Literature Review: Exploring Abortion Experiences and Factors in Nepal

Abortion is a complex and multifaceted issue that intersects with social, cultural, legal, and
healthcare domains. The literature surrounding abortion in Nepal sheds light on various aspects,
ranging from women's experiences seeking abortion services to the legal framework and factors
influencing abortion decisions. This review aims to synthesize key findings from five selected
studies that provide valuable insights into the intricate landscape of abortion in Nepal.

1. Abortion Experiences and Provider Challenges


Shrestha DR et.al (2018)1conducted a mixed-methods study focusing on women's experiences
seeking abortion services in Nepal, while also addressing the challenges faced by healthcare
providers. This research underscores the significance of understanding the perspectives of both
service users and providers. By delving into the ground realities and obstacles encountered
within healthcare facilities, this study contributes to a comprehensive comprehension of the
abortion landscape.

2. Youth Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviors Towards Abortion


Navin Bhatt et.al(2021)2shed light on the younger demographic's knowledge, attitudes, and
behaviors concerning abortion following its legalization in Nepal. The research underscores the
importance of studying the youth's perception of the legal and social implications of abortion.
This exploration is vital in comprehending how changing laws impact the youth's reproductive
decisions and awareness.
