2022 Media Assignment (Course Wrap-up)

GOAL: To create a visual and written analysis (which are weighted equally) of a meaningful
quotation from the work (Indian Horse OR Macbeth OR your novel), EITHER relating it to the 21st
Century, OR reflecting on it , OR challenging it. You likely picked the quotation because you loved it,
or it enraged you. The final product may be a digital text or a poster accompanied by an
explanatory paragraph.

MATERIALS needed:
- text/online resources; your digital tools of choice, ex., Canva ; found images and text (ex., from
magazines, newspapers, drawings of your own, online sources); analogue students, use your own
discretion with glitter glue!

TOPIC CHOICES
Quotation Selection: After having read and analyzed Indian Horse, or Macbeth, or your independent
novel, search through and find a quotation that is either
a. still relevant for a 21st century reading audience, or
b. one that appeals personally, or,
c. one that you are challenging, either entirely, or with juxtaposition,

1. FINAL PRODUCT 1 of 2:VISUAL DISPLAY: After you have found your quotation, you are to
create a visual display of that quotation (include title, chapter, and page #; if Shakespeare, Act,
Scene, Line). Place your quotation in the centre of a sheet no larger than 18” x 24” (OR create a
multimedia document).
Process: Appropriate Visuals: Search through various magazines, newspapers, online sources,
etc. to find picture(s), captions, headlines, symbols, or phrases that visually illustrate your
quotation. For example, these pictures must capture the meaning or essence of your quotation.
The original quotation, with page reference, should be the focal point of your poster.
Process: Quotation Montage: Once you have found your images and text (you may also draw
your own pictures!), creatively place them around your quotation and create a montage. You
will need text in addition to your source quotation. Ex., captions for your images.

appropriate and useful, i.e., they are stimulating, meaningful and contain appropriate images
that capture the essence of your quotation.
□The layout shows a clear relation between the quotation and the image.
□ There is a conscious use of colour, font, and consideration for audience impact.

2. FINAL PRODUCT 2 of 2: SUPPORTED OPINION PARAGRAPH: Once you have created your
“Quotation Montage,” you must provide a written analysis of one paragraph (~350 words) that
explains the following:

□#1. What the quotation means

□#2 Why you selected the quotation, and
□#3. Describe how your layout features deliver a clear message (that emphasizes #2) of this
quotation, such as the function of your colour, font, and layout choices.

Style Note: Your paragraph may use first person POV, but should contain coherence links/transitions,
and be in MLA layout style. Technical accuracy is high; tone is formal; word choice uses language
used in class.
