Manipulative Skills
Time Frame: 1 Hour
Prepared by: Monica Tana

I. Objectives
At the end of this lesson students will be able to:
1. identify the manipulative skill activity
2. give importance to manipulative skill by moving positively and safely with
different objects
3. perform various physical activities with different objects.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Manipulative Skills
Material: Ball, balloons, markers
Value Focus: Importance of manipulative skills
Reference: Music, Art, Physical Education, and Health. Pg. 389-396

B. Motivation
Direction: Look at the pictures. Circle the objects
that the children use while playing.
1. How do you move and work with objects in a
game?
2. How do you move your body to be able to move
the object as well?
C. Activities
The teacher will provide balls, balloons and other
stuff that is bouncing. The class will be grouped by
pair upon doing the activity.
Activity 2
Direction: Do the folowing activities that use
different objects.

Balloon Keep Up
The goal is to keep the balloon off the floor. Do not
let it fall. You are going too hit the balloon ussing
the differents parts of your body.
1. Hit the balloon using your head.
2. Hit the balloon using the top of your shouder.
3. Hit the balloon withh your elbows.
4. Hit the ballloon using the top of your knees.
5. Hit the balloon using the top of your foot.
Answer the following with a partner.
a. Were you able to do each movement
easily or did you find it difficult?
b. Which body part did you find easiest to
use to hit the balloon?
c. What do you do to keep the balloon off
the ground.
Hula Hoop Relay
1. The class wil be divided into four equal
groups.
2. Group A and B will each line up at the starting
point facing the other two groups at the end
point.
3. Group A and B will roll the hula hoop towards
the other group on the other side.
4. Each player will pass the hula hoop to the
next player and continue the relay.

Answer the following with a partner:


a. How did you find the activity?
b. Which body part did you use the roll the hula
hoop?
c. What did youu do to have a good control of
the hula hoop?

D. Analysis

Manipulative skills refer to motor skills involving


an object. They are all about making certain
movements to apply force in order to move objects.
These are gross body movements in which force is
imparted to or received from objects. Manipulative
movements such as throwing, catching, kicking,
trapping, striking, volleying, bouncing, and ball
rolling are considered to be fundamental Yes Ma’am.

You can do different movements while carrying or


holding an object. When you move using objects
with hands, feet or body parts, you are doing a
manipulative skill. Sometimes, they are also called
object-control skills. Objects like the jump rope,
balloon, hula hoop, ball, stick and bat are easy to
carry and move around with. Some examples of
manipulative skill are lifting, bouncing, catching,
dribbling and throwing.
You can control the movement of the objects
you play with.
