The Govt. of the Japan is expected a Grant Aid of JPY 1210 million to provide
equipment / machinery for upgrading of Sewerage and Drainage System in Gujranwala.
The allocation of funds is not involved in the purchase of such machinery. From
Pakistan side an amount of Rs. 16.100 Million will be provided by the Govt. of Punjab.
Tangible benefits
1. WASA shall minimize the work charge staff and save finances which otherwise is
spent on their wages, as the machinery shall be a replacement of most of the
manual labor.
2. The new machinery is expected to shake off the load from old ones, which at
present demand finance maintenance.
3. The old machinery shall be given a breather to get overhauled with genuine
parts, which shall work for longer period of time and thus save on frequent
breakdown and finances.
4. Choking of sewers and their overflowing result in inundation and consequent
damaging of roads. By deploying new machinery, the situation can be redressed
immediately resulting in saving road damage and its repair cost.
5. Less choking of sewers augments less cost on repair, replacement and their
renovations.
6. By means of new and efficient machinery, the digging out silt from drains has two
pronged benefits. The maintenance of undisturbed gravity flow and the retrieval
of site.
7. A lot of precious man hours are lost in case of machinery breakdown, which is
presently a common experienced. The idling time of operators and labor shall be
curtailed, as their duties shall be shifted over to the new and working machinery.
8. There shall be less POL consumption in proportion to the efficiency of the new
machinery.
9. In the absence of sewer cleaning equipment, the unhygienic conditions of the city
result in many epidemic diseases like cholera, typhoid, malaria and hepatitis. The
lesser the people getting sick, the lesser the burden on Govt. finances for
providing medicines and hospital facilities.
