Essay 2 Reflection

In my previous writing assignment, The Personal Experiment and Reseach Essay, I

learned how to incorporate my cited articles onto my essay to provide support to my thesis

statement. In Essay 1, I had to cite my articles within the text and learned how and when to use

my explanations to support my claims. In my English 1301, I learned how to write an annotated

bibliography; therefore, it helped me find the write sources to research on my topic. Practicing to

write annotated bibliographies in 1301 helped me create a successful annotated bibliography in

this second essay. For instance, after finishing Essay 1 in this 1302 course, I learned that my

claims weren’t being thoroughly explained and provide support. So, I implemented writing

examples, detailed explanations, and support from articles to back up my claims in this second

essay.

Though, there were quite a few things I learned in my English 1301 course that I did not

apply to Essay 2. For instance, in 1301 I learned how to analyze visual elements of a text which

was not applicable to this Essay 2. In my 1301 course I learned how to uncover and reveal the

visual elements that writers use and discover why they had to use that specific color, or size of

text, etc. In my Essay 1 in 1302 course I learned how to create a research question and develop

an experiment to answer that question. However, I did not apply this knowledge onto my Essay 2

because in this essay I had to communicate the various arguments on my specific topic. I did not

implement a research question, as in Essay 1, however I presented different perspectives on a

specific topic.

Based on what I learned from writing a Research Analysis Essay with Annotated

Bibliography, I can apply my new knowledge to other reading, writing or speech courses. For

instance, I learned how to thoroughly write a annotated bibliography in this essay and I can apply

this future writing courses that require any research. I can apply this knowledge to WIN courses

or even when doing a research paper in a science course. When doing researches on a science

topic in a science course, I will applying my new knowledge from this essay to help me create

successful science research papers. For example, in a science course I will have to research on

the topic of either if trees being cut down is beneficial or not. Therefore, I will apply my

knowledge of learning how to synethize various arguments from this Essay 2 onto that science

research paper.

Nonetheless, other courses that will not be applicable to what I learned in this Research

Analysis Essay are courses like art and math. In an art course, you have to discover the meaning

behind a visual art image. Therefore, my knowledge in this Research Analysis essay can not be

applied to art courses. Another course that will not be applicable is a math course because in this

course you will have to create solutions and problem solve various equations. Thus, this Essay 2

is not applicable to a math course.

The creation of an annotated bibliography and research analysis essay has helped

improve my writing in various ways. For instance, I have gained knowledge in how to

understand multiple perspectives on an area of a topic and discuss the various arguments.

Therefore, it has helped me approach future writing tasks with an open mind to research every

article and describe how I will be using that article to articulate it into my essay. Finding articles

that have different agreements and different perspectives has helped me create a successful

annotated bibliography which I will take in my future writing tasks. Writing a research analysis

essay has helped improve my writing, in general, by learning how to reveal agreements,

disagreements and connections.

Based on the comments I have received from my peers’, I can say that my writing

strengths are creating a successful thesis statement in the introduction and conclusion paragraph.

My peers’ were able to easily find my thesis statement and able to see the restated thesis

statement in the conclusion paragraph. This writing strength is the same that I had in the first

essay. My writing weakness, based on my peers’ comments, is providing evidence and support in

my body paragraphs. I tend to lack in providing detailed explanations to backup claims. This

writing weakness is the same that I had in essay 1. Nothing new or different, my writing

weaknesses and strengths have stayed the same.

Thus, from the comments I received from the professor on my first essay will be the same

for essay 2, in my opinion. For instance, the comments made in essay 1 by my professor were

that I needed to include more details and explanations. I believe in this essay 2 I have

implemented more explanations; however, the evidence may be lacked in different aspects

throughout this essay. One thing that may be different is discussing why my topic is important

which I implemented in Essay 2. However, in essay 1 I did not.

The most challenging aspect of this essay was trying to not be more in one position but

rather discuss the various perspectives with the different articles I have annotated. It was

challenging to not be in one position because I wanted to argue on one position instead of write

about the various perspectives. The least challeneging aspect of this essay was finding a topic. I

have always been an advocate for animals; therefore, choosing a topic to discuss was least

challenging.
