Signing contract worth Rs.134.9 crore for metro rail maintenance works
 Supply, installation and testing of electrical, fire protection and ventilation works at
Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase - 2, Route 4 (Powerhouse Station to Poontamalli
Bypass) at 18 high-level metro stations and intervening routes including Poontamalli
Workshop A contract worth Rs.134.9 crore was awarded to Voltas for all
maintenance works like
 The contract covers power supply and maintenance works for Poontamalli workshop
and 18 high-level metro rail stations on Route 4. Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems
and Operations), Chennai Metro Rail and Jayant Deshpande, Head, Business
Development, Voltas, signed the agreement.
Chief Minister Stalin unveiled a special flower named "Ilakkiya Malar 2023".
 Chief Minister Stalin released a special flower named 'Ilakkiya Malar 2023' prepared
on behalf of the Tamilarasu Magazine of the Department of News and Public
Relations at the Chief Secretariat.
 The first copy of the flower was received by Chief Secretary V. Irayanbum and the
second and third copies were received by Sahitya Akademi award winning writer S.
Ramakrishnan and famous painter Trotsky Maruthu.
GIS Center through Amruth 2.0 – Rs 17.80 crore directed by Chief Minister Stalin
 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin issued an executive order to set up a dedicated
Geographical Information System control station at the headquarters in Chindarippet
under the Amruth 2.0 project management and office expenditure plan to improve
the progress of the work being carried out in all the structures of the Chennai
Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
 Through this project, the information in the structure of Chennai Water Supply and
Sewerage Board will be created in high technology and the generated information
will be added to the Geographical Information System technology. Implementation of
this scheme will improve the Board's revenue and reduce expenditure
39 lakh educational assistance to 120 students living in Urban Habitat Development
Board flats - Chief Minister M.K.Stalin
 To encourage higher education students living in board housing, educational
assistance is being received and provided with the help of private organizations. Last

year 141 students were given Rs. 42 lakh 30 thousand educational assistance on
behalf of HDFC Bank.
 Following this, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin gave orders for scholarships to 12 students
as a symbol of providing educational assistance amounting to 39 lakh 20 thousand
rupees to a total of 120 students in order to encourage the students of higher
education such as medicine, engineering, bachelor's and master's.
 In this event, Higher Education Minister Ponmudi, Principal Secretary Public Housing
and Department Secretary Ms. Apoorva, Department Director Govinda Rao, HDFC
Bank Tamil Nadu President Kumar Sanjeev, Zonal President Ramesh Vanguri, Board
Chief Community Development Officer Nirmalraj were present.
Chief Minister M.K.Stalin launched the second phase of the Pudumai Pen project
 In order to benefit 1,04,347 college girls in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin
yesterday distributed Rs.1000 to the students of Pattabiram Hindu College,
Thiruvallur district, as part of the 2nd phase of the Pudumai Pen program.
 In appreciation of female education, the DMK government has introduced a scheme
of giving Rs.1000 to college girls to ensure higher education and to ensure that
today's female society becomes a well-educated, literate and technological society.
Accordingly, in a ceremony held in Chennai on 5.9.2022, in the presence of Delhi
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, under the Muvalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher
Education Guarantee Scheme on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare and
Women's Rights, stipend of Rs.1000 per month will be given to school students from
6th to 12th standard in government schools. Chief Minister M.K.Stalin launched the
Women' program. 1,16,342 female students are benefiting from the first phase of
Pudumai Pen Scheme.
Fund allocation for 42 projects under 'Singhara Chennai' 2.0 project
 Under Singara Chennai 2.0 project in Chennai Corporation, the Government of Tamil
Nadu has allocated 42 crore rupees to preserve, revive and restore 11 parks, 2
playgrounds, 10 seaweed parks, 2 graveyards, 16 school assemblies and the iconic
Victoria Public Assembly in Principal College.
190 million dollar strong World Bank funding sanctioned for housing
 A proposal was submitted on behalf of the Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu
Urban Habitat Development Board seeking financial assistance from the World Bank
for urban housing and habitat development.
 Out of the total cost of the project of Rs.4647.5 crore, a loan of Rs.3347.5 crore has
been sought from the World Bank. The World Bank approved the project to be
implemented in 2 phases.
 An investment fund of $50 million and a development loan of $450 million have been
provided from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Accordingly, 200 million dollars were released in the first phase.
 During the 2021-22 budget presentation, it was announced that the 2m phase
housing strengthening project will be implemented with the annual contribution of
the World Bank Fund. An agreement was signed between the Union Government, the
World Bank and the Government of Tamil Nadu on 1st August 2022 to obtain a

development policy loan of 190 dollars from the World Bank for this 2nd phase
project.
 After a careful study by the government, administrative approval has been given to
use the 190 million dollar World Bank financing program.
Musiri Police Station is selected as the best police station in Tamil Nadu
 Law and order police station is located at Musiri, Trichy district. A team nominated by
the Ministry of Home Affairs visited this police station last September and carried out
various inspections.
 At that time, the inspection committee had recommended Musiri Police Station for
merit certificate based on the hygiene, maintenance, and speedy action on the
complaints received, speedy completion of cases in the court, and attitude towards
those who came to complain, and goodwill among the public on the police station.
 Based on that, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs selected the first police station as
the best among the police stations in Tamil Nadu.
Agreement with 'Ola' in the presence of Chief Minister Stalin
 Ola Electric Mobility through its subsidiaries Ola Cell Technologies, Ola Electric
Technologies has proposed to set up a battery manufacturing plant and an electric
vehicle manufacturing plant in the first phase.
 In this scheme, the committed investment is Rs.7,614 crore. In this, Ola Cell
Technologies will invest Rs.5,114 crore and Ola Electric Technologies will invest
Rs.2,500 crore. This will provide employment to 3,111 people.
 The project is to be set up at Chipkot Parkur Industrial Park in Bochampalli,
Krishnagiri District. Through this, the company plans to set up plants with a
production capacity of 1.40 lakh four-wheeler electric vehicles and 20 gigawatt
batteries.
 For this, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Tamil Nadu
government and Ola Electric Mobility Company in the presence of Chief Minister
Stalin.
 The Chief Minister yesterday laid the foundation stone for the Mini Tidal Park, which
is to be constructed at a cost of Rs.30 crores with ground and 4 floors covering an
area of 60,000 sq.ft.
 Inox Air Products has installed more than 100 liquid medical oxygen tanks with a
capacity of 4.5 lakh liters in government and private hospitals. During the Corona
period, the company continued to function and ensured uninterrupted supply of
liquid oxygen to all hospitals in Tamil Nadu. Currently, the company has set up a new
ultra-pure liquid medical oxygen manufacturing plant at SibgadOsur Industrial Park,
Krishnagiri district, employing 105 people at a cost of Rs.150 crore. The Chief Minister
has inaugurated this plant. For the company to get all the permissions including
allotment of 5 acres of land in the industrial park, the guidance agency of Tamil Nadu
government has provided support services through single window internet.
 GX Group, the European market leader in the 'Fiber to the Home' sector, announced
at its July 2022 Investors Conference that it will invest Rs 110 crore and set up a
Research and Development Center in Chennai to employ 100 high-quality technical
engineering personnel. Accordingly, within a short period of time, Chief Minister

Stalin inaugurated the research and development center of the company established
at Rs 110 crore in Duraipak, Chennai.
Chief Minister Stalin published the book Abolition of Bonded Labour
 Abolition of Bonded Labor Day is observed on 9th February every year to eradicate
bonded labor system completely and make Tamil Nadu a bonded labor free state.
 On the occasion of Slavery Day, the Department of Labor Welfare and Skill
Development has prepared the books Abolition of Bonded Labor - Serious Efforts of
Tamilnadu Government and Eradication of Child Labor - Serious Efforts of Tamilnadu
Government in Tamil and English.
 These books were released by Chief Minister M.K.Stalin. The event held at the Chief
Secretariat was attended by the Chief Secretary Thaoyanpu and the officers of the
Labor Welfare Department.
Tamil Nadu is number one in wind power generation
 The Central Department of Renewable Energy has published a list of the production
capacity of solar and wind power plants in every state in the country as of January 31
this year. Tamil Nadu tops the list with 9,964 MW of wind power generation
capacity.
 Following that, Gujarat is second with 9,918 MW of capacity; Karnataka ranks third
with a generating capacity of 5,269 MW; Maharashtra is fourth with 5,012 MW and
Rajasthan is fifth with 4,681 MW. Large solar companies set up solar power plants of
more than one megawatt on their vacant land and sell the electricity they generate
to the power board.
 Low capacity rooftop power plants have also been set up in buildings including
houses. Farmers have set up low-capacity solar power plants on their lands. As of
January this year, in Tamil Nadu, 6,123 megawatt solar power plants have been
installed on buildings and 373.73 megawatt solar power plants have been installed.
 Tamil Nadu ranks fourth in solar power generation capacity in the country. In the list,
Rajasthan tops the list with a capacity of 16,353 MW; Gujarat is second with 8,747
megawatts; With a capacity of 8,018 MW, Karnataka is also at the third position.
Tolkappiyam audio format app - Published by Semmozhi Tamil Research Institute
 Tolkappiyam is the oldest book in Tamil. Some of the idioms, grammatical elements
and traditions of life found in it predate the Sangha literary texts. Thus it is hailed as
the 'first book in Tamil'. In 2021, the Central Institute of Classical Tamil Studies
published the English translation of such a special Tolkappiyam.

Chief Minister M.K.Stalin launched new projects under 'Seven Projects' and laid
foundation stones for various hospital buildings
 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin today (28.2.2023) in a function held at Anna
Centenary Memorial Library Hall, Chennai, under seven ambitious projects,
 A scheme to provide special nutrition to malnourished children and mothers, a
scheme to increase the monthly allowance for transgenders from Rs 1000 to Rs 1500,
a scheme to expand the Chief Minister's breakfast scheme to the corporation and
municipal areas, to modernize sewage disposal works in the Chennai metropolitan

area, and to integrate sanitation workers and their families as entrepreneurs.
Inaugurated a special scheme for carrying out, scheme of giving free housing to

blocks at a cost of Rs 1,136.32 crore on behalf of Medical and People's Welfare
Department, issued appointment orders for various government jobs to those
selected through Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and on compassionate basis.
OTHER STATE CURRENT AFFAIRS
5.9 tonne lithium discovery in Jammu and Kashmir
 As the entire world moves towards electric vehicles, the demand for lithium used in
batteries is high. In this case, the existence of 5.9 tons of lithium metal has been
discovered in Salal-Haimana area of Riasi district in Jammu and Kashmir.
 This will make India the second largest lithium reserve in the world after Chile. 1,600
tonnes of lithium has been discovered in Mandya, Karnataka, while Kashmir has 5.9
tonnes of lithium metal.
Union Home and Cooperatives Minister Mr. Amit Shah presented the President's Color
(the highest presidential flag) to Haryana Police at Karnal
 Home Minister and Union Minister Mr. Amit Shah presented the 'President's Color' to
the Haryana Police in Karnal, Haryana today. On this occasion, Haryana Chief Minister
Shri Manohar Lal, Haryana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, State
Home Minister Mr. Anil Vij and Haryana Director General of Police Mr. P.K. Agarwal
and others were also present.
Small grains in school lunches in Chhattisgarh state: Central government approves
 UN This year is being celebrated as the International Year of Small Grains by the
council. In this regard, the central government announced on January 1 that activities
to promote small grain foods will be carried out across the country. Meanwhile, the
central government has approved the provision of small grains as midday meals in
schools in the state of Chhattisgarh.

a park in Pune, Maharashtra, depicting the biographical aspects of Shivaji Maharaj
 Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperatives Mr. Amit Shah today inaugurated
the first phase of a park in Pune, Maharashtra called “Shiv Srishti” featuring aspects
of Shivaji Maharaj's life. In this program, the Chief Minister of the state Mr. Eknath
Shinde, Vice Principal Mr. Devendra Fadnavis also attended.
 Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Amit Shah said that he paid tribute to the
noble contribution of Shivaji Maharaj in the freedom struggle. Opened on the
occasion of Shivaji Maharaj's birthday, the park is open to the public from tomorrow.
Shelly Oberoi elected as the new Mayor of Delhi Corporation
 Elections were held last December for a total of 250 seats in the Delhi Corporation.
Out of this, Aam Aadmi Party won 134 seats and won majority. BJP came second with
104 seats.
 Accordingly, the election was held yesterday. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Shelly
Oberoi has won. A total of 266 votes were cast in the poll held to elect the Mayor and

Deputy Mayor. In this, AAP's Shelly Oberoi got 150 votes and BJP's Rekha Gupta got

Mr. Nitin Gadkari approves 32 km six-lane green road in Andhra Pradesh at a cost of
Rs.1292.65 crore
 Central Road Transport and Highways Minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari has approved the
six-lane Bangalore-Vijayawada economic 32 km stretch from Chandrasekharapuram
to Bolavaram in Andhra Pradesh under Bharatmala Paryojana - a comprehensive
action plan for highway development in the country at a cost of Rs 1292.65 crore.
 The 342.5 km stretch from Kotikonda check post to Muppavaram will be converted
into a green lane. This route will be expanded to 14 sets in Prakasam district of
Andhra Pradesh.
INDIA CURRENT AFFAIRS
Steel Authority of India records production in January 2023
 Steel Commission of India (SAIL), a Maharatna PSU operating under the Union
Ministry of Steel, has recorded its highest ever monthly production volume in January
2023. In January 2023, the company has produced 1.72 million tonnes of crude steel.
 This is more than the best record achieved by the company last March 2022. Hot
metal and salable steel production also rose to an all-time high of 1.8 million tonnes
and 1.6 million tonnes in January. This is also a better growth than March 2022
output.
G20 International Conference on Carbon Utilization and Storage organized by National
Thermal Power Corporation
 The G20 Conference on Carbon Utilization and Storage has been organized
internationally by the National Thermal Power Corporation. India will assume the
presidency of the G20 on December 1, 2022. India holds this leadership for one year.
In this regard, the working committee meeting on electricity distribution will be held
from 5th to 7th February 2023.
 As part of this, India's largest integrated power corporation, NTPC, on behalf of the
central government's power department, is conducting the seminar. An International
Conference on Carbon Utilization and Storage will be held on 5th at Dej Westend,
Bengaluru.
 It is attended by representatives of trade unions, policy makers, scientists and
academic institutions from various countries. The seminar highlighted the
importance of carbon utilization and storage in achieving the goal of clean energy
sharing.
The Prime Minister participated in the Jaipur Mahakal Festival through video
 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Jaipur Mahakal Festival today via
video. He also visited a Kabaddi match on the occasion. Mr. Rajyavardhan Singh
Rathore, Member of Lok Sabha from Jaipur Rural Constituency, has been conducting
the Jaipur Mahakhel Festival since 2017.

 Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated the India Energy Week 2023 in
Bengaluru today.

 The Prime Minister also unveiled Indian Oil Company uniforms made from used
plastic bottles.
 He dedicated the Indian Oil Corporation's indoor solar energy cooking system's
double-stove model to the country and launched its commercial sale.
 The Prime Minister also introduced E-20 fuel at 84 retail petrol stations in 11
states/UTs under the Ethanol Blending Scheme. He flagged off the Green Transport
Rally with vehicles powered by green energy sources. This will help create awareness
among the public about green fuel.
 The event was attended by Karnataka Governor Mr. Dawar Chand Khelat, Karnataka
Chief Minister Mr. Basavaraj Bummy, Union Petroleum and Gas Minister Mr.
Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Petroleum and Gas Minister Mr. Rameshwar Theli and
others.
 India Energy Week is being organized from February 6 to 8 with the aim of
showcasing India's growing power in the energy transition.
 The event will bring together leaders from the conventional and non-conventional
energy industry, governments and academic institutions to discuss the challenges
and opportunities of the country responsible for the energy transition. More than 30
ministers from all over the world will attend.
 500 speakers, 1000 exhibitors and 30,000 delegates will discuss the challenges and
opportunities for the future of Indian energy.
The Prime Minister dedicated HAL's helicopter factory at Tumkur to the country
 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated to the country the helicopter factory
set up by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited company known as HAL at Tumkur.
Similarly, he also laid foundation stone for 2 Jaljeevan schemes at Tumkur Industrial
Estate, Diptur and Chikkanayakanahalli.
 After visiting the infrastructural facilities of the helicopter factory, the Prime Minister
also inaugurated a light helicopter.
 The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. Basavaraj Tommy, Minister of Defense, Mr.
Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr.
Narayanasamy, Karnataka State Ministers and others participated in the event.
 In another move towards self-reliance in the defense sector, the Prime Minister
dedicated Hindustan Aeronautics' helicopter factory at Tumkur to the country. The
foundation stone was laid in 2016.
 The new green helicopter factory will improve the productivity and environment of
helicopters. It is the largest helicopter factory in Asia. In the next 20 years, Hindustan
Aeronautics plans to manufacture more than a thousand helicopters of 3 to 15 tons
capacity at Tumkuru. This will provide employment to around 6,000 people in the
area.
The President launched the National Conference on Women as the Foundation of
Community Value and the All India Awareness Movement on Family Empowerment.

 Speaking on the occasion, the President said that a national conference on women as
the foundation of value in society is very necessary today. He said that women have
played an important role in shaping the values and norms of Indian society.
 He said that the Brahma Kumaris organization has tried to revive India's values
through women at the centre. Stating that it is the largest spiritual center run by
women in the world, he noted that more than 46,000 sisters here are spreading
Indian culture and spiritual heritage in about 140 countries.
 Speaking about the empowerment of women, the President said that whenever
women get equal opportunities, they perform at par with men and are sometimes
better than men in every field. He said that the participation of women in many fields
is increasing.
 However, many of them, he said, were unable to reach the top. In the private sector
in particular, the participation of women has declined, he said. Family responsibilities
are the main reason for this.
 Generally working women also have to shoulder the responsibilities in the office and
at home. He said that it is necessary to change the mentality in children that it is only
women's responsibility to take care of the house.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
 Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone of the Delhi-Mumbai
Expressway on March 8, 2019. According to this, 1,386 km will be constructed at a
cost of Rs.1.03 lakh crore to connect 6 states namely Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan,
Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra. This road is being built for a distance. It
is the longest expressway in the country.
 This expressway, which is currently being constructed as an 8-lane road, has scope
for expansion into a 12-lane road. The road from Delhi to Mumbai is being
constructed using German technology. Surveillance cameras are installed at 500
meter intervals along the road.
 Barricades have been erected across the road to prevent people and animals from
crossing. 120 km per hour on this road. Can travel at speed. 50 km Spaces are
reserved for resting at intervals.
 Facilities such as hostel, hotel, ATM, grocery store are being made there.
Recreational parks for children are being set up at 93 roadside locations. Every 100
km. Medical centers are set up at long distances. In case of an accident, helipad
facilities are also provided at important places to enable rescue operations by
helicopter.
 One lane of the expressway is to be reserved for electric vehicles. This is the first e-
highway in the country. 20 lakh saplings have been planted along the expressway.
 In this case, the first phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is 246 km from Delhi to
Lalchat in Rajasthan, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs.12,150 crore. The
road was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Inaugurates Maharishi Dayananda Saraswati's 200th Birth Anniversary Celebrations in
New Delhi

 Maharishi Dayananda Saraswati, born on February 12, 1824, was a social reformer.
He founded the Arya Samaj in 1875 against the social inequalities prevailing in his
time. The Arya Samaj played an important role in the cultural and social awakening of
the country by emphasizing social reforms and education.

The Prime Minister inaugurated and addressed the Water-People Project through a video
presentation
 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today addressed the launch of the
Brahmakumaris' Water-People's Movement through video. Talking about the rain
harvesting drive, the Prime Minister said that the decreasing ground water level is
the biggest challenge for the country.
 He said that water conservation has been improved in underground Gram
Panchayats in the country through the Ground Water Scheme. The Prime Minister
said that the construction of 75 Amrita reservoirs in every district of the country is a
major step towards water conservation.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the Adi Makhotsavam at the Major Tian Chand National
Stadium in New Delhi
 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated the grand national tribal
festival called Adi Makhotsavam at Major Tian Chand National Stadium in Delhi. This
initiative to highlight the culture of tribal people at a national level celebrates the

who visited the festival, paid floral tributes to Lord Birsa Munda and visited the stalls
at the fair.
 The festival will be held from February 16 to 27 at the Major Dayan Chand National
Stadium in New Delhi.
 The event features 200 stations, organized to celebrate the richness and diversity of
tribal communities across the country.
 About 1,000 tribal artists participate in this festival. As the year 2023 is being
celebrated as the International Year of Small Grains, emphasis is being placed on
indigenously grown Sri Anna crops along with handicrafts, handlooms, pottery,
jewellery, etc.

 The first meeting of the 62nd session of the United Nations Commission for Social
Development took place this week in New York. India's Permanent Representative to

 Jan Ivanovski from North Macedonia and Carla Maria Carlson from the Dominican
Republic have been chosen as vice-presidents.
Inauguration of India-Singapore UPI-PayNow link
 Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Singapore Mr. Led by Lee
Hsien Loong. Reserve Bank of India Governor Mr. Shaktikanta Das, Managing
Director, Financial Services Authority of Singapore Mr. Ravi Menon exchanged cross-
border transactions with each other through their mobile phones.
 Singapore is the first country to introduce a person-to-person money transfer facility
across borders. This scheme will help people of Indian origin living in Singapore,
including migrant workers/students.
 Digitization and fintech benefits can be brought to common man and low cost by
transferring money from Singapore to India. Accepting UPI payments via QR code is
already available at select merchants in Singapore.
 The video conference started with a telephonic conversation between the Prime
Ministers of the two countries. They also discussed areas of mutual interest.
2023 Govt announces release of 50 lakh metric tonnes of wheat under domestic export
sales system
 The central government has decided to release an additional 20 lakh metric tonnes of
wheat under the domestic sale system through the Food Corporation of India. As in
previous years, it is planned to sell wheat and produce by flour mills to private
traders and manufacturers through electronic auction.
 De-stocking measures will release 20 lakh metric tonnes of wheat in the open
market, resulting in lower market prices of wheat and wheat products to benefit
consumers.
 A video conference was held today with representatives of the Food and Public
Distribution Department, Food Corporation of India and Flour Mills Association.
Various measures have been taken to curb inflation and control prices in the open
market.
 On the last 10th, wheat price per kg was Rs. 23.50, from Rs. Reduced to 21.50. The
central government has said that through this, the prices of wheat, atta and semolina
will be reduced.
 The reserve price reduction will remain in effect till 31.03.2023.

 Based on the new National Education Policy, the Union Ministry of Education has
informed all and Union Territories about this order. The central government has
implemented a new education policy across the country.
 Since 3 to 6 years is the period of brain development, according to the
recommendation of researchers that education should start after 6 years of age, in
the new education policy, it is mandatory that 6 years of age should be completed to
join the 1st class.
 To achieve this vision the Department of School Education and Literacy of the
Ministry of Education has written to all the States and Union Territories. In that, the
enrollment age for the first class in school education should be changed beyond 6.
 States should ensure enrollment of children in Kindergarten from 3 to 6 years, states
should implement 2 years diploma course in nursery schools, states and Union
Territories have been instructed.
The Prime Minister presided over the 41st Pragati Discussion Meeting
 Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi presided over the 41st Pragati meeting today and
reviewed the progress of the project work. The Prime Minister reviewed Pragati
projects, an IT-based multifaceted platform for proactive management and timely
implementation.
 The Prime Minister reviewed 9 important infrastructure projects worth Rs.41,500
crore in 13 states. The Prime Minister reviewed 3 projects of the Ministry of Road
Transport, 2 projects of the Ministry of Railways, one project each of the Ministry of
Electricity, Coal, Petroleum and Health. These projects are being implemented in 13
states including Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. 328 projects worth Rs.15.82
lakhs have been examined in Pragati meetings held so far.
Prime Minister addresses a post-Budget webinar on green growth
 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today addressed a post-Budget webinar on Green
Growth. This is the first part of 12 post-Budget webinars to seek feedback for
effective implementation of initiatives announced in Union Budget 2023.
 The webinar, chaired by the Union Ministry of Power, will have six sessions covering
both energy and non-energy aspects of green growth. Ministers and Secretaries of
concerned Central Government Ministries along with State Governments, industry,
academia, research institutes and public sector organizations will participate in this
webinar and provide suggestions for better implementation of Budget
announcements.
 Green growth is one of the seven key priorities in the Union Budget 2023-24 to bring
about green industrial and economic transformation, eco-friendly agriculture and
sustainable energy in the country.
Coal production increased by 16% to 698.25 million tonnes during April 2022 – January
2023
 Domestic coal production has been steadily increasing over the past few years. Coal
production increased from 730.87 million tonnes in 2019-20 to 778.19 million tonnes
in 2021-22. Coal production continues to increase in this financial year as well.

 Coal production during April 2022 – January 2023 has reached 698.25 million tonnes.
This is an increase of 16% compared to the same period of the previous financial
year. During the same period of 2021-22, coal production was 601.97 million tonnes.
 Coal India's own production increased from 478.12 million tonnes to 550.93 million
tonnes during this period. This is an increase of 15.23%. This increase in production is
helpful in meeting the demand for coal caused by additional power consumption.
 The Coal Ministry has set a target to increase coal production to 1.31 billion tonnes in
FY2025 and 1.5 billion tonnes in FY2030. The Ministry of Coal is actively working with
various central and state government agencies to increase coal mines and coal
production. Due to this the production of commercial coal mines continues to
increase.
Defense talks between India and Sri Lanka
 The 7th security talks between India and Sri Lanka started in Delhi on 24th. The 2-day
meeting was chaired by the Secretary of the Defense Department, Krithar Aramane,
and the Secretary of the Sri Lankan Defense Department, General Kamal Gunaratne.
Defense cooperation between the two countries was discussed in the meeting.
 It was decided that the two countries would share their experiences and capabilities
during the joint exercise. It was also agreed to increase the intensity of bilateral
military exercises. The talks have gained importance amid China's efforts to expand
its influence in the Indian Ocean region.
PM Modi meets German Chancellor Schalz
 Accepting PM Modi's invitation, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Delhi on a
2-day visit. He was accorded a grand welcome at the Delhi airport.
 Later, Scholz was given a red carpet welcome at the Presidential Palace. Following
this, he met Prime Minister Modi. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed
ways to focus on improving bilateral relations in the areas of trade and investment,
new technologies, clean energy and security. Also, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and
the situation in the Indo-Pacific region were discussed.
 During his meeting with German President Olaf Schalz, Prime Minister Modi was
gifted Meghalaya's stoles (neck piece) and Nagaland's shawl. It is to be noted that
assembly elections are going to be held tomorrow in both these states.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated Shimoga Airport
 A new lotus-shaped airport has been constructed at a cost of Rs 450 crore at Shimoga
in Karnataka. The passenger terminal building is designed to handle 300 passengers
per hour. Built on an area of 775 acres, the airport is named after the Kannada
national poet Kwembu.
 Prime Minister Modi and former Chief Minister Yeddyurappa attended the
inauguration ceremony of the airport yesterday under the chairmanship of Karnataka
Chief Minister Basavaraj Pommy. Then Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the airport.
 Subsequently, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the Rs 990 crore
Shimoga-Ranipennur new railway line and the Rs 100 crore Kotekanguru Railway
Coaching Centre. He also launched 44 smart city projects worth Rs 895 crore in
Shimoga.

New app to detect fish diseases: Central Govt
 Union Fisheries Minister Parshotham Rupala inaugurated the genetic improvement
program at Chennai National Institute of Brackish Water Aquaculture. An app named
'Report Fish Disease' has been launched to inform about the diseases of fish in our
country. In this way we can directly inform the District Fisheries Officers about the
diseases affecting our fish.

ECONOMY CURRENT AFFAIRS
January 2023 - Collection of GST
 The total GST revenue till 5 PM on 31.01.2023 is Rs.1,55,922 crore. This includes GST
Rs 28,963 crore, SGST Rs 36,730 crore, IGST Rs 79,599 crore (including Rs 37,118
crore collected on import of goods) and Cess Rs 10,630 crore (including Rs 768 crore
collected on import of goods).
 Out of this, Rs 38,507 crore has been paid towards CGST and Rs 32,624 crore towards
SGST and IGST as regular dues. The total revenue of Central and States in January
2023 after regular settlement is Rs 67,470 crore for CGST and Rs 69,354 crore for
SGST.
 The revenue for the current financial year up to January 2023 is 24% higher than the
GST revenue for the same period last year. Revenue for the period from import of
goods was 29% higher and domestic exchange (including import of services) was 22%
higher than revenue from these sources during the same period last year.
 Similarly, this is the third time that GST collections have crossed Rs 1.50 lakh crore in
the current financial year. In December 2022, e-way receipts for Rs 8.3 crore were
filed.
Repo rate hiked for 6th time - RBI decision
 RBI conducts a monetary policy review meeting once in 2 months and various policy
decisions including interest rates are taken. In this way, the meeting for the current
month started on the 6th last under the chairmanship of Reserve Bank Governor
Shakti Kanthadas. The results were announced.
 Accordingly, the repo rate for short-term loans has been increased by 0.25 percent to
6.5 percent. The decision was taken on the basis of 4 of the 6-member committee
recommending a rate hike, RBI said.
 The RBI has been increasing the repo rate to control inflation. Due to this the
monthly installment (IMI) for home, auto and personal loans is increasing. This

decision has come as a shock to the loan installment payers as the loan interest rate
has already exceeded 9 percent in most of the banks.
 The Reserve Bank has predicted that the country's economic growth will be 6.4
percent in the coming financial year 2023-24. Inflation is expected to decelerate to
5.3 percent in the coming fiscal from the current average of 6.5 percent.
The country's headline inflation eased to 4.73% in January
 Inflation increased over the same month last year due to rise in prices of mineral oils,
food commodities, crude petroleum and natural gas, chemicals and chemical
products, base metals, electricity, textiles etc. India's headline inflation stood at
5.85% in November last year.
 Subsequently, it decreased to 4.95 last December. Meanwhile, the country's overall
price inflation has come down to 4.73% in January. This has led to a continuous
decline in India's headline inflation.
 Headline inflation has come down to its lowest level in the last 2 years. The fall in the
inflation rate is attributed to fall in prices of mineral oils, base metals and metal
products, apart from machinery and equipment.
Recommendations of the 49th GST Council Meeting
 The 49th GST Council was convened in Delhi under the chairmanship of Union
Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman. Union Minister
of State for Finance Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary, Finance Ministers of States and Union
Territories and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance were also present in the
meeting.
 GST rates on goods and services and other trade facilitation measures GST
compensation, GST Appellate Tribunal, Approval of Committee of Ministers (GoM)
Report on Skill Based Taxation The GST Council has made the following
recommendations.
 The total GST compensation outstanding for June 2022 is Rs. 16,982 crores. Since
there is no amount in the GST compensation fund, the central government has
decided to release this amount from its own resources.
 Future compensation will be withdrawn from cess collection. In addition, the Center
will also provide a final GST compensation of Rs 16,524 crore as admissible to states
that have provided revenue figures certified by the Accountant General of the states.
 In this way, Tamil Nadu as compensation for June is Rs. 1201 crore and Rs.73 crore
will be released for Puducherry.
 On the subject of GST Appellate Tribunal, the Council accepted the report of the
Committee of Ministers with some modifications. The final draft amendments to the
GST laws will be sent to the members for their comments. The Chairman is
empowered to finalize it.
 The Council approved the committee's recommendations aimed at improving
revenue collection and plugging leakages from products like paan masala, gutka and
chewing tobacco. Approval to reduce duty on pencil sharpener from 18% to 12%.
India's mineral production to rise 10 percent in December 2022
 The mining and quarrying sector production in the country increased by 9.8 percent
in December 2022 compared to December 2021. At the same time, the overall

growth for the period April to December 2022-23 has increased by 5.4 per cent over
the same period of the previous year.
 Important minerals with increased production in December 2022 over December
2021 and increased percentage: Gold (64.2%), Phosphorite (53.9%), Iron Ore (19.5%),
Lime (14.5%), Manganese Ore (12.8%), Coal (11.4%), concentrated zinc (9.4%),
concentrated lead (4.5%), concentrated copper (3.9%), and natural gas (2.6%).

ISRO achievement in launching light weight satellites
 The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is deploying communication, remote
sensing and guidance satellites required by our country through PSLV and GSLV type
rockets. In this, satellites weighing 1,750 kg can be launched by PSLV and 4,000 kg by
GSLV.
 ISRO has newly designed the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) rocket to carry
small satellites (up to 500 kg) into low earth orbit. It weighs 120 tons and is 35 meters
tall. It is made in less time and cost than other rockets. Subsequently, ISRO planned
to launch 3 satellites including IOS-07 by the newly made SSLV-T2 rocket.
 The countdown to the final phase of the rocket launch began at 2.48 am.
Subsequently, the SSLV-T2 rocket was launched from the first launch pad at the
Satish Dhawan Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 9.18 am. Within 15 minutes
of liftoff, 3 satellites were successfully placed in the planned orbit at an altitude of
450 km above the Earth.
 The program's flagship satellite, IOS-7, has a total mass of 156 kg. Its lifespan is one
year. It will be used for earth observation and research work for future technological
need. It will also carry out spectrum observations in space, humidity studies in the
airwaves.
 Educational satellite: Along with this, 2 satellites were launched namely Janus (10.2
kg) of USA and Azadisat-2 (8.8 kg) of Chennai-based SpecSkits India. In this, Azadisat-
2, an educational satellite, was created by the collaboration of 750 students across
the country. It will carry out research on radio waves for the next one year. The
satellite will also play the NCC song to celebrate NCC's 75th anniversary.
India's first 'hybrid rocket' launched
 India's first hybrid rocket carrying 150 small satellites was successfully launched
today at 8.15 am from the beach of East Coast Road, Thiruvidanthai, on behalf of APJ
Abdul Kalam International Foundation.
 ISRO technical scientists led by ISRO scientist Gokul Anand piloted the rocket.
Telangana State Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, ISRO Scientist Mylaswamy
Annadurai, Indira Gandhi Nuclear Research Center Director Venkataraman,
Tiruppurur MLA Balaji Rose Martin, Jose Charles Martin, ABJM Najeema Maraikayer,
Sheksha Lim, Many dignitaries including Shekhtavoor were present.
 The so-called hybrid sounding rocket is a low-altitude launch vehicle used for test
flights and satellite data collection. The hybrid sound rocket launched today is about
2.4 km. It is reported that it can go up to height.

 Donald jumped a height of 2.23m. Daryl Sullivan of USA 2.19m. He won bronze in
jumping. Tejaswin had won bronze in the last 2022 Commonwealth Games. Shankar

Zagreb Open 2023 - Indian athlete wins bronze in wrestling event in Croatia
 India's Ashu won bronze in the 67kg Greco-Roman category at the Zagreb Open
wrestling tournament held in the Russian capital Zagreb. In the men's 67 kg category,
Ashu won the bronze by defeating his opponent Adomas Grigaliunas of Lithuania 5-0.
 With the 23-year-old Ashu winning bronze, India's bronze medal tally is 2. Elsewhere
on Sunday, Birmingham Commonwealth Games silver medalist Samantha Stewart
defeated India's Asian Championship bronze medalist Sushma Shokeen of Canada in

 Khelo India Youth Games are being held in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This series

Earthquake in Syria and Turkey
 The first earthquake struck in the early hours of the morning with a magnitude of 7.8.
Another 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck in the afternoon. And for the 3rd time, an
earthquake of magnitude 6.0 has been reported. The Geological Survey reported that
the earthquake in Turkey was felt as far as Greenland.
 Most of the rubble is reported in central Turkish cities. Turkish President Recep
Tayyip Erdogan has announced seven days of national mourning following the
earthquake that killed more than 2,600 people in Turkey and neighboring Syria.
Nicos Christodoulides elected as Cyprus' new president
 Nicos Christodoulits has won the Cyprus presidential election with 51.9% of the vote,
defeating his challenger Andreas Mavroiannis after the second and final round of
voting. Andreas Mavroiannis had 48.1% of the vote.
 Nicos Anastasiades of the ruling DISY party has been in power since 2013 in this
biennial presidential election.

Resolution at the UN to withdraw Russian forces from Ukraine
 Today (Feb. 24) marks one year since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. Now it has

Marriage age raised to 18 in Britain

First fighter jet landing aboard Vikrant
 An entirely indigenously developed aircraft carrier INS was recently dedicated to the

 In this context, Tejas, a light fighter aircraft belonging to the Indian Navy, successfully
landed for the first time aboard INS Vikrant on trial basis.
 Built at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore, the 45,000 tonne aircraft carrier INS Vikrant was
dedicated to the country in September last year. With a length of 262 meters and a
beam of 62 meters, the Vikrant is the largest warship built in India. Of this, it can
carry 30 aircraft.
'TARKASH' Counter-Terrorism: Indo-US Forces Joint Exercise in Chennai
 War is a threat to the world. Both physical and biological warfare are threats to the
nations of the world. In this case, joint anti-terrorism training is going on between
India and America.
 This exercise is for the first time training against nuclear and bio terrorist attacks.
Joint training is conducted against Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear

The ongoing training in Chennai also includes training on combating chemical and
biological attacks.
 A target attack drill was also conducted by IAF helicopters. Successfully engaged in
target destruction, hostage rescue and chemical agent weapon neutralization were
practiced.
Tamil Nadu Government MoU with Nissan
 Renault Nissan is a joint venture between Renault of France and Nissan of Japan.
Currently, Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd is producing only 2 lakh cars out
of its full production capacity of 4.80 lakh cars.
 RNAIPL and RNTBCI have come forward to modernize vehicle manufacturing facilities
and introduce new models. Expansion of existing operations i.e. expansion of
production capacity utilization from 2 lakh cars to 4 lakh cars and investment of Rs
5,300 crore over the next 5 years for design and development purposes.
 An ordinance for this has also been issued in January this year. In the first phase of
this, an MoU was signed between the Government of Tamil Nadu and Renault Nissan
Automotive India Pvt Ltd in the presence of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
today for an investment of Rs 3,300 crore and new employment for 2000 people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Aero India 2023
 Looking forward to cooperation with other countries in the field of aviation, India is
conducting a 'Kurukul' flypast at the Indian Air Force base in Bengaluru.

Indo-Uzbekistan joint military exercise begins in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand
 The fourth joint military exercise 'Dustlik' between the Indian Army and the
Uzbekistan Army began in Pithora, Uttarakhand. 45 players each from both countries
participated in this joint exercise.
 The exercise aims to promote constructive relations between the armies of the two
countries. Soldiers have joined the Garwal Rifles in the Indian Army. The first exercise
between the two countries was held in Uzbekistan in November 2019.
 The 14-day joint exercise aims to prevent terrorist activities in hilly areas and urban
areas. Discussions, debriefings and process explanations will take place in group
training. Soldiers of both countries will be trained in operations related to handling
new generation logistics and technology. Emphasis will be placed on increasing
interoperability between forces.

Astronomers have discovered 12 new planets on Jupiter. Thus it has been confirmed
that there are currently 92 lands in Jupiter which has 80 lands.
 This made Jupiter the first planet in the solar system with the most land. Shani, which
was in the first position till now, has now been pushed to the 2 meter position.

Cabinet approves India-Chile MoU for cooperation in agriculture and allied industries
 A Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the
MoU signed between India and Chile for cooperation in agriculture and allied
industries. The main feature of this agreement is cooperation on policies to promote
modern agriculture and organic farming to increase bilateral trade in organic
agricultural products.
 It also aims to increase the exchange of policies to promote organic agricultural
production in both countries. The objective is to identify contributions to improve
agricultural science and innovation among academic institutions in India and Chile
and enhance collaboration to address common challenges.
 Under this agreement, a Chile-India Agricultural Working Group will be established. It
is responsible for monitoring, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of this
Agreement as well as establishing continuous communication and cooperation.

Central Cabinet approves Eruchimiku Gramam scheme with Rs 4800 crore allocation
 The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved
the “Residential Villages Project” which is being implemented with the financial
assistance of the Central Government. A fund of Rs.4800 crore has been earmarked
for this scheme from 2022-23 to 2025-26.
 It will provide quality of life to the people living in the identified border villages and
help in the integrated development of the northern border areas and villages. This
will encourage residents to stay in the border villages as they are being developed
rather than moving out. And security will be enhanced for these villages.
 It aims to create livelihood and develop necessary infrastructure for people in 46
border areas, 19 districts belonging to one union territory of 4 states in the northern
part of the country. Funds will be allocated under this scheme. In the first phase, 663
villages have been taken up for implementation of the scheme.
 Emergent Village Action Plans will be developed by the District Administration with
the help of Gram Panchayats. This will ensure 100 percent full implementation of
central and state schemes.
 The scheme does not go along with the Border Area Development Scheme. Out of
the Rs 4800 crore allocation, Rs 2500 crore will be spent on roads.

deepen its activities to the grassroots level

approved measures to strengthen the cooperative movement in the country and

 The Ministry of Cooperatives under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri
Narendra Modi and the able guidance of Union Home and Cooperatives Minister Shri
Amit Shah has formulated a plan to set up Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies
in underserved rural areas.
 Plans have been made to establish milk producer cooperative societies in panchayats
where there are no societies, fishermen cooperative societies in coastal villages, and
to strengthen the existing primary agricultural cooperative societies, milk cooperative
societies and fishermen societies.
 In the initial phase, 2 lakh primary agricultural co-operatives, dairy co-operatives and
fishermen co-operatives will be set up in the next five years. A plan to implement this
will be formulated by NABARD Bank National Dairy Development Board and National
Fisheries Board.

 The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved
the Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Chartered Accountants
of India and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.
 This MoU provides for mutual recognition of the qualifications and training of these
institutions and allows membership through the affiliation process on existing terms.
It also allows the parties to this agreement to exchange information on their
educational qualification and admission requirements, continuing professional
development policy, exemptions and other relevant matters.
 Collaboration with these organizations will provide Indian Chartered Accountants
with maximum career opportunities in the UK as well as global career opportunities
in the UK.
Union Cabinet approves extension of tenure of 22nd Law Commission
 Legislation is usually framed at regular intervals to advise the Union Government on
legislative issues and legal reforms.
 After a gap of about 4 years, the 22nd Law Commission was formed in 2022. Its
tenure ended on the 20th.

extension of the tenure of the 22nd Law Commission till August 31 next year. Retired

Union Cabinet approves Air Services Agreement between India and Guyana
 The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the
signing of the Air Services Agreement between the Government of India and the
Government of Guyana. This Agreement shall come into force upon the exchange of
consular notifications of the completion of the procedures relating to this
Agreement.
 According to the 2012 census, 40 percent of Guyana's population is Indian. The
agreement will pave the way for an air service program between the two countries.
Due to developments in the aviation market and liberalization of the aviation
industry in India, Air Service Agreements are being signed with various countries to
establish international air connectivity.
 Currently no Air Services Agreement has been signed between the Governments of
India and Guyana.
 The new Air Services Agreement between India and Guyana will provide business
opportunities for bilateral flights and create an environment for enhanced and
seamless connectivity.

Union Cabinet approval to ratify three Protocols Article 3 BIS, Article 50(a) and Article 56
of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation Agreement 1944
 The Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation Agreement 1944 was
approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to
ratify the three protocols Article 3 BIS, Article 50 (A) and Article 56.
 Sections defined in the Chicago Convention outline the obligations and priorities of
the countries concerned. In addition, the normative clauses of the Chicago
Convention encourage compliance with the standards and recommended standard
practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
 Over the past 78 years, the Chicago Convention treaty clauses have undergone
several revisions. India ratifies these amendments from time to time. At present, the
amendments to the following clauses have been approved in the Treaty resolution of
the Chicago Conference.
 Protocol to Add Article 3bis to the Chicago Convention Treaty 1944 addresses the
prohibition of the use of weapons against civilian aircraft by member states. (It was
signed in May 1984)
 The Protocol addresses the amendment of Article 50(a) of the 1944 Chicago
Convention to increase the strength of the International Aviation Organization (ICAO)
from 36 to 40. (It was signed in October 2016)

'Param Visisht Seva' Award to Air Force Officer
 On the Republic Day of the country, the President's highest Param Visisht Seva Award
is given annually to those who have excelled in the three services of the Army, Navy
and Air Force.
 According to this, Air Marshal Krishnasamy Anantharaman from Tamil Nadu, who is
looking after the administrative responsibility of the Air Force Headquarters in Delhi,
was awarded the Param Visisht Seva Award. He joined the Air Force on June 14,
1985.
Ricky Cage is the first Indian to win 3 Grammy Awards
 The 65th Grammy Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles, USA. The award is
presented annually to outstanding pop-rock classical music artists. In the award
ceremony that started yesterday, the famous musician and producer from Bengaluru,
Ricky Cage, has been awarded the Grammy Award for the third time.
 He got this award for the song collection Divine Tides published by him. Last year too

NTPC wins 'Best ATT Award' for 6th consecutive year
 National Electric Power Corporation (NTPC), the country's power generation
company, has been awarded the Best ATT Award by the Association for Capacity
Development (ATT) in the United States.
 This is the 6th time that NTPC has received this award for its successful performance
in the Skill Development category. The award is given to small and large private,
government and charitable organizations around the world.
 The Association for Skill Development in the United States is the largest association in
the world. The ATT Excellence Award is a much-loved award in recognition of
teaching and development.
NatGeo Photo Contest Winner of Indian Origin
 US-based National Geographic publishes geography, wildlife and environmental
magazines and TV. A photography competition is conducted annually on behalf of
this magazine. The competition is conducted in various categories like Nature,
People, Places, Animals. Indian-origin software engineer Karthik Subramaniam won
the award for his photographs titled 'Dance of the Eagles'.
 Out of a total of 5,000 submissions, Karthik's photo was chosen as the best photo of
the year. His photograph of the Silakat Eagle Sanctuary in Alaska, USA won the
award. Karthik Subramaniam's photographs have been published in the May issue of
'National Geographic'
APPOINTMENT
The central government approved the appointment of 5 Supreme Court judges
 The total number of Judges allowed in the Supreme Court including the Chief Justice
is 34. But, currently the Supreme Court is functioning with 27 judges. A large number
of cases could not be heard due to shortage of judges.
 In this case, the collegium headed by Chief Justice Chandra Soot was recommended
on December 13 to appoint 5 judges as Supreme Court judges. Thereafter, on
January 31, the collegium recommended the appointment of Allahabad High Court
Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Arvind Kumar as
Supreme Court judges.
 But for the past 2 months, the central government has been dragging its feet without
appointing the nominees to the Supreme Court.
 During the hearing a few days ago, Supreme Court Justices SK Kaul and AS Oka asked
Attorney General R. Venkatramani about the status of the collegium
recommendations.
 Subsequently, the central government approved the appointment of Rajasthan High
Court Chief Justice Pankaj Mittal, Patna High Court Chief Justice Ranjay Karol,
Manipur High Court Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court Justice
Asanuddin Amanullah and Allahabad High Court Justice Manoj Mishra. President
Drabupati Murmu approved it yesterday. After that, all 5 people will take office as
judges.

Appointment of Supreme Court Judges
 Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Rajesh Pintal and Gujarat High Court Chief Justice
Arvind Kumar have been appointed as Supreme Court judges. After consultation with
the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the President approved the appointment of
these judges as judges of the Supreme Court.
Appointment of governors for 13 states
 President Draupadi Murmu appointed new governors for 13 states including Andhra
Pradesh and Jharkhand. 6 of them were newly appointed. 7 Governors have been
transferred to other states. Senior Tamil Nadu BJP leader CP Radhakrishnan has been
appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand.
 Bhagat Singh Koshyari, who was the Governor of Maharashtra, was embroiled in
various controversies due to his comments. Bhagatsingh Koshyari met Prime Minister
Modi last month and announced his resignation as governor. His resignation was
accepted by the President. In this case, Ramesh Payas, who was the Governor of
Jharkhand, has been appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra.
 Former Tamil Nadu BJP President CP Radhakrishnan has been appointed as the
Governor of Jharkhand. He has been a BJP MP for 2 times. He has also been the
President of the National Ropes Board.
 Senior BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh Lashman Prasad Acharya has been appointed as
the new Governor of Sikkim. Another senior BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh, Shiv
Pratap Shukla, has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, while Gulab
Chand Kataria, a senior BJP leader from Rajasthan, has been appointed as the
Governor of Assam.
 Viswabhushan Harishandan, who was the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, has been
appointed as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. Anusuya Uikke, who was the Governor of
Chhattisgarh, has been appointed as the Governor of Manipur. L. Ganesan, who was
the Governor of Manipur, has been appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.
 The President accepted the resignation of Radhakrishna Mathur, who was the
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Brigadier Dr. PT Misra, who was the Governor of
Arunachal Pradesh, has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Retired Army officer Lieutenant General Kaivalyatrivikram Barnaik has been
appointed as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.
 Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who was the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, has been
appointed as the Governor of Bihar. Bahu Chauhan, who was the Governor of Bihar,
has been appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya.

 Indian-origin Neil Mohan has been appointed as YouTube's Chief Executive Officer
(CEO). Susan (54), who served as its chief executive officer for 9 years, has resigned
from her position due to health reasons.
PVR Subramaniam is the new CIO of NITI Aayog
 PVR Subramaniam IAS has been appointed as the new CIO of Niti Aayog.
Parameswaran Iyer was appointed as Nitiayog CO on 24th June 2022.

Lakshmi Narayanan appointed as Madras High Court judge
 Six additional judges were recently appointed to the Madras High Court. Currently,
Chennai-based lawyer Lakshmi Narayanan has also been appointed as an additional
judge.
 He was born in October 1970. His father was RS Venkatachari. He completed his
schooling from MCT Muthiah Chettiar High School and his law studies from the
National Law School, Bangalore. Registered as Advocate in 1995.
Ajay Bank appointed as World Bank President
 US President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that Indian-origin Ajay Banka will be
appointed as the President of the World Bank.
 If the World Bank directors confirm Ajay Banka's appointment, Ajay Banka will
become the first Indian-origin Sikh to head the World Bank. 63-year-old Ajay Banka is
currently the vice-chairman of General Atlantic Finance.
Appointment of Dr. Prashant Lavania as Madurai AIMS Chairman
 In February 2015, the central government announced the construction of an AIIMS
hospital in Madurai. For this a place was chosen at Dhopur. On January 27, 2019,
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for AIIMS Madurai Hospital,
which will be built on 200 acres at a cost of Rs.1,264 crore.
 Senior neurologist Nagarajan Venkataraman was appointed as the head of AIIMS in
September last year. He passed away recently due to ill health.
 In this case, the central government has appointed Dr. Prashant Lavania as the new
head of AIIMS Madurai Hospital. He is working as a professor at Sarojini Naidu

 M.Venkatesan from Tamil Nadu is the Chairman of National Sanitation Workers
Commission. He has been in this position since February 2021. Venkatesan has been

MoU with Engineers India to develop waste-to-power plants
 The Union Finance Minister, Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Budget 2023-
2024 with seven priorities of Saptarishi to guide the era of Amrita. In the 'green

growth' segment, 500 new waste-to-wealth plants have been set up under the
Gopardhan scheme to promote circular economy.

community and cluster-based plants. Its total investment will be Rs.10,000 crore.
 Green Growth' has in part signed an MoU with the Union Ministry of Housing and
Urban Affairs, Engineers India.The MoU envisages implementation of the project to
generate electricity from cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs.

MoU for Development of National Digital Approach by Union Ministry of Agriculture and
Farmers Welfare
 The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare has signed an MoU to
develop a national-level digital approach with private participation to achieve the
Green India goal. The MoU also envisages setting up a digital library to provide online
certificate training through the disciplines of agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture,
animal husbandry and rural livelihoods.
Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Investigation and National University of
Forensic Science sign MoU for setting up Digital (Electronic) Forensic Science Laboratory
 The Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Investigation and the National
Forensic Science University have signed an MoU for setting up a digital (electronic)
forensic science laboratory. The agreement also provides for the exchange of related
intellectual information, improved technical information and capacity building.
 The agreement was signed by Surjit Bhujapal, Principal Director General, Goods and
Services Tax Investigation and Dr. JM Vyas, Vice-Chancellor, National University of
Forensic Sciences.
 The agreement envisages improving technology in obtaining information on tax
evaders and providing intelligence to law enforcement agencies to expedite action
against them. As per this MoU, both the organizations have agreed to jointly carry
out research and training programs related to forensic investigation and provide
technical assistance to each other.
Air India has signed an agreement to buy 250 Airbus aircraft from the French company
 Air India, which was operating as a public sector company, was acquired by the Tata
Group in 2022. Following this, Tata Group, which is developing Air India's operations,
is buying 250 aircraft from Airbus. The agreement was signed.

Water Authority and IIT, Roorkee
 The Central Water Authority of Water Resources, Rivers Development and Ganga
Rejuvenation of Ministry of Jal Shakti has signed MoU for Development of
International Center of Excellence for Dams under Renovation and Development
Program (TRIP) and third phases.

provides for provision of specialized technical support such as study, research and

at local, regional, national and international levels.
 Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganges Rehabilitation,
Ministry of Water Power, Government of India with financial assistance of Rs. The
center is being established at a cost of 109 crores.
 The Roorkee Indian Institute of Technology aims to achieve self-sufficiency within 10
years by generating income through knowledge and skills related to dam safety
acquired in the areas of dam protection and renovation, water reservoir
sedimentation and seismic hazard mapping and analysis.
Coastal Defence: MoU between Information Collection Centre- Indian Ocean Region,
Regional Joint Operations Centre
 An MoU has been signed between the Information Collection Center - Indian Ocean
Region, Regional Joint Operations Center in Seychelles to intensify coastal security
operations. This will result in improved activities such as coastal awareness,
information sharing and development of sectoral expert participation between the
two centres.
 The Center for Joint Operations in the Indian Ocean under the Indian Navy was
inaugurated by the Center on 22nd December 2018 at Gurugram. The coastal
defense framework implemented by the Indian Ocean Authority will be jointly
implemented by the Regional Joint Action Center and the National Centers of the 7
countries empowered in this regard.
MoU between CSC Academy, National Corporation of Electronics and Information
Technology
 An MoU was signed between CSC Academy-National Institute of Electronics and
Information Technology to promote digital literacy and skill development in India.
 The MoU was signed to create a long-term partnership between the two
organizations to jointly implement initiatives to improve digital literacy and create
employment opportunities for Indian youth.
 Under this agreement, training and design are to be done in the areas of capacity
building, accreditation, virtual academy, trainers development programme, digital
and financial content entrepreneurship development, content and certifications,
mutual partners and mechanisms to support NGOs.

 An MoU between Indian Maritime University, IIT Chennai on maritime education and
research development was signed today (27.02.2023) at Uthandi, Chennai.
 Its main objective is to participate in initiatives related to Indian Ocean Policy/Vision

G20 summit begins in Guwahati, Assam
 India assumed the presidency of the G20 organization on December 1. According to

conference in Guwahati, Assam. 100 people including 95 foreign representatives
from the G20 organization participated in this.
The first meeting of the G20 Employment Working Group is underway in Jodhpur
 Under the leadership of G20 India, the first Employment Working Group Meeting
2023 will be held in Jodhpur from February 2 to 4. Labor, employment and social

competencies and establishing a framework for common skill categories. Members
shared their views on key issues including global skills gaps.

First meeting of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors under India's G20
Chairmanship
 Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the first meeting of Finance
Ministers and Central Bank Governors under India's G20 leadership via video.
Speaking then, the Prime Minister pointed out the challenges facing the world today
and said, 'While the world is facing adverse economic conditions, the participants of
the meeting are representative of the global financial and economic leadership.
 The coronavirus pandemic and its impacts on the global economy, escalating geo-
political events, disruptions in global supply chains, price inflation, food and energy
security, and many other factors, have placed the world's leading economies and
financial systems on guard.
 There is high expectation among Indian consumers and producers about the future of
the country's economy. Members should focus discussions on the most vulnerable
populations globally.
 Only by developing an inclusive program can the world's confidence and
international economic leadership be restored. The theme of India's G20 leadership
promotes the vision of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'. "Even as the world's
population crosses 8 billion, progress on the Sustainable Development Goals

 Talking about the new system developed during India's ongoing G20 leadership, he

Indigenization Conference 23 (AIIC-23)
 The Annual Restructuring Conference 23 and the Annual Infrastructure and
Indigenization Conference 23 were held on February 23 and 24 at the Indian Navy's
Eastern Naval Command Headquarters, Visakhapatnam.

 The conference was chaired by Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani. Restructuring plans,

 During the AIIC meeting, the progress of various technological and marine
infrastructure projects was reviewed. Satisfaction was expressed over the pace of
technical infrastructure projects aimed at improving repair and overhaul facilities in
the Indian Navy.
 Also, various offshore infrastructure projects, including creating additional space for
future platforms planned to be absorbed over the next 15 years, were reviewed
during the meeting.
 A special session on Indigenization was also held during the conference in line with
the Central Government's Self-Reliance India Initiative. The conference was attended
by representatives of various organizations of the Indian Navy.
