of intensity E. calculate the kinetic energy it attains after moving a distances between
the plates?

2. Two point charges +q and +9q are separated by a distance of 10 a. Find the point on the
line joining the two changes where electric field is zero?
3. Define the term dipole moment of an electric dipole indicating its direction. Write its
S.I unit. An electric dipole is placed in a uniform electric field . Deduce the expression for
the Torque acting on it.
4. A spherical conducting shell of inner radius R1 and outer radius R2 has a charges Q.
A charge q is placed at the centre of the shell.
(a) What is the surface charge density on the (1) Inner surface, (2) Outer surface of
the shell?
(b) Write the expression for the electric field at a point X >R2 from the centre of the
shell.

5. Derive an expression for the electric field and potential at any point along the axial line of
an electric dipole.
6. Two small identical electrical dipoles AB and CD, each of dipole moment ‘p’ are kept
at an angle of 120º as shown in the figure. What is the resultant dipole moment of this
combination? If this system is subjected to electric field directed along + X
direction, what will be the magnitude and direction of the torque acting on this?
7. Define electric flux. Write its SI unit.
A charge q is enclosed by a spherical surface of radius R. If the radius is
reduced to half, how would the electric flux through the surface changes?
OR

State and prove Gauss’ law in electrostatics. Using this law derive an expression
for the electric field due to a uniformly charged infinite plane sheet.

8. Using Gauss’s law, derive an expression for electric field intensity at any points
outside a uniformly charged thin spherical shell of radius r and the density d C/m2.
(a)Draw the field lines when the charge density of the sphere is (i) positive and (ii)
negative.
(b) A uniformly charged conducting sphere of diameter 2.5 m has a surface charge
density of 100 uC/m2. Calculate the (i) charge on the sphere and (ii) Total electric flux
through the sphere.
9. Explain the concept of polar and non-polar materials and also define polarasibility.
10. A small sphere of radius a carrying a positive charge q, is placed concentrically inside
a larger hollow conducting shell of radius b (b> a). This outer shell has charge Q on it .
Show that if these spheres are connected by a conducting fire, charge will always flow
from the inner sphere to the outer sphere, irrespective of the magnitude of the two charges.
11. Write two characteristics of equipotential surfaces. Draw the equipotential surfaces
due to an electric dipole. Also draw equipotential surface due to a single point charge
12. Derive the expression for capacitance of parallel plate capacitor. Define the dielectric
constant of a medium. Briefly explain the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor
increases, on introducing dielectric medium between the plates.
13. Three identical capacitors C1,C2 and C3 of capacitances 6uF each are connected
to 12 V battery as shows.

(a)Charge on each capacitor.

(b)Equivalent capacitance of the network.
(c)Energy stored in the network of capacitors

14. Find the charge on the capacitor shown in the figure.

15.Deduce the expression for the energy stored in a charged capacitor. And hence
deduce the expression for energy density.

16. Define terms with its unit and dimensions- 1. Electric current 2. Current density
3. Spacific conductivity 4. Spacific resistance

17. State and prove ohms law by using drift velocity. And also plot the graph to show the
variation in between voltage and current.

18. Explain the concept carbon coding resistors.

19. Derive the relation-

(a) In between electric current and drift velocity
(b)In between current density and specific conductivity.

20. Using the Kirchhoff’s Law in the given circuit, evaluate the values of current I1 ,
I2 and I3 .

21. Using Kirchhoff’s Law deduce the condition for balance of Wheatstone Bridge
circuit.

22. A potential difference of 2 V is applied between the points A and B shown in the
fig. Calculate-
(I) Equivalent resistance of the network across the points A and B, and
(ii) The magnitudes of currents flowing in the arms AFCEB and AFDEB.
22. Why is a potentiometer preferred over a voltmeter to measure EMF of a cell? The
potentiometer wire AB shown in the figure is 400 cm long.12 Ω Where should the free
end of the galvanometer be connected so that deflection in the galvanometer is zero?

23. Explain with help of a circuit diagram, the use of potentiometer for determination
of internal resistance of a primary cell. Derive the necessary mathematical
expression.

24. What is meant by the sensitivity of a potentiometer. A battery E1 of 4V and a

variable resistance Rh are connected in series with the wire AB of the potentiometer.
The length of the potentiometer wire is 1 meter. When a cell E2 of emf 1.5V is
connected between points A and C,no current flows through E2. Length AC = 60 cm.
(I) Find the potential difference between the ends A and B of the potentiometer.
