    TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

    Re: Timetable applicable to the Second Semester of the Academic Year 2022

    The purpose of this letter is to notify employers of students registered at Unisa about the timetable
    of modules offered in the Department of Mining Engineering. This is to ensure that employers
    accommodate their employees who are our students when they apply for time off to write their
    major tests as part of their studies.

    As per the timetable in Appendix A, students registered for qualifications in the Department of
    Mining Engineering are expected to write two invigilated major tests (i.e., Major Test 1 and Major
    Test 2) and a re-test as a third major test or Major Test 3. These tests are compulsory, and each
    is written at a specified date and time.

    We therefore view these major tests as being equivalent to examinations, and we recommend
    that employers provide study leave for students to write them. Our students will provide the
    assessment timetable in Appendix A as evidence for the dates and times of the major tests.

    Students may still write ordinary Unisa examinations for service modules from other departments.
    In these cases, they will provide examination timetables as evidence, as was done in the past.
