Listening

Objectives:

-to develop listening skills;

- to involve pupils into communicative activity;

- to expand and practice vocabulary;

- to teach students to find information while listening.

Warming-up:

Can you guess what unites the following names? Wall-E, R2D2 (Star Wars),
The Terminator. They are all robots. Now we are going to listen to the
information about robots, but before listening, look at these words and numbers
and give your ideas what information will be given in the text connected to
them , write your ideas:

We are going to listen to the text for the first time. While listening, check if
your ideas were right.

21st We have lots to see in the 21st century.

3.5 million About 3.5 million domestic robots exist in various shapes and
forms.

1 million Aboit 1 million industrial robots are found worldwide.

Household Robots can hoover, mow the lawn or do other chores around
chores the house.

Surgery Robots are used by doctors in surgery.

Military Robots are used by the police and military to disarm bombs
safely.

intelligent Robots are becoming more and more intelligent.

We are going to read the text today. Read the part of it with the gaps on the most
important word and try to guess what it will be about.

Yes, it will be about robots!

Now read the whole text and be ready to discuss the text.

In groups, create 4 thick questions from the story, using the following patterns
and let other groups answer them:

- If you could choose one robot to help you with household chores, what
would it be?
- Will there come the time when robots are more intelligent than humans?
- What might happen if robots become more intelligent than people?
- If you could create a robot with any ability, what would it be?

- to involve pupils into communicative activity;

- to teach students to share information.
