Group - A: (5×10=50)
Q. N. 1 Parking space is one of the major problems of urban mobility especially in core area 4+3+3
of major cities. Develop some ideas to solve the parking problem. These ideas shall
incorporate the aspects of engineering, education and enforcement for soling this
issue.
OR
Design a street lighting system for the following conditions:- 7+3
 Street width = four lane road,
 Mounting height = assume suitable height,
 Lamp size = 6000 lumen,
 Average flux = 6,
 Coefficient of utilization = 0.40.
 Assume other data suitably if necessary.
Make a layout plan of one km straight four-lane road section.
Q. N. 2 Define vehicle damage factor for the design of pavement. Determine the cumulative 2+8
number of standard axles for the design of flexible pavement with two lane road. The
base year traffic count was found as 1500 commercial vehicle per day. Assume the
suitable single value for the growth rate for all types of vehicle in the traffic stream.
The construction period of this pavement was taken as the 1.5 years from the base
year and design life is 15 years.
Q. N. 3 Government has initiated the construction of Road Tunnels projects in Nepal. Briefly 5+5
explain the steps for the fixing of tunnel alignment on the ground. Describe the
characteristics of suitable sites (along road alignment) for the construction of Tunnel
in Nepal.
Q. N. 4 Write an essay on the role of green road construction technology for the sustainable 10
development of rural areas in Nepal.
Q. N. 5 You are supposed to lead the technical team for the maintenance roads in an Urban 5+5
area. List out the schedule of activities (types of works to be done) to be conducted
during the coming Fiscal Year. How do you set the priority for the maintenance works
in an urban area?

Q. N. 6 Quality of works for the construction of bituminous pavement is always difficult task 20
for an engineer. Make a list of duties for ensuring the quality during the construction
by the Engineers on behalf of Consultant (supervision), Contractor (site supervision)
and Client (for the acceptance of work performed)
