The history of hot chocolate

Who doesn't love a nice warm cup of creamy hot

chocolate? Hot chocolate is also called hot cocoa. It is a
warm drink that can be made with water and cocoa
powder or milk, chocolate and sugar.

The Mayans in Mexico made the first chocolate drink.

They made a cold drink with ground cocoa beans,
cornmeal, chili peppers and other ingredients. They would
pour the drink back and forth until foam formed. The drink
tasted spicy and bitter.

The Mayan's drink was brought to England where the

people liked to drink it. Cocoa beans were very expensive
so only the rich could drink it. Soon after the English added
sugar and it was sweet tasting like the hot cocoa that we
drink now.
