Introduction to the Touchstone testing program
The Touchstone testing program contains quizzes and tests
for you to assess the progress of your students. You can use
all these quizzes and tests right away, or you can use the
Microsoft Word versions provided to customize the quizzes
and tests to suit your needs.
Two kinds of assessment
The Touchstone testing program offers comprehensive
quizzes and tests, giving you options for how you want to
test your students. There are two types of quizzes and tests.
• Written
Students complete a range of tasks (including listening
and reading tasks) that cover the grammar, vocabulary,
and conversation strategies they have been learning.
Teachers score the tests using the answer keys provided.
• Oral
Students ask each other discussion questions on the topics
from the units with a focus on the conversation strategies
they have been learning. Teachers assess their performance
following suggested criteria and by using the sample
answers provided.

The difference between quizzes and tests
• Quizzes can be used after each unit. There is one written
and one oral quiz for each unit.
• Tests can be used for midterms and end-of-book assessment.
There is one written and one oral test for Units 1–6, for
Units 7–12, and for Units 1–12.
Using the quizzes and tests
• The Touchstone testing program lets you choose the best
way to use the quizzes and tests to suit your teaching
situation. For example, you may want to give both the
written and oral quizzes after each unit, or you may want
to use the written quizzes as homework.
• From this CD-ROM, you can either print out PDFs or
customize and print out Microsoft Word versions of all
quizzes and tests. There are also answer keys and audio
scripts included on the CD-ROM.
