Short Quiz
Assessment Method
The term "assessment method" refers to performance criteria,
activities, and techniques that are used to evaluate students' knowledge
and competencies in relation to what they should have learned. One
evaluation method involves monitoring and rating students as they
engage in oral communication. To effectively evaluate whether your
students meet a subject's learning outcomes, you need to choose an
appropriate assessment method.
Different assessment methods allow you to assess different skills.
To choose an appropriate assessment method, you must
understand:

the subject's learning outcomes.

the skills and knowledge associated

with those learning outcomes.

which assessment methods will allow your

students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge.

Written
Response
Written response assessments require students to construct
an answer in response to a question or task rather than to
select the answer from a list. They include short-answer items
and extended written response items. Short-answer items
call for a very brief response having one or a limited range of
possible right answers. Extended written response items
require a response that is at least several sentences in length.
They generally have a greater number of possible correct
answers.

Extended
Response
An extended response item is an open-ended question that
begins with some type of prompt. These questions allow
students to write a response that arrives at a conclusion based
on their specific knowledge of the topic.

2.Performance
Assessment
Performance
Assessment
Performance assessment is assessment based on observation and
judgment. It has two parts: the task and the criteria for judging
quality. Students complete a task—give a demonstration or create a
product—and we evaluate it by judging the level of quality using a
rubric.

Target
Learning
Target
Learning targets are concrete goals that clearly describe what
students will learn and be able to do by the end of a class, unit,
project, or even a course. Learning targets can be used to help
students with their social and emotional growth as well as
academics.
Types of Learning Targets:

Knowledge Mastery Products/Performances

Reasoning Target Target
Skills Target Dispositions Target
Knowledge
Mastery
These targets ask students to know or understand
specific content related to a learning target.
Targets can either be to know outright or by
reference through memorization.
These targets are often stated using verbs such as
define, name, list, describe, and identify.
Reasoning
Target
Reasoning targets ask students to understand
concepts and content by explaining, putting in their
own words and interpreting.
Students may be asked to extend and refine their
reasoning and use that knowledge in a meaningful
way.
Skills Target
Skill targets are those that must be observed or
demonstrated in order to be assessed.
These targets lend themselves to performance
assessment.
Knowledge targets always underlie skills targets.
Reasoning targets might be involved.
Products/
Performances
These targets require students to create a product.
There is a difference between “tasks” and product
targets.
Tasks: activities students engage in while working
on knowledge, reasoning or skill targets
Products: are the focus of the lesson by which we
judge knowledge and reasoning
Dispositions
Target
These targets reflect student attitudes, beliefs, and feelings.
They represent valuable affective outcomes we hope
students attain as a result of their educational experiences.
These may be difficult to quantify .
May best be assessed through observation or conversation
with a rubric.

1. One-Way TOS - A one-way table is a frequency table
for a single categorical variable.
2. Two-Way TOS - the data entries in a two-way table
refer to two variables.
3. Three-Way TOS - the data entries in a three-way table
refer to three variables.

Steps on how to create
TOS
1. Determine the coverage of your Exam.
2. Determine your test objectives for each topic.
3. Determine the duration for each content area.
4. Polish your TOS.
Formulas:
Percentage of Hours:
Number of hours/Total number of hours *100

Number of Items:
Number of hours/Total number of items *100

Percentage Over Total Items:

Number of Items/Total number of items *100
Why do we need
Table of Specifications?
Can help students at all ability levels learn
better.
To ensure alignment between the items or
elements of an assessment and the content,
skills, or constructs that the assessment intends
to assess.
