Means of
Transportation

Part 2
Script
Scene 1

You: Excuse me, can you help me?

Kiosk attendant: Yeah, what can I help you with?

You: What’s the difference between these two machines?

Kiosk attendant: The smaller ones on the right only take credit and debit cards.

These larger ones accept cards and cash.

You: Ah, okay.. I see. And how do I buy a ticket?

Kiosk attendant: I’ll walk you through it. How are you gonna pay?

You: With cash.

Kiosk attendant: Okay, so let’s go over there. So, first you need to press the button

and choose the language you want to use. Let’s just use English since I’m here with

you.

You: Okay, so I’ll press this button… English.

Kiosk attendant: Good, okay and you have three choices here. Do you already

have a MetroCard?

You: No, I don’t.

Kiosk attendant: Okay, so which type of MetroCard do you want?

You: What is a fast nine?

Kiosk attendant: That’s just so you can quickly buy a card with only 9 dollars on it.

The SingleRide here is just for one ride. But if you want more options, push on the

MetroCard button.

You: Let’s see all the options. Mmm.. MetroCard..

Kiosk attendant: That’s good. Okay, now you see you need to purchase a new
card.

You: What does a “1 dollar fee” mean?

Kiosk attendant: Oh, the card itself costs U$1. You can refill it after that. Okay, now

you see you have two options here, regular or unlimited.

You: What’s the difference?

Kiosk attendant: A regular card is like a pay-as-you-go system. The unlimited

gives you as many rides as you want within a certain number of days. See here? You

can pay for 7 days, 30 days etc..No per ride, not per day. What do you think?

You: How much is one single metro ride?

Kiosk attendant: U$2.75

You: I’ll do the regular then. And I think just U$5.50 is okay for now. I have to pay

U$0.28 more?

Kiosk attendant: No, that’s a bonus. That's like free money.

You: Got it!

Kiosk attendant: Okay, so now just choose how you are gonna pay.

You: Right. Cash. But I thought it was $5.50? Why $6.50?

Kiosk attendant: Remember it’s $1 for the new card. But you only have to pay that

once.

You: Okay. So, the cash goes where? Oh.. I see it.

Kiosk attendant: Great! Don’t forget your change and receipt. You’re good to go.

You: Thank you for your help.

Kiosk attendant: No problem, have a good ride.

Stand clean of the closing doors, please!
