Answers to Critical Thinking Questions – Module 03

Student answers could vary from those presented in this document.

Apply Your Knowledge – Assignment Instruction

15. Answer the questions posed in #4, #5, #9, and #10. Where did you insert the second footnote and
why?

Apply Your Knowledge – Possible Answers

15. Students could answer several options: position the insertion point in the table and then click the
‘Insert Rows Above’ or ‘Insert Rows Below’ button (Table Tools Layout tab | Rows & Columns group); or
right-click row, point to Insert on shortcut menu, and then click ‘Insert Rows Above’ or ‘Insert Rows
Below’; or point to the left of the table and then click the Insert Control.

Extend Your Knowledge – Assignment Instruction

14. Answer the questions posed in #5, #6, and #7. Why would you group objects? Which picture bullet
did you use and why?

Extend Your Knowledge – Possible Answer

14.
#5 – Formula is =SUM(ABOVE); number format is $#,##0.00; ($#,##0).00.
#6 – Formula is =SUM(LEFT); total for quarter is $4,072.00.
#7 – Header Row – formats first row of table; Total Row – formats last row of table; Banded Rows –
alternates colors on each row; First Column – formats first column of table; Last Column – formats last
column of table; Banded Columns – alternates colors on each column.
Grouping objects is advantageous if you want to move objects together or format them together as a
group.
Students should select a picture bullet that goes with the theme of the document. The same document
used the world in hand graphic from the letterhead.

Expand Your Knowledge – Assignment Instruction

7. What is Google Drive? What is Google Docs? Answer the question posed in #4. Do you prefer using
Google Docs or Word? Why?

Expand Your Knowledge – Possible Answer

7. Google Drive is an online storage service. Google Docs is an office productivity web app that enables
you to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online, and share them with others. You can
upload and convert Word documents, edit them, and then download and convert them back to a Word
format.

The differences between the Word document and the uploaded document that displayed in Google
Docs were that the Google Docs did not support the shape created in Word, the flipped graphics, the
picture borders, the bottom border, nor all the table features.

Student answers to their preference will differ. They should support their response with reasons.

Lab 1 – Assignment Instruction

5. The letter in this assignment uses the modified block letter style. If you wanted to use the modified
semi-block letter style, what changes would you make to this letter?

Lab 1 – Possible Answer

5. To convert the letter to modified semi-block letter style, you would indent the first line of each
paragraph in the body of the letter one-half to one inch from the left margin.

Lab 2 – Assignment Instruction

5. What is the purpose of the nonbreaking hyphens in this letter? Why do you think the picture in this
letter used a text wrapping of In Front of Text? If the table used banded columns instead of banded
rows, how would its appearance change?

Lab 2 – Possible Answer

5. The nonbreaking hyphens prevented the phone number from breaking at the end of the line, so that
it displayed in its entirety on the next line.
By using the text wrapping option, In Front of Text, you can position the graphic on top of any object or
text in the document, such as in the banner in this letterhead.

If the table used banded columns, it would have alternating colors on even and odd columns, instead of
on the rows.

Lab 3 – Consider This: Your Turn

See the Consider This: Your Turn Rubric Files for possible answers to their critical thinking questions.
