The effects of student-working to academic progress as perceived by secondary

students

I. INTRODUCTION

This study is about The effects of student-working to academic progress as


perceived by secondary students.
Working while studying is having part-time jobs while studying to have extra
income. It has a big impact on the academic progress of students. This condition
has a possible positive and negative effect. The researchers gathered information
about this particular topic to help working students deal with this situation. This
study focuses on the effects of working while studying in junior high school and
senior high school. This research used a descriptive design to determine the
effects of working while studying.

II. METHODOLOGY

Research design
In facilitating the gathering of data, methods will be used depending on the
purpose and scope for which study was undertaken. The study will utilize
descriptive - quantitative approach through the use of The effects of student-
working to academic progress as perceived by secondary students.

Respondents of the study


The researchers will conduct a survey and the respondents will be Junior high and
senior high school students at East Central Integrated School. Only 123
respondents participated and counted in this study.

Research locale
This study will be conducted at East Central Integrated School where Junior high
and senior high school students will be given questionnaires using sample survey
and face-to-face questioning.

Research instrument
This was used as the main data-gathering instrument. The instrument to be
prepared focused on answering the statement of the problem.
The questionnaire contains of six (6) questions. The questionnaire included six
questions related to demographic profile of the respondents, awareness and
practices in the effects of student-working to academic progress as perceived by
secondary students.

Data gathering procedure


After establishing the validity reliability on how gather-data formulating questions
appropriate for the study and doing all necessary modification to the chosen
respondents. Thus, their corresponding answer to the questions are kept in
accordance with the agreement of the respondents and the researcher. The data
gathered was organized tabulated according to the results of the statistical
treatment done.

Statistical treatment of data


The data that the researcher gathers from the respondents who answered the
survey questions will be complied. Theses data will serve as answers to the
questions presented by the study. The result will be compared according to the
difference of the answers. The formula to be used to obtain the response
percentage of each questions.
Percentage = Number of Respondents / Total Number of Respondents x 123

IV. DISCUSSION

The sample represented 111 (89.40) % of Junior high school and 12 (10.60) % of
Senior high school students.

Results showed that most of Junior high school and senior high school are working
students (98.82) %, and those who do not agree that they are working students
(94.18) %, and working students are experiencing peer pressure (56.86) %, and
those who disagree that they experience peer pressure (39.60) %, and the
working students are breadwinner in their families (43.07) %, and those who do
not agree that they are a breadwinner in their family (48.17) %, and those working
students are orphans (16.67) %, and those who do not agree that they are an
orphan (73.05) %, and the working students have a financial problems (94.41) %,
and those who disagree that they have financial problems (35.48) %, and those
who have a problems in their family (84.30) %, and those who disagree that they
have family problems (83.35) %. (Table No. 2)
The study provides discussion about the level of students In Junior high and Senior
high school awareness, knowledge, and practices of the effects of student-working
to academic progress as perceived by secondary students. The knowledge and
practices of the students in Junior high and Senior high school were all at high
levels. For other students that are lack of awareness about the effects of student-
working to academic progress as perceived by secondary students is due to their
lack of discipline.
