
and yes, I did have one of those awesome carnival
corn dogs. It was delicious. Please get out there and
enjoy the Dreamland Carnival, it is impressive.

A woman accompanied her husband to the doctor’s

office. After his checkup, the doctor called the wife into his
office alone. He said, “Your husband is suffering from a
very severe stress disorder. If you don’t do the following,
your husband will surely die.”
“Each morning, fix him a healthy breakfast. Be
pleasant at all times. For lunch make him a nutritious meal.
For dinner prepare an especially nice meal for him. Don’t
burden him with chores. Don’t discuss your problems with
him, it will only make his stress worse. No nagging. And
most importantly, make love with your husband several
times a week. If you can do this for the next 10 months to a
year, I think your husband will regain his health completely.”
On the way home, the husband asked his wife. “What
did the doctor say?”
To which she replied, “He said you’re going to die,”

After overseeing the successful sale of FES,
Swanson helped design and lead Build Montana on
behalf of the Montana Contractors and Equipment
Dealers Associations, which helped open access to John
Deere’s proprietary training platform to Montana high
school students. Swanson then served as chief of staff
for the Montana Office of Public Instruction before
joining DLI.
“As a lifelong Montanan, I am honored to serve
the people of Montana and am humbled by the 31st.
confidence Governor Gianforte has placed in me. As a
former small business owner, I personally understand
the significance of meeting payroll, caring for
employee needs, helping rural communities survive,
and struggling to find qualified employees,” Swanson
said. “I look forward to working hand-in-hand with
DLI’s dedicated team, industry partners, and Montana
workers to continue to address the long-standing
disconnect between employers and education, to
modernize IT systems, and to deliver meaningful red-
tape relief to Main Street.”
A native of Valley County, Swanson assumes the
role of commissioner on Monday, August 14.
