7.1.6. Scaffolding Works: All scaffolding materials shall be in good condition and installed by a
competent scaffolding team. All scaffolding erection works will be done under the PTW
system. Ensure a full-body harness is provided for working at heights (more than 1.8m).
A scaffold shall only be erected/dismantled/altered by suitably qualified and certified
scaffolders. A scaffold shall be inspected by a competent and certified scaffolding
inspector. No work shall be undertaken on scaffolds without a valid green scaffolding
tag.
7.1.7. Establish the site markups and center lines of the panel installation for the starting point.
Obtain confirmation by the surveyor for all points based on the approved levels, Lines,
and Grids.

7.2. Examination
7.2.1. Examine openings, substrates, structural support, anchorage, and conditions, with
Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other
conditions affecting the performance of Work.
7.2.2. Verify rough opening dimensions, levelness of threshold substrate, and operational
clearances.
7.2.3. Examine all adjacent works are completed and no hindrances are present.
7.2.4. Examine the surface of the substrate, make sure that the surface is free from any
protrusion, and lose materials or dust. This will optimize the bonding of the metal panel
to the substrate.
7.2.5. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

7.3. Fabrication
7.3.1. When actual site measurements have been taken, fabrication of steel structure can
proceed based on the cutting list generated as per the approved shop drawing.

will take place in line with the approved design calculations, material submittal, and shop
drawing

7.4. Steel Framing Installation

7.4.1. Drill the baseplate holes for the fixation of the steel sub-structures.
7.4.2. After hole locations are drilled, fix the steel hanger, and beam hollow sections on the
concrete soffit slabs and columns.
7.4.3. After installation of hangers and beams, the curved ceiling steel structures will be welded
into them as per approved shop drawing details. Refer to Figure 1

Figure 1
7.4.4. Install the reinforcement bars between glass blocks as per the layout indicated in the
approved shop drawing
7.4.5. Arrange the 3rd party laboratory to perform the pullout test and welding test
7.4.6. Apply the protective zinc coats to the exposed steel and welding joints to ensure the rust
proofing of the sub-structure

7.5.1. Install the formworks that will support the placement of glass blocks following the curved
shape of the ceiling
7.5.2. Ensure the formworks are clean, watertight aligned and properly supported.

7.6. Mockup
7.6.1. Prepare and agree with DAR for the glass block mockup at one portion of the works,
7.6.2. Obtain approval of the mock before proceeding to complete the entire system
7.6.3. The approved mockup shall be considered as part of the permanent works.

begins.

7.7. Placement of Glass-Blocks

7.7.1. Work on formwork surfaces following the curve as per the approved shop drawing.
7.7.2. Mark the outline of the grid that the blocks are to be installed according to the drawing.
7.7.3. Spread release agent on the formworks.
7.7.4. Arrange the glass blocks as per the approved shop drawing and secure the placement
with spacers.
7.7.5. Pour a few millimeters of very liquid plaster or cement into the spaces to prevent the
glass blocks from shifting when you pour in the next mortar.
7.7.6. Apply enough mortar to assure that the reinforcement rods you will be inserting will be at
least 20 mm from the surface of the formwork. Refer to the following images

7.7.7. Place the reinforcement at the joints, between the glass blocks and along the perimeter
with steel bars that are shorter than the sides of the panel itself (to prevent them from
coming out and oxidizing).
7.7.8. If the panel must be laid on the supporting structure with two sides only, first insert the
rods perpendicular to the support and then the others.
