The Skeletal system

 the skeleton is made out of 206 bones in difference size and shapes.
 Serves as a framework

TYPES of BONES
 long bones – leg and arm bones
 Short bones – risk and uncle
 Flat bones - protect internal/external organs (ribs, sternum, fatela)
 Irregular bones – spinal column

BONES IN THE BODY

 Skull -
 Mandible – responsible for chowing motion, it is the largest and strongest bone in the face
 Zygomatic – cheeckbone
 Nasal – bridge of nose (protect our nasal cavity)
 Ribs – protect our heart and lungs from injury
 Sternum – breast bone
 Vertebral column – backbone, spinal bone (protects our spinal column)
 Humerus – long bone in the upper extremity (shoulder to elbow)
 Scapula – shoulder blade (clavicle)
 Patella – knee cup (project our knee joints)
 Femur – longest and strongest bone in the body. (Thigh bone)
 Clavicle – collar bone
 Tibia – inside bone (bigger that fibula, second longest bone)
 Fibula – outside bone (helps the foot to retake)

MASCULAR SYSTEM
 There are about 650 muscles in the human body
 Movement, maintenance of posture, production of body heat and muscle help give our body its
shape.

types of muscles
 Skeletal muscles – responsible of movement of mobility. most common muscles in the body.
Sustain our body posture and position
 Smooth muscles – located in stomach (it helps with the digestion and nutrients collection)
 Cardiac muscles – responsible of contractibility of the heart

MUSCLE CONTRACTION
 Isotonic – contract – shorten, movement
concentric – contraction -shorten, movement produced
eccentric - lengthen, movement produced
 Isometric – contract -muscles do not shorten, no movement
SKELETAL MUSCLES
Muscles of the neck
 Sternocleidomastoid - Responsible side to side movement of head

MUSCLES OF THE UPPER EXTREMITIES

 Trapezius – largest muscle in the back
 Deltoid – injection side
 Pectoralis major – largest muscle of the anterior chest wall
 Biceps – responsible of flexion
 Triceps – extension of the elbow joint
 Diaphragm - responsible for breathing action
 Gluteus maximus - largest muscle in the human body,
o Botox muscle
 Gastrocnemius – calp muscle
 Quadriceps – thigh muscle
 Hamstring – back thigh

ROLE OF MUSCLES
 Movers or agonist – produce movement
 Antagonist – relax muscle, opposite movement from that of the movers (tricepts)
 Agonist – produced movement
