production and sales are concerned. India is the biggest two wheeler market in
this plant. Registering and over all growth rate of 9.5% between 2006 and 2014
the growth in India automobile industry owed the most to a step upsurge
witnessed in the two wheeler segment till 2014 the volume growth recorded in
the 2014 to 2015 fiscal year stood at a commendable 14.8 percent on a year-on-
year basis. The make in India Champaign of the government of India is also
going to attract more foreign investment in India two wheeler industry carrying
further growth opportunities in the coming year
The automobile sector is divided into four segment two wheeler (mopeds,
scooters , motorcycle, electric two wheeler) passenger vehicle (passengers cars,
utility vehicle multi-purpose vehicles ) commercial vehicle ( light and medium
heavy vehicles), and three wheeler ( passenger carries and good cars ). The
industry is the key driver of economic growth of the nation. Science the
globalization of sector in 1991 and the subsequent opening of 100 percent FDI
through atomic route, Indian automobile sector has come a long way. Today
almost every global auto major has set up facilities in the country.
The world standing for the Indian automobile sector, as per the confederation
of Indian industry, are as follows.
CHAPTER 3.

removal of the engine for repairs, rebuilds, or replacement, an engine hoist is a
must-have. This allows you to easily remove the engine from the car. It also
supports maximum weight for what you will be servicing. Investing in one of
them would be a wiser choice.

SPANNERS

Nuts and bolts are very common for automotive repair work. There are a huge
number of different sized nuts and bolts which are frequently used inside cars

CHAPTER 5.
Major Parts of Hero Motors

1. Fuel Pump

A fuel pump is used to transfer fuel from the volume tank to the
carburetor or fuel injector. A pump is required when the fuel tank
is below the fuel system and the force of gravity is insufficient to
get fuel to the carburetor. Such instances include when the fuel is
stored under the seat or when the tank is close to parallel with the
carburetor.

There are two types of fuel pumps on motorcycle engines: vacuum

and electrical. While these are not normally interchangeable, there
are ways to upgrade a vacuum pump to an electrical pump. Both
perform the required function for the specific design of the engine.
On modern motorcycles, an electric fuel pump is required to
create the pressure required for fuel injection.
2. Carborator

Task For the combustion of the air-fuel mixture, the air supply to
the engine cylinder is just as important as the fuel supply. The
air-to-fuel ratio, air movement, and composition of the intake air
contribute to clean, economical, and dynamic engine operation. In
gasoline motorcycle engines, the air supply to the cylinder is
controlled by means of a throttle body, which reduces or enlarges
the intake manifold cross section. Function The throttle body
assembly is mechanically attached to the throttle and can be
flexibly equipped with various components. An angular-position
sensor for position feedback is included in all variants.
3. Clutch Pulley

Clutch pulleys became a vital component within alternators in the

late 1990s through the introduction of the part by original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Clutch pulleys, also known as
one-way or decoupler pulleys, are designed to decouple the
Alternator from the rotational forces of the engine crankshaft
pulley and serpentine belt.
In the latest Fred Talks video, Bosch Automotive Aftermarket’s
Fred Padgett highlights several critical aspects of alternator clutch
pulleys. You can expect to learn about the purpose of a clutch
pulley, the difference between a clutch pulley and a conventional
steel pulley, and why car manufacturers are using this critical
alternator component.
After reviewing clutch pulleys, Fred explains that special tools are
required to remove and install a clutch pulley on an alternator. To
provide the easiest installation and longest-lasting
remanufactured alternator, Bosch provides a 100% new OE
quality clutch pulley when you purchase a Bosch remanufactured
alternator.

4. Camshaft
A crankshaft assembly for an internal combustion engine having a
one-piece elongated shaft adapted to rotate about a longitudinal
axis. The shaft includes a radially offset portion between the ends
of the shaft, and this radially offset portion is spaced axially
inwardly from each end of the shaft. An elongated connecting rod
having a one-piece annular bearing support at one end is secured
to the shaft so that the annular bearing support is positioned
around the shaft offset portion. A first counterweight is secured to
the shaft adjacent one end of the shaft offset portion while a
second counterweight is secured to the shaft adjacent the other
end of the shaft offset portion. In an alternate embodiment, the
crankshaft, crankpin and one counterweight are formed as a
casting. A one-piece connecting rod is then slid onto the crankpin
and a second counterweight is molded to the crankshaft on the
side of the crankpin opposite from the cast counterweight.
The camshaft is generally connected to the crankshaft with the
use of a chain or a belt or directly via a gear depending on the
design of the engine. The turning of the piston and the working of
the valves has to be in tandem and hence the concept of timing is
important here. Which is why the camshaft is tuned with the
chain in the correct timing and hence the connecting chain is
known as the Timing Chain. In some cases, the camshaft also
controls the oil pump allowing the oil to circulate throughout the
engine efficiently.

5. Air Filter
This might sound a little gross, but if you’ve ever blown your nose
in private after breathing in a lot of dust all day, you know what
comes out. Had you been breathing through your mouth, all of
that rubbish would’ve ended up in your system and given you
some sort of an infection. Bike air filters are just like your nose.
They filter out all the unwanted particles in the air before it enters
the engine, allowing only clean and pure air inside for better
combustion, which results in better efficiency and smooth power
delivery.

6. Piston
The piston is a close fit inside a cylinder, such that rotation of the
crankshaft causes the connecting rod to drive the piston up and
down in the cylinder. Thus, the connecting rod converts the rotary
motion of the crankshaft into the back-and-forth motion of the
piston in its cylinder.

CHAPTER 6
Purpose And Objective

Purpose:
Today lots of competition in two-wheeler industries Faced by
marketer, so every marketer must be know the consumer
preference about two- wheeler and provide them their want.

influences more those consume
CHAPTER 7.

Marketing and technology

The market of two wheelers is very wide and because of technology, new
products (two- wheeler) with new features are introduced day by day. The level
of competition is also very high in two-wheeler market. Therefore, because of
this competition the companies have to invest much more in research area for
survival and success. The invention of the first two-wheeler is a much-
discussable issue. "WHO invented the first motorcycle?" this seems like a
simple question, but the answer is quite complicated.

Two-wheelers originated from the "safety" bicycle that is the

bicycles with front and rear wheels of the same size with a pedal crank
mechanism to drive the rear wheel. Those bicycles, in turn origin from
high-wheel bicycles. The high-wheelers origin from an early type of
pushbike, without pedals, propelled by the rider's feet pushing against
the ground. These appeared around 1800, used iron-banded wagon
wheels, and were called "bone-crushers," both for their jarring ride, and
their tendency to toss their riders.

Edward Butler, an Englishman, built the first motor tricycle in

1884. The first gasoline-engine motorcycle to appear publicly was built
by Gottlieb Daimler, of Bad Cannstatt, Germany, in 1885.

Gottlieb Daimler, who later teamed up with Karl Benz to form the
Daimler-Benz Corporation is credited with building the first motorcycle
in 1885, one wheel in the front and one in the back, although it had a
smaller spring-loaded outrigger wheel on each side. It was constructed
mostly of wood, the wheels were of the iron-banded wooden-spokes

wagon-type, and it definitely had a "bone-crusher" chassis! This

two- wheeler was powered by a single-cylinder Otto-cycle engine, and
may have had a spray-type carburetor.

One of this type of machine was demonstrated at fairs and circuses

in the eastern US in 1867. The first practical engines and motorcycles
were designed by the French and Belgians, followed by British, German,
Italian, and American makers.

The popularity of the vehicle increased, especially after 1910.

During World War FIRST, the motorcycle was used by all branches of the
armed forces in Europe, principally for dispatching. After the war, it
enjoyed a sport craze until the Great Depression began in 1929. After
World War II, motorcycles are being used for high-speed touring and
sport competitions.

During the 1950s with the help of Western Europe and parts of the United
States, the development of a new type of vehicle that is light weighted
motorcycle is become possible, later on it is known as moped. The first
moped Originating in Germany as a 50-cubic-centimetre machine with
simple controls and low initial cost, it was largely free of licensing and
insurance unaware by the attack of the 100cc bikes of the four Indo-
Japanese joint ventures. With the new feature of fuel-efficient low power
bikes, demand swelled, resulting in Hero Honda - then the only producer
of four stroke bikes (100cc category), gaining a top slot.
The entry of Kinetic Honda in mid-eighties with a barometric
scooter helped in providing ease of use to the scooter owners. This helped
in inducing youngsters and working women, towards buying scooters,
who were earlier, inclined towards moped purchases

In 1990, the entire automobile industry saw a drastic fall in

demand. This resulted in a decline of 15% in 1991 and 8% in 1992,
resulting in a production loss of 0.4mn vehicles. Excluding Hero Honda,
all the major producers suffered from recession. Hero Honda showed a
marginal decline in 1992.The reasons for recession in the sector were the
constant rise in fuel prices, high input costs and reduced purchasing
power due to significant rise in general price level and credit crisis in
consumer financing. Factors like increased production in 1992, due to
new entrants joined with the recession in the industry resulted in
companies either reporting losses or a fall in profits.
regulations except in Great Britain.
The more sophisticated motor scooter originated in Italy after World War
II, led by manufacture of a 125-cubic-centimetre model. Even with strong
competition from West Germany, France, Austria, and Britain, the Italian
scooters maintained the leading position in the diminishing market

India is the second largest manufacturer and producer of two-

wheelers in the world. It stands next only to Japan and China in terms of
the number of two-wheelers produced and domestic sales respectively.
This distinction was achieved due to variety of reasons as if restricted
