SERIES
1. A capacitor with C = 2  F and a coil are connected in series. The coil has an inductance of 2.5H and
an ohmic resistance of 120  . This circuit is connected to 24V A.C / 50Hz.
Calculate
a) the impedance
b) the current

2. An inductance of 1 H, a capacitance of 8µF and an ohmic resistance of 100 Ω are connected in series
across an a. c. voltage with a frequency of 50 Hz.Determine the impedance.

3. A series circuit with L = 250mH , R = 80Ω , C = 40µF is connected to a V = 12 volts, 50Hz supply.
Calculate:
a) the impedance
b) the current
c) the individual voltages

4. A 40 μF capacitor in series with a coil of resistance 8𝛺 and inductance 80 mH is connected to a 200 V,


100 Hz supply. Calculate
a) the circuit impedance,
b) the current flowing,
c) the phase angle between voltage and current,
d) the voltage across the inductor
e) the voltage across the capacitor

5. Find the resonant frequency of a series a.c. circuit consisting of a coil of resistance 10 𝛺 and
inductance 50 mH and capacitance 0.05 μF. Find also the current flowing at resonance if the supply
voltage is 100 V.
PARALLEL
1. A coil of resistance 60𝛺 and inductance 318.4 mH is connected in parallel with a 15 μF capacitor
across a 200 V, 50 Hz supply. Calculate:

a) the current in the capacitor,


b) the supply current and its phase angle,
c) the circuit impedance,
d) the power consumed,

2. A 25 nF capacitor is connected in parallel with a coil of resistance 2 kand inductance 0.20 H


across a 100 V, 4 kHz supply. Determine;
a) the current in the capacitor
b) the supply current and its phase angle (by drawing a phasor diagram to scale, and also by
calculation),
c) the circuit impedance
d) The power consumed.

3. An inductance of 0.6H , a capacitor with C = 1.3  F and an ohmic resistance of 220  are connected in
parallel.The circuit is connected across 24V A.C / 50Hz.Calculate

a) the inductive reactive current


b) the capacitive reactive current
c) the total current
d) the impedance

5. A pure inductance of 120 mH is connected in parallel with a 25 μF capacitor and the network is

6. A 0.15 μF capacitor and a pure inductance of 0.01 H are connected in parallel across a 10 V,
variable frequency supply. Determine
(a) the resonant frequency of the circuit
