Executive Summary

What precisely is air travel? Air transport is the movement of people and products using aircraft and
helicopters. All previous forms of common carrier transport have been overtaken by air travel. The
best value and efficiency are realised when great distances must be covered, valuable commodities
must be transported, urgent needs must be met, or surface topography prevents easy movement or
significantly raises transport costs. Air travel is often profitable even for short distances, even if the
time and money advantages reduce as the distance travelled increases. Additionally, air travel
provides a sometimes-vital medical or communication link between the various groups of patients.
Air transportation involves moving people and freight via the air using aircraft, rockets, helicopters,
and drones. However, there are various forms of air transportation, including hot air balloons, blimps,
gliders, hang gliding, and parachuting, that may or may not be used for transporting goods but may be
utilised for recreational purposes. Economic and social progress has definitely been aided by air
travel. Nearly all aspects of air travel as well as the operations that help to facilitate it are included in
the air transport industry. This includes the whole airline industry, along with aviation manufacturing,
research organisations, military aviation, and more. The airline business appears to have had a
significant influence on society at all levels, from the local to the global. Commercial and social
activity has become speedier, more interconnected, more diversified, and more lucrative thanks to
aviation in many parts of the world.
Transport Incident

Summary of Incident

The helicopter crashed in Calabasas, California at 9:47 a.m. and caught fire. Weather conditions were
reported foggy. Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters responded to the scene and
extinguished the fire by 10:30 p.m. Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters responded to the
scene and put out the blaze at 10:30 p.m. All nine passengers were killed. Witnesses reported that the
helicopter's engine was "sputtering" before the crash. Others reported seeing it fly to the ground at a
rate of "relatively significant speed." It is unclear whether an emergency call was made. The accident
started with a half -acre brush that was difficult to turn off due to the presence of magnesium.
Fragments from the crash were scattered over a steep area. Paramedics on an air ambulance were
hoisted to the scene but were unable to locate any survivors.

All nine helicopter occupants were killed in the crash: Kobe Bryant, Bryan's 13 -year -old daughter
Gianna, college baseball coach John Altobelli, his wife Keri and daughter Alyssa, elementary school
basketball coach Christina Mauser, passenger Sarah Chester and his daughter Payton, and pilot Ara
Zobayan.

Factors Causing The accidents.

Federal safety officials said Tuesday that the pilot of the helicopter that crashed while carrying Kobe
Bryant, killing all nine people on board, made a series of poor decisions that caused him to fly blindly
into a wall of clouds, where he became so disoriented he believed he was climbing when the craft was
descending toward a Southern California hillside. Experienced pilot Zobayan disregarded his training,
broke the law by flying into visibility conditions, and neglected to take other actions that would have
prevented the disaster, such slowing down and landing or switching to autopilot.

When Zobayan made the decision to go above the clouds, he fell into a trap that has ended the flights
of countless pilots. When a pilot loses visual cues when flying in fog or at night, the inner ear may
give the brain incorrect signals that result in spatial disorientation. The phenomenon, often referred to
as "the leans," deceives pilots into thinking they are banking when flying an aeroplane straight and
level. NTSB investigators concluded that Zobayan radioed air traffic controllers that he was rising
while, in reality, he was banking and dropping quickly toward the steep hills near Calabasas. Zobayan
had to be able to see his destination since he was flying in accordance with visual aviation regulations.
That norm was broken by flying into the cloud, which undoubtedly contributed to his confusion.

When the Sikorsky S-76B helicopter slammed into the hillside and caught fire, it was travelling at a
speed of roughly 184 mph (296 kph) and falling at a rate of more than 4,000 feet (1,219 metres) per
minute. Debris covered a space the size of a football field. The victims passed away right away.
Gianna, Bryant's 13-year-old daughter, and six other people travelled from Orange County to his
Mamba Sports Academy in Ventura County that morning. The party had taken a flight to the same
location the day before, and Bryant had travelled that way with Zobayan at least ten times in 2019.

According to statistics, the helicopter has made roughly twenty mostly direct flights between the
airports in Orange and Ventura counties since late 2018. However, that day's poor visibility led the
pilot to divert the helicopter further north. The pilot was not under the influence of alcohol or
narcotics, according to authorities, and there was no indication of a mechanical malfunction. The
absence of the so-called "black box" recording devices, which were optional but would have helped
investigators better comprehend what happened, on the chopper.

Conclusion

Weather that is bad should be respected, not feared. In some circumstances, you might be able to fly
safely even if some other individuals stay on the ground, but the contrary is also possible. Remember
that weather plays a part in aviation accidents every year. Additionally, as pilots are fond of saying,
"It's better to be here wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were down here." You can
fly in considerably harsher conditions if you have an instrument rating, are currently practising with
an instrument aircraft, and are using proper instruments. However, this does not imply that you should
entirely disregard bad weather.
