Prescribed Dress Code and Good Grooming for

Students by Student Affairs Office


Implementation – August 22, 2023 onwards

 Official CMU Uniform

 Civilian Attire

On occasions when students are allowed to wear civilian attire, it is expected that they conform
to the standards of propriety and decency. Micro-mini skirts (more than 3 inches from the
kneecap), short shorts, cycling pants, tube, sleeveless, plunging neckline blouses, see – through
blouses, halter tops, backless tops, tank tops, leggings, sandos, sleeveless jerseys, and slippers
are considered inappropriate campus attire. Cross dressing or wearing the clothes of the opposite
sex is not prohibited (applicable for LGBTQIA+ members)

Thus, the following guidelines on campus attire form part of a student’s holistic CMU Students
educational experience. Campus attire should be decent and modest. Some extremes are not
acceptable, which include:

For Women

TOPS

● tube tops with bolero / blazer / cardigan / jacket are not allowed.

● backless blouses /shirts with bolero / blazer / cardigan / jacket are not allowed.

● spaghetti straps with bolero / blazer / cardigan / jacket are not allowed.

● sleeveless tops with large and loose armholes with bolero / blazer / cardigan / jacket are
not allowed.

● cleavage – baring tops with bolero / blazer / cardigan / jacket are not allowed.

● see – through tops where the undergarment can be seen with bolero / blazer / cardigan /
jacket are not allowed.

● cropped tops and hanging blouse (evidently showing the midsection while standing or
walking) with bolero / blazer / cardigan / jacket are not allowed.

● hip – hop clothing

BOTTOMS

● bottoms where the undergarment can be seen (e.g., low – waist or see – through)

● sports, P.E. and athletic shorts inside classrooms / CMU Hall / etc.

● pants with holes / ripped jeans


● shorts and skirts with hemline above the students’ longest finger in standing upright
position

 Slit skirt and slit pants with 6-22 inches is not allowed.

 Skirt Length fall right at the legs.

DRESSES

● see through dresses without anything covering the undergarment

 Good Grooming

Hair Style/Color

Male and female students are required to have a clean decent haircut. Unnatural colors, extreme
coloring, or streaks and patches of color are not allowed. No lines cut into hair, ponytail or
clipped hair is not allowed for male students. Mohawk, zigzag and punk hairstyles are to be
avoided. Here are acceptable, which include:

For Women – Hairstyle (applicable for LGBTQIA+ members)

Any decent hairstyles.

Here are examples of hair colors that are not allowed for both male and female students inside
the University.

Tattoo / Body Piercing / Earrings

Tattoos should be hidden under any clothing; unusual body piercing are strictly prohibited. Male
and female students are not allowed to wear multiple piercings.

Jewelry
No dangling earrings; excessive jewelry; accessories, and adornments in the wrist, nose, lip, and
ankle

Make – up
Heavy make-up is not allowed inside the University. Light make-up will do. Some extremes are
not acceptable, which include: (This is also applicable for the members of LGBTQIA+
members)
