BUILDING INSULATION
PART 1 - GENERAL
Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
A. Furnish all labor, materials, tools and equipment and perform all services and
operations necessary for the complete supply and installation of the thermal insulation
as shown on drawings but not limited to:
1. Roofs
2. Under side of slabs
3. Below grade slabs
B. Related Sections: Related work to be coordinated and used in conjunction with this
specification includes but is not restricted to:
1. Section 03 4100 - Precast Structural Concrete.
2. Section 07 3216.13 - Roof Pavers.
3. Section 07 5200 - Modified Bituminous Membrane Roofing.

1.03 PERFORMANCE
B. Comply with the fire resistance, flammability and insurance rating as per the code and
Authorities requirements
1.04 DEFINITIONS
1.05 SUBMITTALS:
C. Samples: 300 mm square samples of all kinds of insulation and all fixing accessories.
E. Provide evidence that the extruded polystyrene insulation has zero Ozone Depleting
Potential (ODP), is CFC and HCFC free, and has a Global Warming Potential (GWP)
of less than five.
C. Comply with all requirements of the project and the Local Authorities.
A. Protect insulation materials from physical damage and from deterioration by moisture,
soiling, and other sources. Store inside and in a dry location. Comply with
manufacturer's written instructions for handling, storing, and protecting during
installation.
1.08 WARRANTY
B. Warranty shall also state that insulation’s actual thermal resistance will not vary by
more than 10% from the designed R-Value for a period of fifteen (15) years.
C. Submit documented proof that the material has a proven record of successful
performance for more than 10 years, confirmed by at least five local projects.
D. Comply with all requirements of the project and the local Authorities.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
A. The insulation shall be a non-absorbent, foam extruded, closed cell polystyrene board
specifically manufactured for use in roofing insulation. Comply with ASTM C578 (type
VII) and shall meet all requirements of authorities having jurisdiction.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Ensure that surfaces to receive insulation are clean, dry, and suitable to provide a
complete and satisfactory installation.
3.02 PREPARATION
D. For preformed insulating units, provide sizes to fit applications indicated and selected
from manufacturer's standard thicknesses, widths, and lengths. Apply single layer of
insulation units to produce thickness indicated unless multiple layers are otherwise
shown or required to make up total thickness.
E. Install rigid insulating units with joints close and flush, in regular courses and with cross
joints broken.
