Power system Stability

Q.1. A 50 Hz four-pole turbogenerator rated 20 MVA, 13.2 kV has an inertia constant of H = 9.0 kW
sec/kVA. Determine the K.E. stored in the rotor at synchronous speed. Determine the acceleration if
the input less the rotational losses is 25000 HP and the electric power developed is 15000 kW. If the
acceleration computed for the generator is constant for a period of 15 cycles, determine the change in
torque angle in that period and the r.p.m. at the end of 15 cycles. Assume that the generator is
synchronized with a large system and has no accelerating torque before the 15 cycle period begins.

Q.2. In the single machine infinite bus system, The generator is delivering real power of 0.8 p.u. at 0.8
pf lagging to the infinite bus. Find the power angle of the generator.

Q.3. A 500 MW , 21 KV , 50Hz, 3 phase, 2 pole , synchronous generator having rated power factor
0.9 , has a moment of inertia 27.5× 1032. The inertia constant H will be______________.

.
Q.4 The figure shows single line diagram of power system with a double circuit transmission line.
The expression for electrical power is 1.5sin, where δ is the rotor angle. The system is operating at
the stable equilibrium point with mechanical power 1 p.u. If one of the transmission line circuits is
removed, the maximum value of δ, as the rotor swings is 1.221 radian. If the expression for electrical
power with one transmission line circuit removed is . Find the value of
in p.u.
