SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN

MELC: To identify the steps in creating a straight-through cable.

Objective:

At the end of the lesson the student must able to:

a. Understand the procedure in creating a straight through internet cable.

b. Perform the procedure in creating a straight through internet cable.
c. Observe safety precautions in using tools and materials at all times.

Preliminary Activities:

 Opening Prayer

 Observe Cleanliness

 Checking of Attendance

Subject Matter:

Topic: Creating a Straight Through Internet cable

Melc Code: EN2G-IVg-i-7.3

Materials: Laptop, TV Monitor.

Review:
Review the different types of cables used in networking (e.g., straight-through, crossover, rollover).
Review the purpose of each type of cable and when to use them.

Motivation:

Show students a short video demonstrating the importance of proper cable connections in networking.
Discuss the significance of straight-through cables in establishing connections between devices.

Activity:

Provide students with the necessary materials such as Ethernet cable, RJ-45 connectors, wire
cutter/stripper, and crimping tool.
Demonstrate the step-by-step process of creating a straight-through cable, highlighting each stage
clearly.
Step 1: Strip the outer sheath of the Ethernet cable.
Step 2: Untwist the pairs of wires and arrange them according to the T568A or T568B standard.
Step 3: Trim the excess wires to ensure they are all of equal length.
Step 4: Insert the wires into the RJ-45 connector, making sure they are in the correct order.
Step 5: Use the crimping tool to secure the wires in the connector.

Allow students to practice creating their own straight-through cables under supervision.

Analysis:

Engage students in a discussion about the importance of following the correct wiring standards for
straight-through cables.
Ask students to identify any potential errors or issues that may arise during the cable creation process.

Abstraction:

Discuss the significance of proper cable connections in establishing reliable network connections.
Explain the role of straight-through cables in connecting devices such as computers to switches or
routers.

Application:

Present a real-life scenario where students need to create a straight-through cable to establish a
network connection between two devices.
Provide them with the necessary information about the devices and their network requirements.
Ask students to create the cable and test the connection to ensure it is working properly.

Assessment:

1. Which type of cable is commonly used to connect a computer to a switch?

A) Straight-through cable B) Crossover cable C) Rollover cable D) None of the above.
2. What is the purpose of a straight-through cable?
A) To connect two computers directly B) To connect a computer to a switch or router C) To
connect two switches or routers directly D) None of the above
3. How many pairs of wires are typically used in a straight-through cable?
A) 2 B) 3 C) 4 D) 8
4. Which wiring standard is commonly used for straight-through cables?
A) T568A B) T568B C) Both A and B are correct D) Neither A nor B
5. What tool is used to secure the wires in the RJ-45 connector? A) Wire cutter B) Wire stripper C)
Crimping tool D) Pliers

Answers;

A) Straight-through cable
B) To connect a computer to a switch or router
C) 4
C) Both A and B are correct
C) Crimping tool
Interactive Activities:

Cable Creation Race:

Divide the class into small groups.
Provide each group with the necessary materials to create a straight-through cable.
Set a timer and challenge the groups to complete the cable creation process accurately and quickly.
The group that finishes first with the correctly created cable wins the race.

Assignment:

Ask students to research and create a short presentation on the different types of network cables and
their uses.
Encourage them to include visuals and examples to support their explanations.
