STEPS OF PSYCHROMETRIC CALCULATIONS TO OBTAIN COIL CONDITIONS

Once heat load calculation is completed, with the grand total heat or refrigeration load is known,
we require further data to select the cooling coil that satisfy the room heat load to maintain
desired room conditions. To select a cooling apparatus, we need to know
1. Cooling load on the coil kW,
2. Supply air quantity M³/s and
3. Coil conditions known as coil entering & leaving temperatures.

Item 1 & 3 to be determine in order to select the cooling apparatus. From the heat load calculation
we can determine RSHF & GSHF. However, these two lines cannot be plot unless we know either
coil entering or leaving conditions, which is in fact to be calculated! We can only plot two lines
that are between room conditions & the entering air condition line and the RSHF line.

To solve this problem, Dr. Willis H. Carrier (Farther of Air conditioning) brought the theory of
“Effective Sensible Heat Factor”(ESHF), which led to solve the rest of the problem. The line
between apparatus dew point and the room conditions is now known as ESHF line, which can be
drawn from the room conditions with gradient of ESHF, parallel to SHF scale. The point that this
line intersects the saturation curve is the Apparatus Dew point (ADP). Now draw the Coil SHF
line from ADP until it intersects the room, outdoor line and this point is the coil entering
conditions. The point Coil SHF line intersects with the RSHF line is the coil leaving conditions.
