Part I About Program

The Joint Program on Electronic and Information Engineering between Hubei Polytechnic University
（HBPU) and Northern Kentucky University(NKU) started in 2021.

Part II Living in HBPU

Brief Introduction of HBPU

Located in Huangshi, Hubei, a cradle of modern Chinese national industry, Hubei Polytechnic
University(HBPU) is a tertiary education institution that focuses on engineering and cultivating
application-oriented talents. Facing Cihu Lake, with Mount Qinglong at the back, HBPU enjoys a
beautiful environment and picturesque scenery, and is known as the most beautiful campus, with a
total land area of 1.46 million square meters and a floor space of 665 thousand square meters.

This canteen consists of different small shops, offering a variety of food choices like hot food, salad bar, self-selected food etc.

Malatang--you can choose from an array of ingredients, such as
skewered meats, seafood, vegetables, tofu, and noodles, which
are cooked in a simmering broth with an assortment of spices
and seasonings.

Braised Chicken--It is a popular dish that involves cooking
chicken in a flavorful, aromatic sauce over a low flame until the
chicken becomes tender and the sauce has thickened.

YiCheng Canteen
This is the biggest canteen in HBPU which is located in Yicheng Apartment. You can find fruit store and various local cuisines here.

Huangshi City Intro

Huangshi is located in the southeastern region of Hubei province, to the south of the middle reaches of
the Yangtze River. As a deputy central city of the Wuhan city circle, Huangshi serves as an important
industrial base for raw materials in central China, earning it titles such as "hometown of bronze," "cradle
of steel," "cement hometown," and "clothing new town."In addition to its industrial heritage, Huangshi is
also home to several scenic attractions Overall, Huangshi is a vibrant and historic city that offers you a
unique blend of industry, culture, and natural beauty.

Mooer City
This is our go-to spot, where young people frequent the most.
It's not a sprawling shopping mall, but rather a bustling
pedestrian street. You can find all sorts of culinary delights and
recreational activities here, such as cinemas, KTV bars, escape
rooms, barber shops, and even a Wal-Mart supermarket. This
gem is known as Zhongshang Plaza, nestled in the heart of
Moore City.

Tourist Attractions

1. Cihu Lake
It is a beautiful urban lake located in the downtown area of
Huangshi City. According to legend, the lake was named after the
abundance of magnetic stones found in its waters during ancient
times.

2. The Huangshi National Mining Park

The Huangshi National Mining Park is located in Tieshan District,
Huangshi City. It is a national AAAA-level scenic spot, the first
national mining park in China. The park has the largest open-pit
mine in Asia, with a length of 2,200 meters from east to west, a
maximum width of 900 meters from north to south, and a
maximum drop of 444 meters.

3. Xiandao Lake
Xiandao Lake Scenic Area is located in Wangying Town, western
Yangxin County. With its superior location and convenient
transportation, the scenic area covers an area of 276 square
kilometers. The lake has 1,002 islands scattered throughout its
4.6 thousand hectares of water, resembling a constellation of
stars. It is not only beautiful but also feels like a fairyland，and
there are many cultural relics and historic sites to explore. The
ecological environment is also rich, making it a high-quality
holiday destination.

4. Dongfang Mountain
The Dongfang Mountain Scenic Area, known as the "Number One
Mountain in the Three Chu Regions," is located in Xialu District,
Huangshi City. It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a
provincial-level scenic spot, and a provincial-level forest park.
The Buddhist culture of Dongfang Mountain has a long history
and profound cultural heritage. There is a thousand-year-old
temple called Honghua Temple on the mountain, which was built
during the reign of Emperor Xianzong of Tang Dynasty. On the
Lansheng Ridge of Dongfang Mountain, there is a 108-meter tall
Liuli Pagoda named "Dongchang Pavilion", which symbolizes the
prosperity of the east. Climbing the pagoda, visitors can have a
panoramic view of the Yangtze River and Huangshi City.

5. Fenglin·Dixin Canyon
It is a beautiful urban lake located in the downtown area of
Huangshi City. According to legend, the lake was named after the

6. Xisai Mountain
Xisai Mountain is surrounded by the river on three sides. It is
known as the gateway to the middle and lower reaches of the
Yangtze River and is one of the three famous mountains in
ancient Fan Chu.

Local Specialties

1. Huangshi Potato Chips

A bowl of authentic fried potato chips often has many
requirements, from the heat to the sauce. The potatoes are cut
into evenly thin slices and deep-fried until golden brown. Then, a
sauce made from chili powder, cumin powder, starch, and other
seasonings is mixed and poured over the potato chips. The sauce
is the soul of the potato chips. After mixing the sauce, the potato
chips have a delicious and spicy taste that cannot be missed.

2. Huangshi Gangbing
It is made from over ten high-quality ingredients, including flour,
sesame, rock sugar, sesame oil, kumquat cake, sugar osmanthus,
and more. It has a unique flavor with a strong natural sesame
aroma, and is known for its crispy texture, sweet fragrance, and
refreshing taste that stimulates the appetite.

3. Huangshi Tangbao
These are steamed buns filled with meat or vegetables, and
served with a flavorful broth.

4. Taizi Tofu
Taizi Tofu is a famous snack produced in Taizi Town, Yangxin
County, Huangshi City. It was once a tribute to the imperial court
in ancient times and is known as the "unique delicacy of Jingchu".
It perfectly combines the advantages of old and tender tofu,
which allows the tofu to be boiled for a long time without falling
apart and fried without becoming mushy, resulting in a fresh,
tender, and delicious taste.

5. Yinzi Ba
Yinzi Ba is a non-heritage food in Huangshi. Each Yinzi Ba has
vivid patterns on it, such as chickens, ducks, birds, flowers,
insects, and fish. After steaming, the Yinzi Ba looks crystal clear,
with a beautiful shape and delicious taste.

6. Sweet Potato Meat

This dish mainly uses potato starch to create the taste of meat. It
has a chewy and glutinous texture, with the fullness of meat but
without the greasiness. It looks like rice cakes, but it is more
delicate than rice cakes and has a soft and sweet flavor.

7. Songhua Preserved Egg

Songhua Preserved egg is one of the eight treasures of
Huangshi, and highly cherished by the locals. It has a fresh and
smooth texture with a refreshing taste, and is a food with unique
charm in terms of color, fragrance, and taste.

Other Reminders

Tap water can only be consumed after boiled in China.

Be prepared for crowds: China has a large population, so be prepared for crowded attractions, public
transportation, and streets.

Tipping is not customary in China; attempting to tip someone may cause confusion or offense.

Knowing Mandarin is not a necessity but it helps A LOT.
