OF HUMAN LIFE
“THERE ARE THREE
STAGES TO LIFE:
YOUTH, MIDDLE AGE,
AND ‘YOU’RE LOOKING
GOOD”
INTRODUCTION
⚫Humans are perhaps one of the most
fascinating creatures that ever walked
on this planet.
⚫In a human point of view, this could
be attributed to our success in various
skills and attributes which allowed us
to master many aspects of this world.
⚫We developed the ability to make
and use complicated tools; raised
crops and animals; and treated and
cured many of the diseases that ailed
us.
INTRODUCTION
⚫Through time, man developed into being
that could rationalize things.
⚫He studied how he and those things around
him came to be.
⚫With this, it is worth noting man’s discovery
and continuing study of his physical,
physiological and psycho-social
development on every stage of his life: from
infancy to old age.
⚫On the succeeding discussions, stages of
human life shall be examined alongside with
the needs of each stage, particularly the
HEALTH CARE NEEDS.
HUMAN GROWTH
DEVELOPMENT

It is a process that
begins at birth and
does end until
death.
Four main types of growth
and development
⚫Physical
⚫refers to body growth and includes
height and weight changes, muscle
and nerve development, and changes
in the body organs.

⚫Mental
⚫refers to the development of the
mind and includes learning how to
solve problems, make judgments and
deal with situations

⚫Emotional
⚫refers to feelings and includes
dealing with love, hate, joy, fear,
excitement, and other similar
feelings.

⚫Social
⚫refers to interactions and
relationships with other people.
LIFE STAGES
A. NEONATE - from
birth to 1 month

B. INFANT - 1 month to 12
months

C. CHILDREN - 1 year to
12 years
⚫EARLY CHILDHOOD - 1 year to 6 years
⚫LATE CHILDHOOD - 6 to 12 years

D. ADOLESCENCE - 12 to 20 years

E. ADULT - 21
to 59 years
⚫EARLY ADULTHOOD - 20 to 40 years
NEONATE (from 0 to 1 month)
⚫AKA NEWBORN
⚫The entire body is not fully developed
⚫Expression of feeling is by crying
NEEDS:
❖Warmth is critical
❖Eye antibiotic are given
❖Vitamin K injection is administered to
prevent bleeding (hemorrhagic disease
of the newborn).
FEEDING:
❖Breast Milk
INFANT (from 1 month to 12
months)
START OF DEVELOPMENT
❖Movement, Speech and Cognitive
NEEDS
❖Vitamins
FEEDING/MEDICATIONS
❖Milk formulation
❖Vaccination
❖Soft food
❖Dosage form: DROPS
TAKE NOTE OF: the food and fluid intake
and out take (basis for the illness)
CHILDREN (from 1 year to 12 years old)

ADOLESCENCE (from 12 to 20 years
old)
1. Invincibility Fable- the feeling that she or he
will never be harmed; consequently, adolescents
may take all kinds of risks, falsely secure in the
belief in their own immunity.
-RISK TAKERS
2. Personal Fable- the belief that his or her own
life and feeling are unique .
Example: A teen may complain to his or her
mother that the mother does not know what is
like to be in love.
3. Imaginary Audience- refers to the typical
fantasies about how other react to their
ADULT (from 21 to 59 years old)
EARLY ADULTHOOD - 20 to 40 years
MIDDLE ADULTHOOD - 40 to 59 years
⚫One who is fully developed and mature and has
attained the intellectual capacity and the emotional
and psychologic stability characteristic of a mature
person.
ENCOURAGE OF HEALTHY LIFESTYLE LIVING
❖ Removal of vices
❖ Health diet
❖ Exercise
❖ Reduction of stress load
❖ Take proper rest
MEDICATION
❖ Multivitamins+Minerals
ELDERLY (60 onwards)

⚫AKA SENIOR CITIZEN


FEEDING/MEDICATION
❖ Soft medication
❖ Foods rich in calcium and vitamin D
❖ Vaccination
TAKE NOTE OF THE: Kidney, liver, heart
problem, mental state, muscle coordination
⚫Weight loss can have a positive impact on
conditions such as: HTN, diabetes and
arthritis that develop with age.
ELDERLY (60 onwards)
NOTE: Pharmacist need to be aware of potential
interactions between prescribed medicines and dietary
supplements especially in the elderly.
