Spring 2023 Final Exam Study Guide

Below, you will see the names of the two books used for this course: Newman (first
page) and Ritzer (second page). The three chapters for Newman’s book are each posted
on Moodle separately, and Ritzer’s book, Globalization: The Essentials, is posted in its
entirety. Underneath the titles, you will see the names of major headings in ALL CAPS
and subheadings, along with page numbers. If a page range is listed, you need to read all
of those pages. If a single page is listed, you need only to read that single page. Note that
these pages will not be covered sequentially throughout the class periods, but the exam
will be comprised solely of the material listed below, primarily key terms and ideas.

When you are studying, make sure that you strive to fully understand what is being
referred to in the headings, and pay special attention to the full meaning of the
boldfaced and italicized key terms in the sections you read. You need to not just
memorize the definitions of those key terms, but strive to develop a deep comprehension
and understanding of what they mean in context. Each chapter has a conclusion and
summary, and these are very helpful to read before and after you read the chapter
sections. Lastly, attempting to “cram” this material just before the exam is inadvisable.
