1 Purpose:
To clearly define the operational procedures for the insulated busway (hereinafter
referred to as BUSWAY) to ensure that the work quality of the BUSWAY conforms
to the requirements of the employer.
2 Scope:
This procedure covers all installation and testing processes of the BUSWAY after
it is produced and delivered.

3-2 Support installation standard operational procedures:


1 Materials to be prepared:
1.1 M12 or∮1/2” (4/8”) threaded rods, washers, nuts.
1.2 M12or∮1/2” (4/8”) expansion bolts.
1.3 L-shape angle iron (6Tx50x50) support frame, can also use universal pass (hole
diameter∮13×22L), or C-shape steel (2Tx41x41).
1.4 Additional side enclosing on both sides of C-shape steel, as requested by
customer.
2 Tools to be prepared:
2.1 Electric drill and drilling bit for drilling wall only, a powder shotgun is prohibited.
2.2 Locking tool.
2.3 Manual (electric) crane (depending on the BUSWAY weight, and any obstacle on
the worksite).
3 Operational procedures:
3.1 Verify the BUSWAY working layout.
3.2 Verify the height of two connecting junction units and select one base junction
unit as the working standard.
3.3 Two sides of the BUSWAY junction unit should be fixed with supports.
3.4 The BUSWAY support application guidelines (see Item No. 4).
3.5 When lifting the BUSWAY onto the supports, care should be taken not to
damage or deform the exposed part of the copper (aluminum) busway.
3.5.1 If the BUSWAY is too heavy, use an electric forklift or a manual crane to
assist in placing it onto the supports.
3.6 If the workspace is sufficient, when two or more BUSWAYs are to be placed in
parallel, each one shall use a separate support to facilitate horizontal adjustment.
4 If the BUSWAY is of an irregular shape, install it by placing the position of the gravity
center on the support.
5 If the number of supports needs to increase for enforcement, add as requested by
customer.
6 When working on the supports, be sure to follow the requirements of this procedure to
facilitate horizontal adjustment.

7 One set of the BUSWAY supports is installed per 1.5m. The BUSWAY support fixing
position is shown below:

1. The gap for the support is according to the above standard. If the site condition does not allow to work as required, then work in accordance with the
site condition, but the gap still has to comply with the requirement of P.18 Product Installation Description: Minimum gap requirement for the busway.
2. The standard installation space for the busway is shown in the illustration. The net standard installation space of safety space 100mm + die-casting
space 270mm + 370mm have to be added above the busway. The net height between the ground and the floor has to be 5m or less so that the parts
such as expansion bolt, fully threaded rod and C-shape steel can be installed on the bottom of the floor. Others are beyond our working scope.
3. The installation distance for the support and the C-shape steel should be the “x” size of the busway plus the size as shown in the illustration, as a
standard distance.
4. One busway should use a set of L-shape tabs (two pieces)

3-3 BUSWAY connector assembly and allowable margin at the end of


copper busway:
1 When locking the BUSWAY connector, please check the following:
1.1 Be sure the BUSWAY is in its horizontal or vertical position. (When
measuring levelness and verticality of the insulated busway at the slope
section, use both two fixing ends, and then draw a waterline as a reference
for adjustment.)
1.2 Be sure the gap at the end of the copper busway is within the allowable
margin.
2 The allowable margin at the top of the copper (aluminum ) busway is shown below:

3-4 Horizontal and vertical measurement, copper busway contact polishing


and bolt torquing procedures:
1 Tools to be prepared:
1.1 Ruler, rubber hammer, bolt locking tool, horizontal and vertical measuring
tool, torque wrench.
1.2 Nylon scouring pad.
2 Operational procedures:
2.1 Use the base junction unit selected during installing the supports as the
starting point for measuring levelness and verticality.
2.2 When conducting the horizontal and vertical adjustment, be sure to attend to
all directions.
2.3 When locking two BUSWAYs, use care to:
2.3.1 Check the levelness of the two BUSWAYs.
2.3.2 Check the verticality of the two BUSWAYs.
2.3.3 Check that the join of the copper (aluminum) busway contact and the
slicing tab are complete.
2.3.4 Check that the contact at the ends of two copper (aluminum)
BUSWAYs is within the allowable margin (see 3-3-2).
2.4 When conducting the contact resistance test, if the results fail to achieve the
standard values, follow the procedures in 2.3, and then repeat the test until
the results can achieve at the standard values.
2.5 After connecting the splicing tabs and before grouting, wrap them with a
piece of plastic film to protect the copper (aluminum) busway from oxidizing
and also keep them clean.
2.6 The locking direction of the bolt shall be consistently in one direction.
2.7 Lock the bolts with the torque values as listed in Table 1&2:

3-5 Phase testing procedures:


1 Tools to be prepared:
1.1 Multimeter or buzzer.
1.2 Lead wire for connecting the copper (aluminum) busway phases.
2 Operational procedures:
2.1 Make sure that the copper (aluminum) busway connected to the BUSWAY
junction unit and the copper (aluminum) busway connected to two junction
units are not locked.
2.2 Conduct the phase test in accordance with the RST sequence, and prepare
the test report (3-5-1).
2.3 If the phase test result is not compliant, check out the causes and inspect as
follows:
2.3.1 Verify the BUSWAY layout.
2.3.2 Verify the junction unit layout.
2.4 If the phase test result is not conforming to the standard, do not work die-
casting.
3 The phase test result must conform to 3-5-1 (Table 2).

3-6 Insulation resistance testing procedures:


1 Tools to be prepared:
1.1 Mega Ohm meter.
2 Operational procedures:
2.1 Make sure that the connections of the BUSWAY junction unit with the distribution
panel, transformer or generator, etc. are not locked.
2.2 Make sure the testing points are clean and dried.
2.3 BUSWAY specification: Testing voltage for the insulation resistance less than
1000V is 1KV.
2.4 Conduct the phase test in accordance with each phase sequence.
2.5 Register the results in the insulation resistance test report (3-6-1).
3 Notices:
3.1 First ensure that the Mega Ohm meter has been calibrated.
3.2 Before testing, thoroughly understand the operating instructions of the Mega
Ohm meter.
3.3 During the test, protect any exposed connector from being touched to avoid an
electric shock. After the test is finished, perform discharging to avoid electrification.
3.4 If the results are not compliant, check out the causes and inspect as follows:
3.4.1 Inspect the exterior: Make sure no tool or any foreign object is in contact.
3.4.2 Remove all connectors and test in sequence until the results conform to
the standard. Then, reassemble all connectors.
3.5 If the insulation resistance test result is not conforming to the standard, do not
work die-casting.
3.6 After die-casting of the connectors is completed and is completely dried after 24
hours, conduct the insulation test again to ensure the insulation quality.
3.7 If die-casting of the BUSWAY connectors has to be peformed separately for
whatever reasons, when the last set is finished and is completely dried after 24
hours, conduct the insulation test again to ensure the insulation quality.

3-7 Contact resistance testing procedures:


1 Tools to be prepared:
1.1 Milliohm meter.
1.2 Extension cord.
2 Operational procedures:
2.1 Secure the tester at the testing point in accordance with the operating
instructions of the Milliohm meter.
2.2 Set the testing amperage at 100A.
2.3 Before each measurement, first measure the inner resistance of the testing wire.
2.4 The measured value of the BUSWAY contact point deducted by the inner
resistance of the testing wire is the correct contact resistance. Record this
value on the contact resistance test report (3-7-1).
3 Notices:
3.1 First make sure that the Milliohm meter has been calibrated.
3.2 Before testing, thoroughly understand the operating instructions of the
Milliohm meter to protect it from being burnt down.
3.3 During the test, protect other untested connectors from being touched to
avoid an electric shock.
3.4 If the test results are not conforming to the standard, follow the “Horizontal
and vertical measurement operational procedures”, then, conduct the contact
resistance test again until the results achieve the standard values.
3.5 If the contact resistance test result is not conforming to the standard, do not
work die-casting.

3-8 Grouting die installing and removing procedures:


1 Materials to be prepared:

3 Operational procedures:
3.1 Grouting die installing procedures
3.1.1 Verify the types of the grouting dies (horizontal, vertical, angle fitting)
used by the BUSWAY.
3.1.2 Use a brush dipped with liquid wax to evenly wipe the ST27 iron
grouting die and the rubber packing and wait for drying (keep the
rubber packing and the grouting die in close contact).
3.1.3 To secure the grouting die to the BUSWAY, first remove the protective
band at the end of the BUSWAY and keep it clean.
3.1.4 If the surface at the end of the BUSWAY where grouting is made is
not flat, you can polish the surface using #80 sandpaper.
3.1.5 The grouting die must be installed on two BUSWAYs with each side of
more than 30cm and without deviating one side.
3.1.6 The bolts (M6) must be tightened so that materials will not leak from
the gap when grouting. During grouting, use a rubber hammer to hit
the grouting dies so that the connectors can be fully filled.
3.2 For the number of grouting dies to be installed, calculate it per the capacity of
each raw material of grouting and refer to the material breakdown table for
each grouting die for the BUSWAY.
3.3 ST27iron grouting die removing procedures:
3.3.1 To remove the grouting die, remove only the bolts on the die.
3.3.2 To release the die, hit the grouting die using the rubber hammer and
polish the burrs (using a portable grinder) until they will not cut the
skin, as smooth as the component.

3.3.3 Clear off residues attached on the grouting dies and rubber packings
when they are removed.
3.4 Options of time for removing the dies:
※ At room temperature 25°C-->3hrs
※ At room temperature 15°C--->4hrs
※ At room temperature 5°C--->6hrs

3-9 LV BUSWAY grouting materials mixing procedures:


1 Materials to be prepared:
1.1 12L raw material pail contains:
1.1.1 Fillers
1.1.2 Two cans of resin
1.1.3 One can of hardener
1.2 Liquid wax
1.3 Cleaning solvent:
Rosin water (thinner)
2 Tools to be prepared:
2.1 Grouting die, rubber sealing sleeve
2.2 20L clean empty pail
2.3 Agitator + mixing rod
2.4 Locking tool
2.5 Scraper (can be made by using the cover of 10L raw material pail; do not use
a ferrous metal product).
3 Operational procedures: (See 3-9-1 LV BUSWAY illustrated operational
procedure)
3.1 Before grouting, check the operating instructions:
3.1.1 Check the connector bolt→conforms to the standard torque value
3.1.2 Check the contact resistance→conforms to the standard value (3-7
Contact resistance testing procedures)
3.1.3 Check the insulation resistance→conforms to the standard value (3-
6 Insulation resistance testing procedures)
3.1.4 Check the phase→ conforms to the layout (3-5 Phase testing
procedures)
3.2 Installing the grouting dies (3-8 Grouting die installing and removing
procedures)
3.3 Prepare sufficient amount of grouting dies for installation.
3.4 Mix raw materials
3.5 Perform grouting operation
3.6 After grouting is finished, immediately clean all tools with solvent.
4 Notices:
4.1 Mix raw materials at the place where ventilation is good.
4.2 Avoid contact of resin and hardener.
4.3 Wear rubber gloves and safety glasses.
4.4 Before work, you can apply butterfat type lotions on hands and face for

protection.

4.5 If cleaning with other type of solvent, be cautious of the danger of the
flammability of solvent.
4.6 After work, wash hands with lukewarm water and soap. Keep good custody
of residual raw materials.
4.7 Keep away from the seaside where it is windy and sandy to avoid
degradation of the die-casting quality. Before mixing the die-casting materials,
first install a piece of canvas to guard against wind and sand.
4.8 On rainy days or if the relative humidity is over 85%, the die-casting
connectors should be dehumidified by heating via the blowtorch or the
spotlight before die-casting is performed.
4.9 When working in a clean room, do not mix raw materials in the clean room.
Mix at other place where ventilation is good. If required, install the exhaust
equipment as requested by the employer.

3-10 Materials grouting procedures and material storage conditions


1 Materials grouting procedures:
1.1 Before grouting, first check the worksite temperature and the exhaust
equipment (has to be in operation). During grouting, the temperature must
not be lower than (depending on the working temperature used):
1) TYPE A hardener is suitable for the working ambient temperature of
5°C~15°C.
2) TYPE B hardener is suitable for the working ambient temperature of
15°C~35°C.
3) TYPE C hardener is suitable for the working ambient temperature of
25°C~45°C
1.2 Immediately pour well-mixed materials in the die. To pour grouting, you can
take a convenient pouring point and pour grouting slowly in the die until it is
topped up.
1.3 Slightly hit the side or bottom of the die using hand or a rubber hammer to
allow bubbles in the grouting to be released.
1.4 Slightly scrape back and forth the top surface of grouting using a scraper to
flatten the top surface in level.
1.5 Do not remove the dies until grouting has well cured (3-8 Grouting die
installing and removing procedures)
1.5.1 Options of time for removing the dies:
※ Room temperature at 25°C-->3hrs
※ Room temperature at 15°C-->4hrs
※ Room temperature at 5°C-->6hrs
1.6 When grouting is finished, immediately clean all tools with solvent and keep
them dried.
1.6.1 1.6 When grouting is finished, clean all residues of resin on the

1.7 Do not pour grouting in the dies until you have examined and ascertained
that there is no any foreign object in the dies.
1.8 The operator shall be a qualified person who has received the BUSWAY
installation training from Taian-Ecobar.
2 Die-casting material storage conditions:
2.1 Fillers must be kept dried.
2.2 Materials must not be exposed directly to the sun.
2.3 Do not store materials outside to be exposed to rain.

3-11Last trimming work procedures:


1 The copper busway connected to the BUSWAY junction unit and the copper
busway connected to the distribution panel should be locked with annealed copper
band.
2 How the gap between the BUSWAY junction unit and the junction top is handled:
2.1 Fill with sealant or packing.
2.2 Lock the duct.
3 Method for joining the BUSWAY junction unit with the transformer and the
distribution panel (as shown in the illustration).

3-11-2 If any damage on the exterior of the busway is found, inspect it as follows:
1. First, wear insulated gloves.
2. Use the Mega Ohm meter and connect the grounding wire to a piece of sponge
with water (wrapped with copper wire) and the live wire to the copper bus of the
busway.
3. Wipe back and forth the exterior of the busway at the place where the damage is
located using the sponge with water and apply it with DC 1KV. If the insulation
resistance is dropped to 0Ω, it means that there is a short circuit.
4. If the insulation resistance is not affected, then, mend the damage part at the
exterior by polishing.

3-12 Busway lifting method and precautions:
