Ohio Valley Regional Model Car Contest

Ray Eckerle’s AMT 1955 Chevy pickup has


been radically customized with a chopped top,
pancaked hood, and scratchbuilt rear quarters
from a 1950 Oldsmobile 98. Its Dodge grille
came from Modelhaus.

James Herald boasted he only spent a month on this rare Fisher Resin Tom Dill tries to build at least one classic car per year. For 2017 he
Porsche RSK F2, adding machined knobs to the dash before painting it chose a Lindberg 1935 Auburn Boattail Speedster. It looks great
in an iconic Tamiya silver. finished in a handsome black and silver automotive paint color scheme.

Pat Sluzas digs this Moebius Models 1953 Hudson Hornet Special built Once a “Dyno Don Nicholson” Pro Stock Ford Pinto, Jim Hill made this a
straight out of the box and finished in a Grasshopper Green Metallic custom Pinto delivery by adding a Chevy Vega wagon top and filling its
factory automotive paint. Bare-Metal foil was used for the trim. side windows. The wheel openings were flared and engine detailed too.

A love of old school street rods inspired Dale Bartley to build this Ed Powell adores neat classic cars, but says his next build won’t be box
Revell Ford Model A roadster. He hinged the trunk, added a photo- stock. Monogram’s stylish 1930 Packard 734 Speedster Phaeton is
etched grille and steering wheel, and wired the engine. The finish is painted with Tamiya Racing White and Testors Model Master Sunrise
sprayed on finger nail polish. Pearl Red.

Awed from seeing gassers at local car shows, Darren Pate built one in Darren Pate also shows this upgraded 1937 Chevy Modified that
scale with modified rear wheel wells and a House of Kolors orange over features aftermarket wheels from TJ’s Custom Casting and tires from
silver paint job. The unique wheels came from a Monogram “Li’l Coffin” Plastic Performance Products. The finish is a mix of several Tamiya
kit, and its side windows were made using 35mm film. colors and cleared with Shop-Line JC630 4.2.

This mighty Porsche 934/5 Turbo from Gunze
Sangyo was built by Chris Crawford. After cutting
out its grille and side vents, he installed screens
in their place. He also gave it a dazzling nail
polish finish.

Dave Lyon’s rat rod, based on a Revell kit, has a chopped top and he Don Strong built this Sidewinder Dragster to compete in a new slot car

Steve Gray wasn’t sure what he should do with a
NASCAR kit he won as a raffle prize. He got
creative and made a cool cut-away car to show
off its detail work. He said it was a challenge to
keep it all together with the body cut in half!

AMT’s “Wagon Rod” is an excellent kit, says Steve Gray. After seeing a Rockne Riddlebarger wanted to find out if it was possibleto chop the

Matt Willoughby’s Hemi V8-powered Ford rat rod took

Terry Doggett thought it would be wild to


build a custom 1959 Cadillac limo. He added
the custom roof from an AMT 1965 Lincoln,
and modified the tailfins before finishing it
with a perfect Tamiya maroon.

Combine a ’49 Mercury and a ‘05 Ford Thunderbird and you get this hot John White spent a few months building his 1957 Ford gasser. The

Revell’s Mooneyes dragster is a tough kit to build according to
John Collett, but you’d never guess that from seeing his
stunning final product. John added complete wiring and made
the front axle steerable. The color is Krylon Sun Yellow.

Tim Brown said this Revell Jeep was a fun kit and he was happy with the Ted Lear loves art deco rides. His ’41 Lincoln Zephyr started with a
results he got from such a basic build. He spent a weekend creating the Jimmy Flintstone resin body. Ted shortened its roof and extended the
4x4, adding a roll bar, extra taillight, and a spare tire. fenders before painted it with Sally Hanson nail polish.

stole body parts from a 1977 Chevy van, and the chassis and drivetrain Twin, a kit favorite of Scale Auto’s. The completed cycle was easily one

Maxime Poisson made this Honda Civic hatchback using various Subtle, clean, aggressive, classy. This nice 1969 Chevy Nova by Dave
aftermarket parts and a finish of Tamiya paint. Notice the wide, riveted Morin features aftermarket wheels and a variety of kit-bashed parts,
rear fender flares? Nice work! along with some that are scratchbuilt.

Sylvain Lessard says the Funny Car was a challenging project, Louis Labelle is known to open everything on his models. Case in point
especially when it came to piecing together the frame, but he’s with his 1975 Dodge Dart Sport from MPC, which has an opened trunk

Frederic Langevin got this original 1968 JoHan in a trade he made, then Sebastien Ferguson built this Tamiya Acura NSX but changed it up by
completely restored and painted it with Tamiya colors, and slapped on ripping its roof off! The 1:1 isn’t sold as a convertible so he changed its
decals from Billy Gooche. He also fully wired the engine and tinted the top, added aftermarket wheels, and a lower body kit before finishing it
glass using Tamiya Clear Blue. with Tamiya paints.

This Loctite racing Nissan R34 Skyline was built out of the box by Kevin Bruno Roger took his Chevy S-10 and swapped its stock V6 for the
Cusson and he finished it with Tamiya paint and an automotive clear muscular LS1 5.7-liter V8 out of a Corvette. Next, he added a few resin
coat. bits, plumbed it all, and finished the truck with Tamiya paints.

Michel Rioux is a truck builder and presented us this 1955 Peterbilt Remember the TV show Squad 51 ? Claude Dauphin built this replica of
Wrecker made possible using a wrecker kit from AMT and a Peterbilt one of its hero fire trucks. He used the cab parts from a Dodge “Little
resin conversion kit. A lot of the big rig’s details are scratchbuilt! Red Express” kit and scratchbuilt the rest. This thing is hot!

Curt Raitz took Minicraft’s 1931 Ford Model A Roadster and made
it into a sandy “The Race of Gentleman” entrant. He shaved the
fenders off, removed the headlamps and added a 3-D printed
flathead V8 with a S.Co.T blower. It’s finished flat black with
Rustall weathering.

Greg Plummer’s Hasegawa Jaguar XJS seems
somewhat of a sleeper. He deleted the
bumpers, added a race-ready interior,
intercooler, and custom wheels. Plummer, an
actual Jaguar mechanic, finished his model in
a mix of Testors Olive Drab and aluminum.

Another Hudson bringing buzz to the show was Brad Diemer’s Moebius Keith Brumbley’s Ferrari 550 Maranello came from a Fujimi kit and has
Models 1950 Hornet. He wired and plumbed it, added poseable front aftermarket wheels and tires, tinted windows, a lowered ride height,

Doug Rutherford built a 1949 Mercury from an AMT kit along with an
accompanying scratchbuilt trailer. The Merc has the roof from a ’58
Impala, headlights from a ’58 Cadillac and homemade Buick side
trim. The flathead V8 comes from a ’50 Ford and it’s finished in PPG
Plasma Yellow and silver, with a PPG basecoat clear.

AMT’s 1963 Chevrolet Corvette convertible was built by Gary Dycke and Rico Firmino impressed us with his build of Revell’s 2006 Audi R8. He
finished in a perfect red enamel. added scratchbuilt seat belts and added aftermarket photo-etched
Audi logos, before finishing it in Dupli-Color red.

Rico Firmino also created this Funny Car using AMT’s 1/25 scale 1967 Ingrid Johansen’s AMT/Ertl “Mummy Machine” is quite the spooky and

converting Italeri’s ’33 Lincoln Town Car kit with scratchbuilding weathered with craft paint and hairspray. Look closely and you’ll see
thanks to Evergreen styrene strips and sheet stock. Then, he finished it skulls for its front headlights along with a personalized front vanity
with a custom mix of Tamiya Mica Red and Micro Blue. Its woodgrain plate!

We always enjoyed seeing builds from the late Del Paone, especially his rad Chevrolet SSR street machine.
He took a Revell kit and rebuilt 90% of its chassis and suspension, then swapped in a big-block 16-plug Hemi
V8. The finish is black gold galaxy metallic and lime green, with Slixx graphics and flames, and a Gas Monkey
decal out back.

Jay Savarese finished his new age muscle, AMT’s 2017 Chevrolet Bill Spencer converted a Revell 1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner into a ’59

JJ Provance saw a build like this on the Internet and that got his Robert Cucchiaro built a beast, Tamiya’s 1987 Ferrari F40. Its massive
wheels turning. Using Revell’s Mk1 VW Rabbit kit, he made this “Rusty engine is plumed and wired, and there are carbon fiber decals for the

Rick (Doc) Buikema of Clinton, Iowa, showed his rat rod based on AMT’s 1933 Willys panel truck. The body channeled, wheel wells filled,
and a resin rotor airplane engine added. Doc did plenty of scratchbuilding too and created headlights out of ballpoint pen tips. Lumber
riches led to Clinton having the highest per capita ratio of millionaires in the early 1900s, hence the rod’s name, “Lumber Baron.”

No denying the Aston Martin DBR9 is gorgeous, and Nick Amburgey of A Cox 1/25 Cheetah serves as the base for this restoration project by
