ACTIVITY A. 20 points
Study the different literature genres presented in the graphic organizer. Look for the meaning of each
genre in the dictionary . Write the meaning opposite the name of the genre.
4. Informational Text: A non fiction writing that has the purpose of giving information on
a specific topic. It comprised of facts together with the text features such as graphs,
headings, glossaries and table of contents.
6. Traditional Fantasy: A literature that originated orally and doesn’t have an author. It
was designed to impart and reinforce cultural and societal norms. It is fantastic in
nature, involves magic and sometimes talking animals.
7. Modern Fantasy: It has a story elements that violate the natural, physical laws of our
known world. Some elements that are found in this genre are talking animals,
imaginary worlds, fanciful characters and magical beings.
8. Realistic Fiction: A genre that creates imaginary characters and situations that depict
our world and society. It also focuses on themes of growing up and confronting personal
and social problems. It portrays characters coming to understand themselves and
others.
9. Contemporary Realistic Fiction: The genre that is made up of stories that could happen
to real people in real settings. It usually happened in the same time period the reader is
living or in the present time and it contain characters who could potentially be real
people.
10. Historical Fiction: It comprise of narratives that takes place in the past and are
characterized by an imaginative reconstruction of historical events and personages. The
details and the action in the story can be mix of actual events and in the author’s
imagination.
11. Biography: A branch of literature that deals with accounts of people’s lives. It can be
about a person who is still alive, who lived centuries ago, someone who is famous
globally or a unique group of people.
