METHODOLOGY
A.RESEARCH DESIGN
For the realization of the aims of this study, survey design was utilized. Survey design
refers to a procedure in which researchers administer a survey to a sample or the entire population
of people in order to describe the opinions, attitudes, behaviors and characteristics of the population.
This design is appropriate in the study because the study intends to deepen our understanding on the
effectiveness of gymnasium facilities in promoting physical activity and reducing sedentary
behaviors among students of Our Lady of the Pillar College- San Manuel Incorporation.
B.Research Environment
The locale of this study is at Our Lady of Pillar College San Manuel Inc. This study
will cover the one hundred (100) students of Our Lady of the Pillar College- San Manuel
Incorporation, who are currently enrolled during the second semester of School Year 2022-2023. The
participants who will participate in the study will be selected randomly.
Sampling:
The sampling technique used in this study is simple random sampling. This is a type of
probability sampling method in which every member of the population has an equal chance of being
selected for the sample. This method helps to ensure that the sample is representative of the
population and reduces the risk of bias.
D.RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
In this study, the researchers will conduct a face-to-face interview with a questionnaire. A
structured interview is a type of qualitative interview that makes use of a standardized sequence of
questions in order to gather relevant information about the research study. In this structured interview,
the researchers create a set of interview questions in advance, and the questions are asked in the same
order so that responses can easily be placed in similar categories. Therefore, in this research study, the
researcher used a face-to-face structured interview with a questionnaire to collect detailed information to
seek solutions to the research problems and meet the research objectives.
E. GATHERING PROCEDURE
Define the research question: The first step is to clearly define the research question. In this case,
the research question is, "What is the effectiveness of gymnasium facilities in promoting
physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior among students?"
Conduct a literature review: A literature review should be conducted to understand the current
state of research on the topic. This will involve searching for relevant studies in academic
databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The review should include studies that
have examined the effectiveness of gymnasium facilities in promoting physical activity and
reducing sedentary behavior among students.
Develop a research design: The research design should be developed based on the research
question and the findings of the literature review. In this case, a quantitative research design can
be used to measure the effectiveness of gymnasium facilities. The research design should include
the following:
Participants: The participants should be students from a specific age range and demographic.
Measures: The measures should include physical activity levels and sedentary behavior, which
can be assessed using validated tools, such as accelerometers and questionnaires.
Intervention: The intervention should be the use of gymnasium facilities, which can be promoted
through educational sessions, incentives, and other strategies.
Control group: A control group should be included to compare the effectiveness of the
gymnasium facilities with no intervention.
Recruit participants: Participants should be recruited based on the inclusion and exclusion
criteria defined in the research design. Participants should be informed about the purpose of the
study and should provide informed consent.
Collect data: Data collection should be done using the measures defined in the research design.
This may involve administering questionnaires and providing participants with accelerometers to
wear for a specific period of time.
Analyze data: The data collected should be analyzed using statistical methods, such as t-tests,
ANOVA, and regression analysis. The results should be interpreted in light of the research
question and the findings of the literature review.
Draw conclusions: Based on the results of the data analysis, conclusions should be drawn
regarding the effectiveness of gymnasium facilities in promoting physical activity and reducing
sedentary behavior among students. The implications of the findings should be discussed, and
recommendations for future research and practice should be provided.
