Words to Ponder
John 4:46-51 NIV
46Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into
wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at
Capernaum. 47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from
Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close
to death.
48“Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never
believe.”
49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”
The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51 While he was still on the way, his
servants met him with the news that his boy was living.
Pointers

In this passage, we can learn the kind of faith that works. It is not just faith that we utter
but rather something that is put into action, the kind of faith honored by the Lord.
šFaith that works is expressed through submission to
God’s word.
The royal official had his own plan already. But he was willing to change this plan
and submit to the way of the Lord instead.

šFaith that works is expressed in obedience despite

uncertainty.
The royal official took the word of the Lord and went home. The healing was not
yet certain for it was a long way off. This is the kind of faith that works. It is the
willingness to obey the Lord and to entrust the unknown future to Him.

šFaith, when put into practice, will certainly work to

make things happen.
Because the royal official took the word of the Lord, his child got healed while he
was still on his way home.
Dig Deep

šWhy do we find it hard to align our plans with the will

of the Lord?
šWhat promises of the Lord do you hold on to
regarding your future? Would you like to share these
with the group?
šDo you have a testimony regarding your faith being
honored by the Lord? Can you share this testimony
with us?
Life Application

šLet our faith work through submission to God’s word

even if this goes against our plans and our own will.
šLet our faith work through obedience regardless of
the uncertainties of the unknown future.
