1.1 function

There are 4 types of relation (有-)

-one-to- one relation
-one-to- many relation
-many –to -one relation
-many -to- many relation

Just 1 to 1 &many to one relation is the function

We can use vertical line text to determine the relation is function or not .直线的，比如说
x =2,只碰到一个点就是 function.

Domain, Range, Codomain

Examples:
Set a ={1,4,9,16,25}
Set b ={1,2,3,4,5}

Function : y=√ x

So ,domain ={1,4,9,16,25} and range ={1,2,3,4,5}

Range ⃀ codomain

Order pairs：（用一样的例子）
= {(1,1),(4,2),(9,3),(16,4),(25,5)}

f(x)=√ x & f:x→ √ x 是一样的，but answer in f(x)=√ x

Algebra operation on function

Compostite function
If f:x→y ,and g:y→ z

我们就能直接建立一个新的 function 来 直接点明 x 和 Z 的关系。

那就是 g∙f, g∙ f ( x )=g :f ( x)

R : real number
Z : integer

Q : rational number

Domain of composite function

Example: f:x=5x ,g:x=2x
Find f g(x):

 If range of g(x)⊆domain of g(x) ,then f g(x) exist

 If exist ,then domain for f g(x) is = domain of g(x)
 If not exist 就要做 restricted

如何 restricted?

1) 确认 range of g(x)(新的 range) 是= range of g(x) ∩domain of f(x) （两个重复的地

方）
2) 然后，画 g(x)的 graph
3) 根据 g(x)的 range ,然后用 graph 找出 domain , 这个 domain 就是 domain of f g(x).

Range of composite function

用回以上的例子，要找 f g(x),

1) 先找 fg(x)
2) 如果能画 graph ,就能直接找 range of f g(x) ,based on domain of g(x) 或者 restricted
后的 domain 直接找 range .
3) But ,if cannot draw graph of f g(x) ,就要用新办法：formula of this is
new domain of f(x) is =
