Module 3: Personal Flourishing Plan (PFP) Guide

Individual Work

 Follow the usual format to include your name, section, etc.

 A. Note the learning materials for Module 3. Also watch this video and reflect on the
important points on “happiness”
 https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=p4X7uXfZ2cY&t=2237s
 The Foundations of Happiness by Will Schoder

 B. Write your (narrative) essay integrating all you have learned about yourself so far (this
will be easier to do AFTER you complete the Narrative Knowing output), and techniques of
improving oneself and mapping out how to be “happy” and to “flourish”

 This requirement is an individual plan for personal flourishing.

 The integrative (essay) output will involve the following:

o (1) The student writing about how the theory / concepts (related concepts like the
PERMA model, positive psychology, eudaimonia, security, stress, anxiety,
flourishing) apply to her own life experiences.
o (2) The student examining conditions that would lead for her to flourish. For
example, find problem areas to IMPROVE on-- I have bad sleep hygiene (as
evidenced by my wearable’s sleep scores) personally sleep very poorly but I
intend to fix this by
 (a) tracking my daily sleep habits and
 (b) making an effort to take naps throughout the day to get my mind to rest
more. I have also
 (c) resumed writing on my dream journal to tap into my unconscious. The
past weeks I have been having bizarre dreams again. Last night there was
a blue-sliver talking cat that flew into my room; she claims to have come
from the Tang Dynasty. I am trying to figure out the symbolism of this
dream and do
 (d) some sketching too (art as therapy) to help me relax and
 (e) do more tai chi, qi gong, meditate and get lots of positive emotion.
o All these would have to be guided by the lens of the theories / concepts covered in
class.
o (3) Look at our class Canvas under tab> Pages and Module 3> Learning
Materials numbers 1 and 2 as well as ALL the Exercises on Module 3. Do all of
these and then write your reflections here about it. You may also opt to include a
visual representation of your map/plan to become happier. Here is one such
example. You may use Canva or other apps then include the visual in your essay

I got this image off the internet when I used the search word “happiness
life map” you don’t need to copy it, figure out your own style.

 This individual output focuses on the student analyzing his/her personal experiences rather
than those of someone else as they refer to their Narrative Knowing Output to a more
proactive decision-making self.

 This INTEGRATIVE Essay should be around 500 minimum words/ no maximum.

(Garamond/Calibri, Font size 12)

 The essay must go with a VISUAL (see sample above). You will not get full marks without
it.

Module 3: Personal Flourishing Plan (PFP) Guide

Positive Psychology seeks to promote well-being and happiness; it also focuses on self-
esteem, effective goal-focused mentoring, and the empowerment of people through education.
The model for positive happiness is based on these four principles: enrich our lives by focusing
on positive emotions, engage through meaningful engagement, help us reach our goals by
incorporating a balance of fun and hard work, and promote success by making us feel
motivated toward achieving our goals. Individuals can increase their positive emotions by
intentionally using their top strengths in new ways daily. This might include doing mindful
meditation, taking care of one's health and diet, or reading an emotional story that is inspiring,
uplifting, and exciting. By doing this daily for at least a week, one will likely also experience
more positive emotions and meaning in life. Positive emotion is a big part of life. It is common
for people to experience positive emotions throughout their lives, and many activities can be
used to increase their positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and
achievement. The PERMA can be mutually exclusive, like people could increase engagement by
passively observing the feelings in the present moment, but at the same time, reframing or

describing these feelings in general life. This can lead to new ways of thinking about challenging
situations or events, which increases development over time.
The Values in Action survey that I answered was long, but the contents it was composed
of made it an interesting survey to take. I had fun answering the survey we took since the topics
and questions were relatable. The first character strength I would like to share is gratefulness. It
is crucial to see the good things in life and appreciate the pain and suffering as an opportunity
to understand ourselves better and grow as people. This research shows that learning about
one's strengths and how to express them can positively influence personal growth, self-esteem,
and overall happiness. Taking an interest in ongoing experience for its own sake and finding
subjects and topics fascinating while I keep on exploring and discovering new things in life.
Next, this research is an excellent opportunity for self-reflection about myself and inspires me
to look at others differently. In many ways, looking more closely at my own thoughts and
actions allows me to define what are some traits that make me who I am today. Speaking the
truth but more broadly genuinely presenting oneself, acting sincerely, and taking responsibility
for one's feelings and actions. Lastly, understanding one's strengths can help other people and
give them better tools on how they can interact with the world, which hopefully enhances the
lives of everyone involved.

Student Examining Conditions

I currently have bad study habits but I intend to resolve this by:
A. Minimize distractions around me
B. Make a dedicated study area in my room and
C. Keep my things organized when studying
D. Read more books and articles to sharpen my mind
E. Make a schedule dedicated for studying only

Failing to follow a well-thought-out study strategy is one of the main reasons students
don't do well in school. Each individual learns differently, so it is important for a student to find
a study method that works for them. Poor study habits can really be seen in grades, but if I
change my study habits, my grades will improve. Many students encounter problems in their

studies due to chaotic study habits. I usually use various study tactics, but I need help finding
them practical for me. For example, I read the textbook first and take notes in class. Then when
it is time to study, I quickly go over all the information before class so that I can understand it
better. But when the time comes when I take our exam, I usually forget the things that I studied
throughout the weekend. I also tend to cram things by reviewing the learning materials a day or
hours before our examination. So with this proposed plan, I seek to improve my study habits to
excel in my schoolwork.
Here is my little visual representation of my plan to become happier
