CAN 147:443835 AN 2007:645768 CAPLUS (Copyright (C) 2011 ACS on SciFinder (R)) Abstract The ethanolic ext. of the bulbs of Pancratium tortuosum Herb, growing in Egypt yielded five alkaloids. Three alkaloids belonged to pyrrolo{de}phenanthridine nucleus, viz (-)ungiminorine (I), (-)ungiminorine N-oxide (II) and (-)lycorine (V). The other two alkaloids, (+)maritidine (III) and (+)11-hydroxyvittatine (IV) had (+)crinane skeleton. The structures of isolated alkaloids were identified on the basis of phys., chem. and spectral data.

CAN 61:78027 AN 1964:478027 CAPLUS (Copyright (C) 2011 ACS on SciFinder (R)) Abstract The carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and alkaloids from different parts of P. arabicum, P. maritimum, P. sickenbergeri, and P. tortuosum were detd. Glucose, fructose, sucrose, melibiose, raffinose, stachyose, and probably manninotriose and verbascose were found; the mucilage (highest in bulbs) was -D-glucan type. The oily fraction was richest in bulbs and foliage leaves; bulbs of P. sickenbergeri had the most, 1.22% lipids. Palmitic, stearic, arachidic, behenic, oleic, linoleic, linolenic, and conjugated diene acids were detected. The unsaponifiable fraction contained ceryl alc., 1,21-heneicosanediol, and -sitosterol. Hydrolysis of the proteins and then paper chromatography indicated the presence of cystine, lysine, histidine, arginine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, serine, glycine, threonine, tyrosine, proline, valine, alanine, phenylalanine, leucine, isoleucine, methionine, and tryptophan. In detg. alkaloids, a solvent fractionation scheme and paper and column chromatography techniques were used. The following occurred in all 4 species: lycorine (I), tazettine, galanthamine, sickenbergine, hemanthidine, and an unidentified base. All species except P. tortuosum showed pancreatin and homolycorine; P. arabicum and P. maritimum contained lycorenine; demethylhomolycorine was found only in P. maritimum; and vittatine only in P. tortuosum. I was the chief alkaloid in all 4 species. Green leaves generally were richest in alkaloids, followed by stems, bulbs, and scale leaves. H2O, ash, total N, and various extractives are also given for each species. 50 references.
