LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 6 NTH Term Demo 1
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the Grade 6 pupils are expected to do the following tasks
with 75% level of accuracy:
a. Formulate the rule in finding the nth term
b. Write the next term in a given sequence.
c. State the importance of showing care and love each members of the family.
II. Content and Materials
a. Subject Matter: Formulating the Rule in Finding the Nth Term
b. Reference: Mathematics 6 , Quarter 3 –Module 2, Week 2
c. Instructional Materials: laptop and LCD projector
II. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activity
a. Drill
Games on naming the missing term
b. Motivation/unlocking of difficulty
The teacher will ask to his pupils.
What comes to your mind when you hear the word “SEQUENCE”?
Here’s a chart with the word “sequence” on the center, what you need to do is to say any word
or phrase that you know about it or related to it.
Note: The teacher will relate the activity to the topic which is formulating the rule in finding the nth of a
sequence using the different strategies (looking for a pattern, guessing and checking, working backwards)
B. Lesson Proper
a. Problem Opener
Erica saves money daily to buy a her mother birthday gift. She started to saving P 3.00 on Mach
1, P 6.00 on march 2 and P 9.00 on March 3. How much money will she be able to save until March 15
with this pattern of saving?
C. Discussion/Analysis
1. What is ask in the problem?
2. What are the given facts?
3. Find the missing term in the sequence through:
a. Looking a pattern
b. Working Backwards
c. Guess and Check
1) Sequence: 3,6,9,12
Pattern: Addition of 3 after the other term
(0+3, 3+3, 6+3, 9+3,…)
Nth Rule: nx3
2) Sequence: 5,8,11,14…
Pattern: There is a gap of 3 between terms; left term +3 or right term -3
( 2+3, 5+3, 8+3, 11+3…)
Nth Rule: (nX3)+2
D. Fixing Skills
Group Practice
1) Sequence: 2,5,8,11,…
Pattern: Multiplication of 3 by the counting number, then subtraction by 1
(3x1-1, 3x2-1,3x3-1,3x4-1,…)
Nth rule: 3n-1
2) Sequence: 1,4,9,16
Pattern: Multiplication of counting numbers by itself
(1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4,…)
Nth Rule: (n x n) or n2
E. Generalization
How can we easily find the missing tern in the sequence or series?
F. Application
The class will have a group game called “NAME THE BABY” and each group will consist of five (5)
members.
Mechanics:
IV. Evaluation
Formulate your nth term rule to solve the nth term
__________1) 4, 8,12 = 7th term
__________ 2) 2, 5,8 = 5th term
__________ 3) 15, 20 ,25 = 10th term
__________ 4) 6, 8, 10 = 15th term
__________ 5) 21, 23, 26 = 8th term
V. Assignment
Supply the next three terms in the following patterns. Formulate your own nth term rule in order to find the
answer.
1. 5, 3, 1,-1,…
2. 7, 13, 19, 25,…
3. ¼, 2/4, ¾, 4/4,…
4. 10, 20, 30, 40,…
5. 2,8,16,32,…
