COURSE SYLLABUS

Course Code: Engl 111 Course Title: Purposive Communication

No. of Units: 3 Units Pre-requisite/C-requisite: None Total No. of Hours: 54 hours


Course Description:
Purposive Communication is about writing, speaking and presenting to different audiences and for various purposes. Specifically, this 3-unit course seeks to develop
student’s communicative competence and enhance cultural and intercultural awareness through multimodal tasks that provide them opportunities for communicating effectively
and appropriately to a multicultural audience in a local or global context. It equips students with tools for critical evaluation of a variety of texts and focuses on the power of
language and the impact of images to emphasize the importance of conveying messages responsibly. The knowledge, skills, and insights that students gain from this course
may be used in their other academic endeavors, their chosen disciplines, and their future careers as they compose and produce relevant oral, written, audio-visual and/or web-
based output for various purposes.
Course Learning Outcomes
Having completed the course, the students are anticipated to meet the following outcomes:

LO2- Explain how cultural and global issues affect communication.
LO3 -Determine culturally appropriately terms, expressions, and images.

LO5 - Summarize the principles of academic text structure.

CLASS POLICIES UNDER THE NEW NORMAL Grading System

8. All course activities are to be conducted online. Submission of course assignments and
term requirements should be submitted on time to caduran.coed@gmail.com
9. All recorded videos and other e-copy outputs are to be submitted to the official Facebook
group page of the Course.
10. Username of your social media accounts like Facebook and Messenger must be your real
complete name. No pseudonyms, no aliases, no codenames.
11. Above all, your safety and health are our concern. When visiting the campus, always
