Phase I: Development of Plans/Ideas


Deadline: February 17, 2022, 23:59 IST Full Marks: 10

Overview
A list of projects are given in this LINK. Please choose a project of your choice latest by
January 23, 2022, 23:59 IST in this SHEET. You can not update this sheet after this
deadline, but before this deadline you can update this sheet multiple times. That means you can
change your mind multiple times before the deadline of project selection, but you cannot do this
after the deadline.

The title, problem statement, data and tasks of each project are mentioned in the given LINK.
Develop some plans or ideas (may be rough ideas) to solve the given problems in Phase I by the
given deadline. You have to make a 5 minutes presentation to explain your thoughts followed by
discussion with the mentors in a given slot, if needed. The individual presentation slots will be
announced later and it will be fixed certainly after Phase I deadline. Moreover, you have to submit a
report following the guidelines below.

Submission Guidelines
Write a report to describe your plans to address the problem statement(s). The report should be
written in 250 words in 11 pt font size in the given latex template. The latex template is uploaded
in the Google classroom. Take the help of the teaching assistants in case of difficulties with latex.
Do not upload compressed files e.g., zip/rar files. The filename of the report must follow this format:
firstname lastname report.pdf e.g., xxx yyy report.pdf. The report must be submitted in PDF
with the following information.

• Title: A suitable title is needed based on the plan/idea and the given tasks. However, yo u
can change this title during final submission of the project report after this report submission.

• Student Details: This part must come after the title with the following information:

Name: XXX YYY


Registration No./Roll No.: 12345
Institute/University Name: IISER Bhopal
Program/Stream: e.g., DSE
Problem Release date: January 19, 2022
Date of Submission: The date you submitted

• Plans: Write your plans or thoughts to address the tasks given. Note that you can change
these preliminary plans in the next phase with proper justifications.

Other Relevant Information
• Deadline of this submission is February 17, 2022, 23:59 IST.

• Multiple submissions are allowed within this deadline, but only the last submission will be
graded. You must upload the report in the Google classroom. In case of any technical difficulty
to upload it to Google classroom, you may send it to tanmay@iiserb.ac.in.

• For every half an hour that your submission is late your score gets multiplied by
0.8 till it becomes 0.

Phase II: Final Version


Deadline: April 24, 2022, 23:59 IST Full Marks: 20

Overview
Improve the preliminary plans or ideas you developed in Phase 1 to solve the given problems by the
given deadline. You may have to make a 5 minutes presentation to explain your thoughts followed
by questions and answers with the mentors in a given slot. The presentation slot will be announced
later and it will be fixed certainly after Phase II deadline at your convenience. Moreover, you have
to submit a report following the guidelines below.

Submission Guidelines
Write a report to describe your plans and actions to address the problem statement(s). The report
should not be more than 4 pages long in 11 pt font size in the given latex template. The latex
template is uploaded in the Google classroom. Take the help of the teaching assistants in case of
difficulties with latex. Do not upload compressed files e.g., zip/rar files. Upload different files
individually. Each filename must follow this format: firstname lastname filetype.extension e.g.,
xxx yyy report.pdf or xxx yyy code.py. You must submit the executable code(s) in a
separate file along with the report. You may also share the link of the Jupyter or other such
Notebooks. Moreover, upload your code(s) and report to your Github account and share the link in
the report. Do not upload the dataset used for the given project over Github. You may
use any platform of your choice for coding. The report must be submitted in PDF with the following
information.

• Title: A suitable title is needed based on the proposed framework and the given task(s).

• Student Details: This part must come after the title with the following information:

• Introduction: This section should address the background of the work in brief and the
description of the given data set. You may mention relevant papers here, if any.

• Methods: Explain the proposed method(s) here in detail. Note that an effective and
novel framework is expected. The proposed framework must be written step by step in
pseudo-code format and it must be explained in simple sentences along with the pseudo-code.
However, if you have used only the existing methods and can not propose anything new then a
rigorous experimental evaluation in terms of the state of the arts are needed. Include the
link of the Github page of the project in this section.

• Experimental Analysis: Report the performance of the proposed method(s) on the given
dataset in terms of macro-averaged precision, recall, f-measure for a classification problem, or
normalized mutual information, f-measure for a unsupervised problem or mean-squared error
for a regression problem. Describe your observations from different results. You must provide
the results of the state of the arts for the given problem(s).

• Discussions: Describe the merits, limitations and future scopes of the proposed method or
framework developed. Explain your opinions or thoughts about this work e.g., if the work can
be extended or it can be used for other applications. You must report the significant findings
of this work and scopes of future works, if any.
