Daily Expenditure Study
INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents: (a) background of the study; (b) statement of the problem; (c) purpose of the
study; (d) significance of the study; and (e) scope and limitations.
A. Background
Money makes the world around us revolve at a continuous pace such that expenses became one of the
domineering factors that burden the life of many. Individuals in society especially those who own a
business and those who provide services establish a give-and-take relationship between consumers and
the one they are executing the service. Due to inflation in which prices rise due to an increase in
production costs such as raw materials and wages and a surge in demand for products and services
(Investopedia, 2022), an average person's purchasing power erodes. The occurrence of the COVID-19
pandemic brought a drastic change to the selling price of products and fees for services such that
overpricing, a rampant case in today's time, takes its load on the necessities and even extravagances
that an individual avails and purchases.
Expenses portray a great role in ruling a community. For a student who relies on the allowance given by
the parents, a hold for budgeting is needed. Student budgeting primarily refers to the management of
financial expenses within their assigned budget. The major challenge that students face is the difficulty
to budget their expenses and saving a proportional amount every month for contingent events. With the
technological revolution and advancement in the Philippines, students have adapted their budgeting and
spending habits accordingly. The marketing tactics have influenced the adults too which has led the
young to follow in their footsteps and spend free-handedly. There is a vast difference in the spending
behavior of students in our country as the system to free the younger population at an early age is
different from the west. Developing the saving habits of students can be an effective tool to encourage
the younger lot to live in a financially sustainable way. The more knowledge students have about their
financial responsibility and status, the less likely they are to be in debt and experience shortage in
savings (Samya et al., 2022).
The following are some ways that the study has benefited:
Students
The direct beneficiaries of the study are the students who have to deal with the changes in their allowance.
By knowing about the study, they can make informed decisions and spend their money wisely.
Teachers
The teachers would be able to understand the beneficial of this study. By the given data, it would help
them understand why or how students struggle to pay for their budgets, everyday expenses at school, and
other connected issues.
Researcher
This will help the researcher to give more details on the cost associated with the students' everyday expenses.
It also gives the researcher a significant role in the study, which will help them become more skilled, strategic,
and knowledgeable about conducting research.
Future Researcher
The result of this research may be a basis for further studies and can be used as reference material to
determine the literature for future topics or relevant topics.
The Parents
The research helps the parents of the children who had a hard time paying for everyday costs as parents will be
able to understand how to properly manage finances.
This research is restricted to the classroom and surrounding areas of the school. In addition, the only
