1. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THE COLONIZERS BROUGHT SCIENCE IN THE


PHILIPPINES?
➔ The colonization of the Philippines contributed to growth of science and technology in
the archipelago and the Spanish introduced formal education and founded scientific
institutions. During the early years of Spanish rule in the Philippines.
2. HOW DID SCIENCE START IN THE COUNTRY?
➔ During the Spanish Regime The beginnings of modern science and technology in the Philippines
can be traced to the Spanish regime. The Spaniards established schools, hospitals and started
scientific research and these had important consequences for the rise of the country's
professions.
3. MAKE A TIMELINE SHOWING THE IMPROVEMENT OF SCIENCE AND
TECHNOLOGY IN THE PHILIPPINES FROM DIFFERENT PERIODS.
➔ Filipinos were already engaging in activities and practices related to science
forming primitive or first wave technology. They were curative values of some
plants on how to extract medicine from herbs. They had an alphabet, a system of
writing, a method of counting and weights and measuring and during the
American period were inclined towards agriculture, food processing, forestry,
medicine and pharmacy. Not much focus was given on the development of
industrial technology due to free trade policy with the United States which
nurtured an economy geared towards agriculture and trade and the modern era
saw the rise of technologies such as reproductive technology, the television,
man-made satellites, personal computers, and many more. However, there is a
specific event that triggered significant technological advancements in medicine
and society.

➔ Science education helps students learn important concepts and facts that are
related to everyday life. Including important skills such as process skills, critical
thinking skills, life skills that are needed in coping up with daily life activities.

It dictates a logical way of approaching unfamiliar topics, ensuring students can


learn how to relate theoretical and practical work. Learning to find the relationship
between theories and empirical evidence holds cognitive benefits, which confer
to other subjects and areas of life.
