Troubleshooting Guide for all Single Engine Internally Regulated Alternators

Check and record voltage of Aircraft Bus AIRCRAFT BUS

Record Aircraft
Bus Voltage: D
YES Check for Bus voltage at Alternator field F FIELD/
ALTERNATOR
CIRCUIT BREAKER 1 AMP
ALTERNATOR FUSE/CIRUIT
OUTPUT CIRUIT C BREAKER
NO BREAKER
B
NOTE Perform all tests with: E
ALTERNATOR
Check for Bus voltage at point A YES
1. ALTERNATOR SWITCH on SWITCH

2. Master Switch on A
Replace wire or connectors from
3. Engine off NO Regulator ENABLE to point A
B+ FIELD (RED)
LAMP WIRE (WHITE)
OUTPUT
4. Magnetos turned off or grounded
Check for Bus voltage at point B YES

ALTERNATOR
NO Replace ALTERNATOR SWITCH
With Alternator field plug properly ALTERNATOR
connected, voltage from Alternator field INOPERATIVE
LAMP
through point ‘D’ should be equal to the Check for Bus voltage at point C YES
Aircraft Bus if the system is operating
correctly.
Replace wire or connectors
NO from point B to point C
With Alternator field plug disconnected,
readings from Alternator field wire
through ‘D’ should be Bus Voltage if
properly wired. Check for Bus voltage at point D YES

Detective or tripped circuit


NO breaker. Replace if defective

Defective wire or connection to Bus

Check for Bus voltage at Alternator B+ OUTPUT YES

NO

Check for Bus voltage at point E YES

NO Replace wire or connection

Check for Bus voltage at point F YES

NO
Defective or tripped circuit
